FOREWORD

The aim of the Annual Report is to enable the Club Committee to report to members, sponsors and other key stakeholders on the performance of the Club over the 2011 football and netball season.

2011 has been another busy year for the Club. It is a key aim of the Club Committee to improve the management of specific areas where there is an opportunity to do so, and manage all other Club operations to at least the standard of prior seasons.

The future of the Club is dependent upon maintaining strong links with our community and offering recreation and leisure opportunities to all members of the Yinnar & district community. It is hoped that this Annual Report demonstrates that the Club is committed to these objectives and all that desire to be involved with the Club are able to participate in some way.

Every endeavour has been made to ensure the historical and statistical accuracy of this report. Should any reader be aware of an inaccuracy, or may assist with providing missing information, it would be greatly appreciated if the Club Secretary is informed.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT

From Dean Suares, Club President

I am pleased to present the Yinnar Football & Netball Club's 128th annual report to all life members, members, sponsors and supporters for season 2011 on behalf of myself and the Club committee.

A lot of early work went into season 2011 with the goal of having all or most sides both in Football and Netball competing in the finals series. Whilst it was disappointing from a senior 18 football perspective we still achieved most goals with our very young senior Netball sides playing off in finals in the under15's , 17's, D and A grade with the under 15's premiers and champions.

Our footballers had good finals representation with the under 12's and 14's participating in finals alongside our 3rds who finished 3rd and our Reserves who just missed out on a premiership finishing runners up with a very young side.

The Club once again provided an opportunity for all in Yinnar and District to participate in recreational pursuits within a family atmosphere with well in excess of 480 members. We again promoted heavily our successful Auskick, Netta and CINA programs and a big thank to all involved in running these programs.

A huge thank you to all our valued sponsors who have once again supported the Yinnar Football & Netball Club. Without your financial support clubs the size of ours would cease to exist.

Another huge thank you to all my past and present executive, and general committee and all other club volunteers. Without your tireless volunteer work our club would not remain viable as it is now and as this is my last annual report I again extend my appreciation to all involved for making my job so much easier.

Off the field we continued to trade well in our canteen, gate and bar revenue as well as outlaying expenditure • for improvements and repairs to our wonderful facilities.

I would like to congratulate all recipients awarded life membership this season - 3 players and 2 surprise well- earned volunteers, and to congratulate the recipient of the Best Club person award - all worthy recipients of these individual awards.

Yinnar Football & Netball Club continues to grow both on and off the field and I extend a thank you to all who have assisted me in my tenure as club president; a role I feel privileged to have held. I'm sure the club will taste more success in the near future as we are a proud club with a rich history.

The Yinnar Football & Netball Club hopes you have enjoyed season 2011 and we look forward to your continued support in season 2012.

• PAST PLAYERS GROUP

The Past Players committee held its inaugural meeting in 2011. A group led by Rod Couling and Shane Quigley are leading the way in retaining the support of our past football & netball players. During the season they have been active in running the booth bar on game day as well as the traditional wheelbarrow raffle. They have invited past players to join them on the deck during senior games. It has been great to see many of our former players returning to Yinnar. The Past Players committee intend to increase their support and presence in future seasons.

COMMITTEE OPERATION

OPERATING PLAN The aim of the Club Committee Operating Plan is provide a framework for Club operations for the season. It is not an exhaustive list of tasks that require completion by the Committee or Sub Committees, but a listing of approximately 60 key matters that need to be actioned if the Club is to be managed appropriately. Other tools that are used to support or compliment the Operating Plan include position descriptions, policies, procedures and operating guidelines.

STRATEGIES TO SUPPORT ACHIEVEMENT OF CLUB AIMS The Club has six key aims on which guide the Committee in its decision making throughout the season. As part of its planning process and as an input to the Annual Operating Plan, the Committee determined a number of strategies that supports achievement of the Club aims. These are as follows:

• The Club will ensure that it fields the highest number of football & netball teams at all levels to maximise participation.

• Entry level development programs such as Auskick and Netta will be conducted and supported to provide a non competitive pathway into junior and senior grades.

• Membership packages will be designed to cater for people of all ages to be Club members at lowest possible cost.

2 Promote, encourage and foster the games of Australian football and netball within our community.

• The Club will actively promote, publicise and encourage the achievements of our Club and players within the community.

• Development initiatives will be linked to those of parent organisation and development bodies to enable a consistent approach to furthering football and netball within the community.

3 Provide an enjoyable, comfortable, safe and rewarding environment for all people associated with the Club.

• The Club will operate 100% smoke free facilities. • Alcohol will be managed responsibly to ensure a family friendly Club environment. • A range of codes of conduct will assist in creating an appropriate Club environment and ensures

appropriate behaviours for all involved in the Club. • The Club will support, recognise and reward its volunteers.

4 To be a leader in football and netball management so that the long term success and stability of football and netball within the Yinnar community is assured.

• Initiatives to strengthen Club administration will be considered and implemented as part of the annual planning cycle.

