Progressive Rescue Solutions, Inc. (PRS, Inc.) was formed in 1993 by Jerrold (Jerry) B. Smith. Jerry was previously the Senior Instructor and Director of the CMC Rescue School. (See profile)

Having been involved in rescue for over 32 years and having taught rescue courses full time for the past 25 years, Jerry has seen the industry change, grow and advance.

PRS, Inc. was formed with our main goal being to offer a customized course, taught with the highest level of instruction, while still offering a lower cost to the participating agency and/or student.

Our courses are Progressive. We are constantly testing, up grading, learning from field experience and changing to meet the demands of the industry.

Our goal is to offer the student a solid foundation in Technical Rescue. We want our students to come away with a well-rounded background and the knowledge to perform confidently in various types of rope rescue, whether it is low angle, high angle, tower/antenna or confined space

By offering a variety of courses based on the experience level of the student, we are able to start with the basics and move to the advanced stages at a speed the students are most able to benefit from.

Finally, we pride ourselves in being a progressive company with old style values. We are in the business of teaching Rope Rescue; not in the business of Big Business. We care about the quality of instruction and service you receive and we’ll be there to help you with technical questions and problems that may come up down the road.

Vector lifeline

To function optimally in the field, a life safety rope must possess several important characteristics: good shape retention, handling, and knotability, as well as high abrasion resistance and strength.

A rope's elongation, energy absorption capabilities, and a stable bond between sheath and core are also important.

Making a rope with the best balance of all critical aspects is a fine art, one that has been fully realized in the development of Vector Lifeline.

A logical evolution

For over 3 generations, Petzl has conceived, designed, and manufactured the finest vertical equipment in the world. Because many of our metallic products are made specifically to interface with rope (ascenders, descenders, pulleys...), it was only natural that we would develop a rope designed for optimal functioning with hardware. With that in mind, we have engineered a high-performance lifeline that not only meets the required standards, but greatly exceeds those minimums in terms of strength, shape retention, handling characteristics, and consistent performance.

The ideal partner

When we first conceived of making a rope, the question foremost in our minds was: who has the knowledge and ability to help realize our vision of the ideal rope? We knew exactly what we wanted, but achieving it was a different matter altogether. After a thorough search, we found Samson Rope Technologies in Ferndale, Washington. Samson was founded in 1887 and since that time has concentrated on engineering high performance rope for every conceivable application. As with Petzl, quality and innovation are fundamental core values for Samson. With their comprehensive knowledge of modern rope materials, design, and production, Samson is the perfect partner to make our Vector rope line.

Fusion process = better performance

It is critical that rescue ropes maintain their "hand" diameter, and other physical properties while in use. Rope that is lumpy, too soft, or easily flattened cannot be relied upon for consistent performance. Vector Lifeline is manufactured using our proprietary Fusion Process™ to ensure a firm, yet supple hand, zero sheath slippage, and resistance to "ovalizing" or flattening of the rope. The process creates a secure bond between the sheath and the core while stabilizing the rope's physical properties. This means you get the same high performance time after time. Extensive drop testing using the BCCTR belay competency criteria* has shown that metallic devices and prusiks grab more reliably and produce shorter stopping distances with Vector

® Lifeline than with

any other rope tested.

* A 200 kg load is dropped 1 m onto 3 m of rope (Fall factor of 1/3). Max impact force = 15 kN, max stopping distance = 1 m.

Shape matters

You get the same high performance time after time.

The next time you pick up a rope, give it a good pinch and roll it around between your fingers. Does it feel mushy and flatten out, or does it maintain a firm, round shape? This first impression can tell us a lot about the quality of a rope, but testing reveals even more. Through hundreds of drop tests performed in the development of Vector Lifeline, one principle became very clear: a rope's shape is absolutely critical to its performance with prusiks and hardware. Testing definitively shows that flattened ropes yield erratic results.

In order for a rope to yield consistent results, it should have a round cross-section and resist flattening or ovalizing in use. A round rope means prusiks grab better and lowering devices give smoother, more controlled descents. Our precision design and manufacturing techniques ensure that each Vector lifeline comes to you with a round cross-section. Best of all, the proprietary Fusion Process helps it stay round throughout the life of the rope.

8 mm RESCUE CORD

Petzl Rescue Cord is the first cordage product conceived, designed, and tested specifically for high performance in rope rescue systems. In recent testing, the combination of Vector Lifeline and Rescue Cord consistently produced the shortest stopping distances we have ever recorded with the tandem prusik belay.

