Carpenter's Shelter Annual Report 2011

TRANSCRIPT

A LETTERTHANKS

Dear Friends,

We are pleased to share this prospectus with you. It not only outlines our successes of 2011, but looks ahead to the future of Carpenter’s Shelter. We are extremely proud of what we have accomplished, but even more excited to see what the future holds.

Everyone involved with Carpenter’s Shelter: staff, volunteers, partners and donors, shares a common spirit of compassion Everyone involved with Carpenter’s Shelter: staff, volunteers, partners and donors, shares a common spirit of compassion for those less fortunate. We provide shelter, but Carpenter’s Shelter is “more than just a roof.” Over the past 23 years, we have expanded our program and educational workshops to support our clients. Though it is our hope that everyone who steps through our doors never returns to homelessness. This year we amended our mission statement in order to better align with the educational programming offered to our clients. As Carpenter’s expands, so does the reach of our continuum of care.

This prospectus shows how Carpenter’s Shelter’s new mission statement aligns with our programming. Our mission This prospectus shows how Carpenter’s Shelter’s new mission statement aligns with our programming. Our mission provides a clear direction for the future of Carpenter’s Shelter and better explains how we plan to break the cycle of poverty.

Without generous donors such as yourself, Carpenter’s Shelter would not be able to continue the great work that it does. Your time, money and compassion allows us to keep moving forward. Thank you for your continued support.

Warmly,

Lissette S. Bishins Matt SheldonExecutive Director Chairman of the Board

GUIDANCE

“I am NOT judged.

90% OF OUR AFTERCARE CLIENTS DO NOT RETURN TO HOMELESSNESS. But what about the other 10%? Each of our clients face different barriers to success and, for Jane, like many others, SUBSTANCE ABUSE played a key role in her return to homelessness. As a two-time resident, Jane struggled to remain clean and sober; she homelessness. As a two-time resident, Jane struggled to remain clean and sober; she also struggled to maintain custody of her children. Its been 9 YEARS since Jane began her relationship with Carpenter’s. We’ve supported her through the good times and the bad. In March of 2010 we piloted a new MENTORING program entitled, MY YEAR OF ACTION (MYA), in partnership with the GEORGETOWN LEADERSHIP COACHING PROGRAM. Jane was chosen to be ONE OF FIVE participants, but those who knew Jane questioned whether she was emotionally ready to participate.

Contrary to what everyone predicted, Contrary to what everyone predicted, JANE FLOURISHED as a participant in the MYA program. Paired with a PERSONAL LIFE COACH, Jane learned the importance of looking inward for more effective ways to approach the difficulties in her life. Since joining theprogram, Jane’s demeanor has made a 180-DEGREE turn for the better. She has re-gained custody of her children and now sees the value of BELIEVING IN HERSELF. Jane has a long road ahead of her, but with a NEW OUTLOOK on life, Jane is ready and able to take on the difficulties that life throws her way.