• Where appropriate, the Club will be a partner in innovative programs available through government and parent bodies both on and off the field.

• The Cub will have in place a range of policies, and make operational decisions, that take into account its long term development, stability and success.

5 Ensure the development needs of football and netball are met on an ongoing basis so that future senior teams of the Club are 'generated from within'.

RECOGNISING OUR VOLUNTEERS

The Club is fortunate to have a number of people that willingly put up their hand to make sure what needs to be done week in week out through the season does in fact get done.

It is the aim of the Club Committee and Sub Committees to recruit, retain and recognise as many volunteers as possible to assist in operation of the Club so as to spread the workload and not place too great a load on any one person, hopefully leading to a longer term involvement from all participating.

Some of the ways that the Club recognises our volunteers are:

• Volunteer of the Week in both the MGFL Spectator and Club Newsletters • Invitations to the Club Annual Luncheon • Appreciation Certificates and Thank You cards • The annual Appreciation Function, held prior to the AGM

The Club participates in the AFL Volunteer Recognition Program, where our volunteers are recorded on the AFL database and their years of service to football and netball recognised.

CAPITAL WORKS, FACILITY & EQUIPMENT IMPROVEMENTS

The Club continued its commitment to the upgrade of facilities at the Yinnar Recreation Reserve in partnership with the Committee of Management and other user groups. This will ensure that quality facilities are provided for the benefit of players, members, supporters and the Yinnar community on an ongoing basis. In 1998, the Club established the Facilities & Equipment Improvement Fund to ensure that funds are set aside to provide for future upgrade works. Any operating profit made on an annual basis is put in to the fund, as well as any once off moneys received.

The Facilities Improvement Fund was used in 2011 to fund the following projects / purchases:

• Lighting upgrade on western oval • Replacement of Hot water service to kitchen • Office photocopier • Upgrading of hot water system to change rooms • Microwave oven • Flat screen television • Lighting maintenance at netball courts • Storage cupboards for netball rooms & club clothing • Installation of gates on public toilets • Past Players signage on deck bar

The Eastern Oval Pavilion project commenced construction mid year and is due for completion by the end of 2011. The facilities will provide new change rooms, storage, indoor area and additional public toilets for the Yinnar Recreation Reserve user groups. It will also house a new scoreboard that will service both grounds.

YINNAR RECREATION RESERVE

The Yinnar Recreation Reserve Committee of Management provides a high standard of facilities for all members, players and supporters to enjoy. The Committee of Management is seen as a progressive group that works to continually improve facilities for user groups and the community. The Club provides two delegates to the committee and is also assists with the maintenance, upkeep and management of the Reserve.

The Club acknowledges and appreciates the work of the Committee of Management and its volunteers , in undertaking the many tasks involved in maintaining the Reserve to such a high standard.

As part of its responsibility as a user group of the Yinnar Recreation Reserve, the club must undertake all cleaning and rubbish removal tasks. The Club acknowledges the efforts of the senior and reserve football players who were rostered in teams to complete post match change room cleaning, social room cleaning, and rubbish removal for the whole Reserve. The player's contribution, together with that of the club's volunteers is greatly appreciated by all who access this magnificent facility.

The Eastern Oval Pavilion due for completion late in 2011

FOOTBALL OPERATIONS

AUSKICK

From Matt Davis & Ryan Walsh, Auskick Coordinators

Yinnar Auskick hosted yet another successful season, with 37 children from Yinnar and the surrounding districts participating in the activities for 2011. The season ran over a 10 week period throughout the second term of school. This gave the children plenty of time to hone their skills and enjoy the games on offer, encouraging participation in this great sport of ours.

Mother Nature was certainly on our side this year. Although there were times during the year where the weather was not too kind, we managed to get through the season without cancelling any sessions. During the year Yinnar Auskick joined the ranks of the Yinnar Football and Netball Club on match day. This provided an opportunity for the kids to display the skills that they had learnt through our program with a grid match during the half time break of the senior game held between Yinnar and Morwell East. The grid games are much anticipated by the children and parents alike and provide a vital link between the Yinnar Football and Netball Club and the Auskick program. This link will no doubt provide dividends in future years.

A highlight for the season was when 12 lucky Auskickers were selected to participate in a half time grid match during an AFL game. The game was at Etihad Stadium, where the Bulldogs played the Blues. It was a fantastic match for the children to witness, giving them a taste for life in the big league. The five parent helpers certainly enjoyed their moment of glory on the ground. Those fortunate enough to step out onto Etihad were Tristan Waack, Mitchell Whitfield, Lachy DeBeer, Tige Renwick, Callum Hill, Ryan Turi, Riley Drummond, Julachai Gourley, Sam Walsh, Cade Wilson, Jamie Willis and Bradley Welsh. A big thankyou also goes to Victor De Beer for volunteering to drive the bus. A job well done by all.

