Development Workshop SeriesHOW TO APPLY FOR ASSISTANCE“PRELIMINARY SITE ASSESSMENT – THE PROCESS”

SUGGESTED STEPS FOR AGRICULTURAL POND

EVALUATION & APPROVAL TO BUILD

Note: This preliminary assessment does NOT constitute a formal soil or geologic investigation or a pond design, and should not be used for construction. The information on this form represents a preliminary site assessment to evaluate the feasibility of a potential pond site, and assist in determining the priority for engaging engineering services for a more thorough site investigation and design.

SUGGESTED STEPS FOR AGRICULTURAL POND

EVALUATION & APPROVAL TO BUILD

1. Contact NRCS/SWCD to complete Preliminary Site Assessment for New Ponds Review potential alternatives for agricultural water needs

Review potential regulatory requirements

Determine availability of technical and/or financial assistance

2. Secure preliminary pond layout (DLR Dam permit requirements)

3. USDA-FSA Farm Serial Number - initiate AD-1026 for Wetland Conservation (WC) certification; Confidentiality Agreement

4. No USDA-FSA Farm Serial Number, take Preliminary Site Assessment for New Ponds to Corps, DLR & DWQ for a preliminary assessment of regulatory requirements

5. Construct pond only after securing required permits and/or exemptions

JOHNSTON COUNTY SOILSBb—Bibb sandy loam, 0 to 2 percent slopes, frequently floodedBnA—Blanton sand, 0 to 3 percent slopesBoA—Bonneau sand, 0 to 3 percent slopesUcC—Uchee loamy coarse sand, 6 to 12 percent slopesWaB—Wagram loamy sand, 0 to 6 percent slopes
