New PAYE penaltiesHM Revenue & Customs have introduced new penalties for late PAYEpayments made in the tax year started 6 April 2010. These penaltiesapply to pay-as-you-earn (PAYE) tax, Construction Industry Schemes (CIS)and student loan deductions.

The Finance Act of 2009 makes all employers liable to penalty charge ifthey are late making monthly or quarterly PAYE payments regardless oftheir size.

A business making one late payment in the year can avoid a penalty aslong as any outstanding amounts are paid within 6 months of the dead-line. A business making between 2 and 4 late payments will be chargedpenalties of up to 1% of the amounts outstanding. This penalty couldrise to 4% of outstanding amounts for persistent late payments, whichcould proof costly to any business.

Warning letters will be sent by HMRC to businesses who are late makingpayments within two weeks of the deadline. Letters may be sent if abusiness has no payments to make and have not notified HMRC, so it isimportant to inform them if this is going to be the case. It should also benoted that just because a warning letter has not been sent it does notmean that HMRC will not issue a penalty.

The deadline for payment of PAYE, CIS and student loan deductions arethe 19th of the month following the end of the end of the previousmonth.

Businesses should be careful and ensure that all payments are made ina timely manner preferably electronically to avoid costly penalties.

Makeup TreatmentsHello, I hope everyone has been enjoying the gorgeous weather! Thismonth I would like to share with you my passion for makeup. I love applying makeup as it brings out my creativity and I was extremelyhappy when I won the 'WSC Catwalk makeup competition 2010'.Makeup makes us feel gorgeous and you don't need to cake it on toenhance your features. All you need to know is how to apply it correctlyand what types of makeup work for you.The most important thing to get right is your foundation. If the colour isnot matched to your skin then you will notice it. Also choose a suitabletype of foundation to suit your skin type for example a dry skin wouldbenefit from a cream or mousse foundation. From this you can set yourfoundation and apply a blusher. Eye shadow colours complement yourfeatures and depending on the size and width of your eyes, differentcolours and shades will enhance and correct features. I offer a 'cleanse and makeup' treatment for just £15 for 45minutes andwill be able to give you valuable tips including how to change yourmake up from day to evening wear. A full consultation means you will beable to discuss the colours you prefer, what your skin type is and whatfeatures you wish to highlight.I am offering to accommodate for those of you who wish to have yourmakeup applied in the morning before your day starts, so you have afresh faced look. Early appointments are readily available so feel free tocontact me to find out more! Even if you would like a makeup lesson, wewill go through the full makeup routine and work on a few looks that youwill be able to complete.I also offer special occasion makeup and wedding makeup whichincludes a trial and consultation to make you feel great for your specialday. It only costs £50 and I do not need months of notice for theappointment either. If you have any other requests for additional treat-ments, a special price can be issued for the additional treatments. If you have any queries please feel free to contact me on the numberbelow and I will be able to help you.

Town 102

8

Town 102She can count celebs like Katy Perry, Mark Ronson andEllie Goulding amongst her fans - the latter havingmore than just a distant interest - and with the releaseof her first album in the UK, American singer-songwriter

LISSIE talks to Town 102 about cowboys, make-up, and 'Catching ATiger'. But first, California: known for its great weather and wall-to-wallsunshine - and now you're in the UK, with its grey skies and scatteredshowers... I can't imagine it's our weather that's appealed to comingover? You know, it's just worked out that my album's out here with a lot ofopportunity to tour and get my music out - and that's what brought meover initially... but it was nice last weekend! I was in Newcastle and I laidin the grass in the sunshine! I think that in California the sun starts to get abit old because it's sunny every day, and really hot - and sometimes Ijust wish it would rain and be gloomy, so I can be a little more reflective!

You're over here to promote your new album 'Catching A Tiger', andthe first single 'When I'm Alone' (which you can hear on The Beach) -I've seen you described as a country music singer... is that accurate? Not really - I did grow up with country music and I have a few songs thatI think have a bit of that 'old country' Americana folk spirit in it. I thinkthere's a bit of soul in my voice, a bit of edge, some country... there'seven bits where the rhythm of the lyrics I'm singing have a bit of a...[pauses to think] ...not a rap, but I did grow up listening to rap music aswell - I can't rap! [laughs] When I'm writing the phrasing of some of mylyrics, I don't really think are they country, or this or that.. I think it's reallyjust me telling my story. So... I don't know! I think people can just listen toit and think 'it sounds like Lissie'!

There's a bit of a stigma over here in Britain - if you say 'countrymusic', everyone thinks of cowboys line dancing... that's not you, is it?No, I'm not! In fact, yesterday I turned on the TV and there was this spe-cial on 'country queens', and the 'old country' music had a bit moredarkness to it at times, it was a lot more genuine than, say, current ormodern country, which just seems to be a bit cheesy, if I can be a bit

honest! I didn'treally grow up inthe south, I'mfrom the midwest- I grew up inIllinois, aboutthree hours westof Chicago. There's a lot ofcorn in Illinois, both AbrahamLincol and BarackObama werefrom Illionois or worked in Illionois, which I always think is kinda cool.

I've seen somewhere that you used to write poems and put them tomusic... does that still sort of apply to this release? The way I write has changed since I just put poems to music... now themelody kinda comes with the words at the same time. My songs on thisalbum deal with relationships, the disintegration, deterioration of a rela-tionship I was in, or maybe me reflecting on my path, my life, and myyearning to find my place and wanting to be a good person... there's asong called Cuckoo which is pretty much about how I was a misunder-stood and wild teenager and how I got through that, and it's just metelling some stories about some of the significant experiences I've had.