It works equally well on 11 and 12.5 mm ropes, and is ideal for making prusiks, load release devices, compact pulley systems, and anchor systems. Prusiks in rescue systems

PRG – PROGRESSIVE RESCUE GRAB

We have been using Ascenders as mechanical prusiks in rescue systems for over 20 years. We know PRG Ascenders to be 100% reliable as proven in the field and PRS Belay and Testing Seminar. PRS created the ultimate rescue ascender. Exclusively available from PRS, the PRG is available in red (main line) and blue (belay line). Color-coding simplifies setting up rescue systems. We shortened the spring so the cam won't go into the shell backwards. We have etched a large arrow on the spine pointing to the load. Our new and improved the shell allows the placement of the pin easier. With our standard thumb cam, the PRG is the ultimate mechanical prusik.

Petzl Rescucender

Intended for moving on fixed ropes (as a back-up belay), for hauling heavy loads, and as a progress capture device in hauling systems.

Petzl Handled Rope Ascenders

Handle with ergonomic grip for comfort and thermal insulation. Trigger cam with teeth and cleaning slot: works even on dirty or icy ropes. Ergonomic spring-loaded catch is easy to use even when wearing gloves. Spring-loaded catch can be locked in the open position so the rope clamp can be put on or taken off the rope with one hand. Two holes on the bottom: one to connect a lanyard and one for installing a foot loop with a quick link. Petzl I'D®

Self-braking descender belay device with anti-panic

function

For descending a rope and for belaying, with an anti-panic function.

Originally designed as a personal escape device for firefighters in bailout situations, this ultralight and compact descender is now the personal choice of countless members of SAR and Ski Patrol teams, law enforcement and military around the globe. Its compact size and lightweight makes it convenient to pack in a turnout coat or bail-out kit. For that matter just ask the growing number of savvy canyoneers who have chosen it as their descender, knowing that it is optimized for the smaller diameter ropes they've helped become so popular.

By using extensive computer analysis and field testing to optimize geometry we've designed this descender so that it works extremely well on single and double ropes up to 7.5 mm, and yet can be used on single ropes up to 12.5 mm. Single or double wrap allows the right amount of friction needed for a fast, yet controlled descent. The ears help to prevent girth hitch. CNC machined from 3/8'' thick aircraft aluminum. Petzl STOP

Self-braking descender for single rope

Self-braking system operates when the handle is released. The rate of descent is controlled by varying the grip on the free end

of the rope. Rope climbing is possible without changing the position of the STOP

by adding a foot loop and a handled rope clamp / grab. Spring clip allows the rope to be inserted without removing the

1- 2- DoubleBack and FAST buckles: quick to put on and adjust

All Petzl harnesses have adjustable shoulder straps,

waist belts and leg loops. All adjustment buckles use the

DoubleBack self-locking system. With this system, the

webbing does not need to be rethreaded to secure the

buckles - they can be adjusted with a single motion.

Certain harnesses are equipped with the FAST automatic

buckles on the leg loops. Once adjusted, these buckles

easily and quickly open and close - the harness can be

put on without undoing all the buckles.

3- Lightweight and comfortable

Petzl harnesses are particularly lightweight - now

wearing a harness is no longer a constraint. Work

positioning harnesses are made with perforated foam for

breathability.

The foam-padded shoulder straps offer improved

comfort and curve around the neck to reduce friction

points. The harness is also easier to put on.

Thermo-molded waist belt support at lumbar region for

Energlo™, this drysuit is the whole package.

Energlo arms help ensure you'll be seen even in little or no light conditions. Energlo is a revolutionary fabric that is waterproof, breathable and highly abrasion resistant. This fabric will never lose its ability to glow-in-the-dark and will glow brightly for up to three hours after being exposed to light.

Designed specifically for our hardworking rescue customers, the 400-denier TriTon fabric will hold up to years of abuse.

Super tough Cordura® exterior material reinforces seat, elbows and knees for rugged protection in high-wear areas.

Neoprene padding in the elbows and knees provide extra protection while working in the field.

A liquid neoprene coating on the latex wrist and neck gaskets provide the ultimate protection from UV rays.

Attached latex socks provide an extremely dry suit.

With the help of the internal suspenders, you can comfortably wear the top of the suit down around your waist while away from the water.

A self-draining thigh pocket and a splash proof arm pocket keep all the essentials close at hand.

Heavy-duty YKK® waterproof men's relief zipper lets you answer nature's call without having to take the whole suit off.

Heavy-duty YKK waterproof entry zipper seals out water.

Neoprene outer cuffs with adjustable hook-and-loop closures on the neck, wrist and ankles protect the latex gaskets.
