    REGISTRATION INFORMATION

    Mail-in Registration:

    Begins Monday, April 12 (postmarked). NO DROP-OFF REGISTRATION FORMS WILL BE ACCEPTED.Envelopes postmarked prior to April 12 will be returned unopened.

    Phone-in and Walk-in Registration:Begins Monday, May 17. Visa or Mastercard required for phone-in registration. Please call (626) 384-5340.

    Registration only accepted until 5:45 pm on the Thursday prior to session start date.

    Registration LocationCovina Parks & Recreation Department, 1250 N. Hollenbeck Avenue (Between Covina Boulevard and Arrow Highway).

    Office hours for phone-in/walk-in registration are Monday-Thursday and alternate Fridays, 10 am-5:45 pm,Open Fridays: 4/23, 5/7, 5/21, 6/4, 6/18, 7/2, 7/16, 7/30, 8/13 OfficeClosed: 5/31, 7/5Important Information If you register by mail or by phone, a receipt will be mailed or emailed to you. If a class is full, you will be contacted with alternate choices. Transfers or credits MUST be requested by 5:45 pm on the Thursday prior to session start date. NO REFUNDS will be issued for swim lessons. A $25 service fee will be charged for all returned checks (stopped payment, NSF, or closed account). No refunds, credits or make-up classes for classes canceled due to fecal accidents or inclement weather. All registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. No spaces will be held without full payment.

    Classes with low enrollment may be canceled.

    Mandatory Swim Assessments

    DO NOT attend in-water assessment if registering for Private, Semi-Private, Adult, Teen, and Parent/Childclasses. Assessments for 3-year-olds is optional. If you feel that your 3-year-old is higher than a level 1, youshould attend a Swim Assessment on one of the above dates.

    Participants may register prior to attending a swim assessment. Participants must attend a swim assessment prior to their first swim session. If a swim assessment is not attended, participants will be transferred to another session or receive a

    credit. NO swim assessments will be given the first day of session.

    AQUATIC CENTER RULES Swimsuits are the only acceptable attire for all patrons

    T-shirts will be allowed as cover-ups only in the smallpool. Cut-offs and any attire with buckles, rivets orany metal attachments are not allowed. Sports brasmay be worn as a swimsuit top. Appropriately fittedrash guards are allowed in both pools.

    Parents who do not want to swim and do not have a

    swimsuit but wish to watch their children (7 years andolder), must sit in the designated viewing area adjacento the pools.

    All children age 2 and under and those not fully pottytrained, must wear disposable swim pants, such asHuggies Little Swimmers.

    During Recreational Swim, children age 6 and undermust be accompanied by an adult in the water. Oneadult required for every two children.

    No flotation devices built into swimsuits, or otherflotation devices such as rafts, swim rings, etc. or toysare allowed in the pools.

    Cell phone use in locker rooms is prohibited. No alcohol or controlled substances are allowed in or

    around the Aquatic Center.

    A swim test must be taken prior to using the divingboards and/or swimming in the deep end.

    All persons entering the water must take a shower prioto entering the deck area.

    Persons having open blisters, cuts, etc. are advised notto use the pools.

    Spitting, spouting water, blowing the nose or otherwisdischarging bodily fluids in the pool is strictly prohib-ited.

    Running, boisterous or rough play or excessive noise iforbidden in the pool area, shower area, and dressingrooms.

    Swimming caps are not required, but are recommendefor swimmers with long hair.

    No food or glass containers are allowed on the pooldeck.

    No hairpins allowed in the pools. Hats are allowed inshallow areas only.

    Lockers are available for use. You must bring yourown personal lock. The City is not responsible for anyproperty lost or stolen from the Aquatic Center. Lockleft on locker overnight will be cut off.

    Any shoes and/or clothing are not allowed on the pooldecks and must be kept in lockers. Sandals or watershoes are acceptable.

    The City of Covina reserves the right to refuse admit-tance to or eject from the premises any person failing tcomply with any of the health and safety regulationslisted above.

    The Covina-Valley and the Charter Oak Unified School Districts do notsponsor the organization or activity represented in this document.

    Guardstart ProgramAges 12-15This program covers water safety and the duties and

    responsibilities of a lifeguard. This is not a lifeguardcertification course, but a preparatory course for futurelifeguards.

    Prerequisites: (1) Swim front crawl for 25 yardscontinuously while breathing to the front or side, (2)tread water for 1 minute, and (3) submerge and swima distance of 10-feet underwater. (Participants will betested at first class.)

    Session I (Beginner) June 28-July 2:Fee: $75/5-day (Fee includes instructional

    book, T-shirt, certificate, anddaily snack.)

    Registration Deadline: June 18

    Session II (Advanced) July 12-16:To sign up for Session II, participants must have beenenrolled in Session I. Session II participants will alsoassist lifeguards with drills and surveillance.

    Fee: $50/5-day (Fee includes certificate anddaily snack.)

    What is taught at each E.L.I.T.E. Swim School level? Level 1, Splashers - assisted front/back float - recover, blowing bubbles, gradual water adaptation, movement in water.

    Level 2, Floaters - unassisted front floats, glides, back floats, front kick and recover, rollovers.

    Level 3, Crawlers - crawl stroke arms, kick and breathing, introduction to back crawl stroke, underwater swimming.

    Level 4, Divers/Novice Swimmers - extended freestyle and backstroke, sitting, kneeling and standing dives, introduction to

    breaststroke.

    Level 5, Intermediate Swimmers - turns, tread water, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, survival float and stroke, intro to

    butterfly, breaststroke.

    Level 6, Advanced Swimmers - breaststroke swim; butterfly arms, kick and swim; bilateral breathing in freestyle swimming.

    Level 7, Skilled Swimmers - extended swimming and technique refinement in all strokes and turns.

    Seven-Up Swimmers - Students should be able to pass all 7 levels of the program. Students will increase swimming distanc

    and work on treading water, performing a stride jump, and using a diving brick.
