From the Editor

Hello all, and welcome to your May edition ofthe Stowmarket and District Flyer.

As always a very busy month here, not helped bybringing the flyer print dates forward. You mayhave noticed that you're receiving this month'sedition about a week early and we hope to keepit this way. We were finding that the flyer wascrossing over 2 months making the "what's on"guide a little tricky to put together.

Im sitting here on Friday the 23rd writing to youfrom my office and the sun is shining, the weather is warm, and it's been like thisfor over a week now (are we finally seeing the start of a BBQ summer??!)

If you want to make the most of your garden this Summer, please visit 2 of thebest garden centres in Suffolk, their details are inside. Next month we will have afull feature on them. So, if you have any questions you would like answeredplease contact us and we will ask the experts and get back to you in nextmonth's edition.

All at the Flyer hope your May will be as good as April was. Keep smiling and I'llspeak to you next month.

Cash is King

No matter how much money your business earns or howmuch profit you make, if you don't get paid on time then yourbank account will soon be overdrawn. Being owed a smallfortune is of no help when your bills need paying today. So,what can you do to ensure that your customers pay you ontime?

Improve the way you invoice

Make sure that you invoice your customers as soon as possible. It's surprising how many small businesses wait untilthey need money before they send out their invoices.Thesooner your send your invoice the sooner you will receive yourmoney.

A couple of days after the invoice is sent give your customera friendly phone call to ensure that they received the invoiceand that they are aware of when the payment is due. There'snothing worse than chasing payment for an invoice 28 daysafter it's issued only to be told (truthfully or otherwise) that itwasn't received.

Dealing with bad payers and late payments

Make sure you are aware of all unpaid invoices and know assoon as they become overdue. User friendly bookkeepingprograms will warn you as soon as an invoice becomes overdue and provide template reminder letters. In generalthere are three letters of increasing severity - starting with afriendly reminder through to a formal Final Notice of Demand.

If you let your customers give you the run around you areunlikely to get paid from them on time in the future. Beassertive about collecting what's owed to you, after all it isyour money. Make notes of what is agreed and stick to it.

If you still don't get paid after sending reminder letters and thecustomer is avoiding paying what they owe without a validreason then don't ignore it, speak to a reputable debt collection agency.

Green & IndependentAs a small businessman and local Councillor I think the worldof our part of Suffolk. Stowmarket is a great place with its mar-kets, small businesses and excellent public services. Havingknown the town for 20 years it is clear that it is really going for-ward and becoming the heart of the County. A growing, self-confident and bustling town.

People are independent-minded wanting the best for theirfamilies, communities and environment. Electing a Green &Independent MP will make a huge difference for the peopleof Stowmarket: a fresh and independent voice at Westminsternot tied to party whips but serving you.

Party politics and the rip off behaviour of MPs has come closeto destroying our democracy and our very faith in politics hasbeen shattered. This parliament has been appalling, undigni-fied and all parties are to blame in this sorry saga. We needMPs elected outside of the party machines that can help re-build trust and faith in our democracy.

A vote for me is a vote for the NHS, for our schools and uni-versities and for higher state pensions, for jobs and training foryoung people and standing up for our market towns and ruralareas. I believe in fair taxes with those with the most payingmore and proper Living Wage. I want us to curb excessivebank bonuses and top executive public sector pay.

I do not want to see a European super state, and I’m againstthe introduction of the Euro. I want to see power reside whereit belongs - at the local levels, with your Town Council, MidSuffolk District Council and Suffolk County Council.

I would speak up for what makes Suffolk special: its country-side, heritage and small businesses. I am passionate aboutindividual liberty, encouraging creativity and innovation.People know that we take climate change very seriously, withan economy working with nature rather than against it.Together let's make Suffolk into Britain's 'Green Heartland'.

I know from speaking to many voters during this campaignthat they feel let down - even betrayed - by MPs, denied avoice. I will, if elected, provide the people of Stowmarket withthat green and independent voice in Parliament; and a trulyfresh start.

With your support we can find new ways to make Stowmarket, our Suffolk, and great country, an even better place to live. Mark Ereira-Guyer - Green & Independentwww.greenandindependent.co.uk

a generous dash of K'Naan's vocals. It's a great springboardfor the multi-award winning rapper, showcasing his vocal skillsto a whole new audience, and for the apprehensive rockfans amongst us: it doesn't take anything away from Keane'sside of things. It's a coming-together of two huge names fromtheir respective arenas, gelled by beautiful beats andmelodies - it really does work.

Keane are coming to East Anglia this summer, performing asold-out show in the unique surroundings of Thetford Forest onThursday 10th June as part of the Forestry Commission's livemusic series.

East Sussex doesn't have that manyclaims to fame - apart from theSeven Sisters, the pier at Eastbourneand the A21 running out ofHastings, it's distinctly un-rock'n'roll.Of course, Keane changed all thatwith the release of album 'Hopesand Fears' in 2004 - and suddenly, everybody wanted a piece of theawesome threesome from Battleon the south coast.

Zip forward to the edge of summer2010 and it feels like Keane havebeen a little on the quiet side oflate. In fact, they've been touring

extensively - playing packed gigs from Russia to Colombia -and spending their days off writing and recording new material. The result is eight-track mini-album, 'Night Train' - out10th May - featuring new single 'Stop For A Minute'.

From the first few bars of this first single in over a year, it isabsolutely and unmistakably Keane - that piano, TomChaplin's vocals - but (and to misquote a certain retailer), thisisn't just Keane: this is Keane featuring the rapper K'Naan.

On paper, it's an unusual collaboration, but musically it's arather beautiful infusion of Tim Rice-Oxley's piano-tinkling with