You've got a few famous fans, haven't you - included BRIT winner EllieGoulding who you performed with recently... how did that comeabout? It was really cool - I'd heard in an interview that she liked my music, andI ran into her on Jools Holland's show. We swapped numbers, and to cuta long story short, ended up singing with me at Great Escape inBrighton. Through that, we just sat down and started talking, and I waslike 'this girl's cool'! I needed a friend, being new in the country, andshe's such a nice, cool, chick... in addition to having sung together, I'mjust looking forward to becoming friends. We hung out in Bristol and sangkaraoke together and had quite a bit of fun...

Lissie

Chapman's Hairdressers &Barbers jump for Charity

The Chapman's Jump is in aid of the E.A.C.H (East Anglian Children'sHospice) Treehouse appeal. The Treehouse appeal is all about a newbuild in Ipswich that is estimated to cost a whopping £3700000. Theyare doing so well at raising the money and we hope to make a littleindentation on the amount needed. It's really satisfying to be raisingmoney for a local charity. We have just had an E.A.C.H shop open inStowmarket that is a fantastic little shop and is proving really popular.

Originally I suggested shaving our hair off which I thought was a fantasticidea but no...the guys would rather chuck themselves from an aircraft at15.000ft!!! Oh well, in for a penny……..

The Chapman's jump will see the four of us (Jodie Chapman, LisaJackaman, Patrick Wilden and Ben Chapman) jumping from 15,000ft.We have raised well over £1200 already and would love to attract moredonations. Our link is www.justgiving.com/jodie-chapman0

Swimming UpdateThe third round of the Suffolk Junior Summer League was held on homeground for Stowmarket, at mid Suffolk leisure centre and saw visitingclubs Deben, Lowestoft and Oulton Broads, Great Yarmouth and Becclesall competing for the final overall placings for this year's League.Harriet Smith kicked off for Stowmarket in the 100m IM and stated thepoints total gaining 3 points and a time of 1.23.84. Next was RuairidhPenman who swam a very good 100 IM for 5 points and a hint of hisform to come later in the competition. The swimmers continued to pro-duce good swims up to the half way point with Alex Harrison (50m Back41.03), Mikey Fisher (100m Fly 1.16.06 new PB), and Chloe Allen ( 50mBreast 47.47) all achieving good 2nd places and Ellena Skoulding (50mFree 31.40) gaining a 1st.

The relays, usually the mostexciting races of galas, didnot disappoint, and neitherdid the Stowmarket teams, all digging deep to pro-duce excellent results. TheGirls 2x10/2x11 4x50m freewas first up and the girls(Cally, Chloe, Libby, Holly)

achieved a strong 2nd place and 5 points. Next up was the boys2x10/2x11 4x50mfree (Ollie, Aidan, Alex, Rob) who repeated the girls per-formance and a useful 5 points for the team. The boys (Liam, Tom,Robert, Mikey) 12&13 medley gala saw a very exciting race. Onceagain a blistering breast stroke leg by Robert Lancaster pushedStowmarket into a commanding lead that was comfortably held byMikey to claim maximum 6 points. As in previous galas the second Stowmarket produced its finest results inthe second half with Rob Borrett (50m Fly 40.94), Ellena Skoulding (50mBack 35.01), Liam Kerry (50m Back 35.14), and Robert Lancaster (100mBreast 1.20.98) and Ruairidh Penman (100 Free 1.02.84) all winning theirraces for the maximum 6 points.Again the excitement of the relays did not abate. In particular the boys2x12/2x13 Free relay produced some excellent swimming from theteam (Tom, Calvin, Mikey Ruairidh). The freestyle relay was not so easywith Deben leading at the halfway point, but the two younger swimmersproducing really determined swimming and keeping Stowmarket incontention. Stowmarket applied the pressure over the next two legs andafter only 3 races since his excellent 100m free swim Ruairidh producedanother powerhouse swim to pass Deben and take the top spot. The final standings resulted in the Stowmarket boys taking first placeoverall. The girls placed third overall. The overall combined totals sawStowmarket take second place behind a very strong Lowestoft andOulton Broads team. This was a very good result from Stowmarket and shows the commit-ment that all the swimmers put in to the series. In the summer leagueevery point matters and all swimmers should be proud of their achieve-ments.

Judo Champion for StowmarketStowmarket Middle School

By theend of the day, Lucca Neroni had outclassed his opponents to win thegold medal and become the Suffolk Youth Games Judo Champion.Lewis Clarke fought very well and gained a silver medal in his category. Finally, Dale Miller, who fought valiantly in his group, gained a bronzemedal. Their coach, David Etchells-Butler, Head of Geography atStowmarket Middle School, stated that all three boys produced a highstandard of judo, deserved their medal success and were a credit tothe Judo Club.

Needham in the CupCompetitions!

For the coming season Needham enter the FA Cup atthe Preliminary Round on Saturday 28th August whenwe travel to Daventry Town. After the fantastic game at"Bloomfields" last season in the FA Vase we can expectanother hard fought game.If we are successful against Daventry the next round

will see us at home against Great Yarmouth, Norwich United orGodmanchester Rovers or AFC Kempston Rovers. For the first time ever Needham will be competing in the FA Trophyagainst teams from the higher levels of the Non League pyramid, so nolonger can we expect to get close to Wembley as we have done in theFA Vase. We start with a home fixture on Saturday 2nd October againstHitchin Town who were pipped by Bury Town to the Zamaretto title lastseason so another tough tie in prospect and if we win that anotherhome tie against Lowestoft Town awaits us. If the club is to enjoy thesame success in the FA Trophy as experienced in the FA Vase then theteam will have to be at the peak of its form and show the same level ofcommitment shown in our last game.