During the year we received fantastic support from parents and helpers. As our Auskick sessions are held at 9 am on a Sunday morning, Jodie Davis and Kim Walsh came up with a simple idea to ease the strain on the parents and helpers. The girls were busy every Sunday morning cooking scones, slices and muffins and also preparing the coffee for everybody. This was appreciated by all. So, a big thank you to both Jodie and Kim for all their help during the year.

Thank you to the Yinnar Football and Netball Club for their continual support of Yinnar's Auskick program. Also, as a club we are very fortunate to have the use of the magnificent facilities on offer at the Yinnar Recreation Reserve which is one of the reasons we can conduct such a successful program in a small town.

Auskick participants for 2011 were:

Tyler Auteri, Cooper Auteri, Jacob Guce, Bradley Welsh, Jamie Willis, Will Xerri, Henry Bennett, Jakeob Webster, Stephen Dubber, Hendrix Whitfield, Michael Steadman, Jack Chessum, Julachai Gourley, Riley Drummond, Ryan Turi, Cade Wilson, Mitchell Whitfield, Nikiesha Bayley, Quillen Bayley, Darcy Davis, Lachlan De Beer, Zachary De Beer, Callum Hill, Thomas Hoghton, Tarmah Little, Hunter Little, Archie Mills, Mackenzie Rieniets, Tige Renwick, Tristen Waack, Sam Walsh, Elissa Walsh, Lucas McCulloch, Zac Schill, Corey Thorburn, Mitchell Berecheree, Tullio Delaney-Barbara.

CENTRAL GIPPSLAND JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE TEAMS

UNDER 10, UNDER 12 & UNDER 14

From Donna Lawless, Club CGJFL Committee President

It has been an interesting year. Again we were lucky enough to secure the services of 3 fantastic coaches - Michael Hall, Glenn Davey and Dale Hogarth. The weather played havoc with mornings ranging from cold, wet, frosty and foggy to glorious sunshine. We also had one of the wettest seasons I can remember with above average rainfall recorded and gumboots were the new fashion on the field.

Michael Hall coached the Under 10's in what must be one of the most challenging roles. To begin with a group of kids — some of whom have played one or maybe two seasons of football and some who have never played a game except for a half time stint with Auskick at a senior game (and there's nothing wrong with that) cannot be easy. However as the season progressed we witnessed a transformation from a group of kids who chased a ball around the field to a team who followed a game plan — learning that each of them had an important role to play as part of the team and that being in a team isn't just about winning. They did not disappoint and recorded some great wins during the season.

Under 12's had a great season. Coach Glen Davey had the difficult task of juggling players from week to week — made even more difficult when it came to finals time and having every listed player either on the field or the bench. This season saw players further develop their skills and with some great wins along the way they successfully finished in the top 5. Under 12's made it to the elimination final but were unfortunately defeated by Newborough Blues.

Under 14's had an amazing season helped along by an extremely organised and disciplined coach in Dale Hogarth. They had some great wins — some were absolute nail biters and had everybody on the edge of their seats. The under 14's were a fantastic team to watch. They talked to each other, read the play well and moved the ball through the field with great skill. Thoroughly earning their place in the finals they defeated Newborough Reds by 20 points in the Qualifying Final and were narrowly defeated by Mirboo Nth in the Semi Final. They went on to meet Newborough Blues in the Preliminary Final where they lost by a mere 7 points but not without displaying a courageous and determined spirit.

Congratulations must go to two of our players who polled extremely well in the Central Gippsland Junior Football League Best & Fairest. Aidan Quigley won the under 12's Best & Fairest, whilst Alex Lawson came runner up for the under 14's. Well done to both players on an outstanding season.

I have to say that this year it has been great to see good sportsmanship displayed by our Yinnar junior players. In victory and in defeat good sportsmanship has always been shown as well as respect for the umpires and their decisions and for your coaches. Well done to everyone for displaying excellent sportsmanship.

I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the running of junior football from our Coaches, Team Managers and Umpires to Line Markers, Jumper Washers and Cleaners. Thank you to Christine Hall for an outstanding job as Club Secretary and to Angela Bolding our Treasurer. I would especially like to thank Julie Monacella, Trish Hicks and Margaret O'Brien for the fantastic job that they do running our canteen. Unfortunately Julie is moving on from junior football and I thank her for her tireless effort and exceptional organizational skills that has enabled our canteen to run very successfully.

Thank you to everyone for a fantastic season. Yinnar Football & Netball Club is a great club to be a part of and there are great friends to be made along the way. It is a hugely rewarding experience being involved in the development of junior football for our children. After all junior footballers are the future success story of our senior club.

MID GIPPSLAND FOOTBALL LEAGUE TEAMS

SENIORS, RESERVES, UNDER 18 & UNDER 16

As mentioned in the president's report it would be fair to say it was a disappointing year for our senior team. We had high hopes of playing finals football after some heavy recruiting but fell short of making the finals. It was great to get some past players back into the side and they acquitted themselves well. We also had a number of under 18 players who had a taste of senior football and they will play many more. We hope to retain our list and eventually we will get the success we deserve with our blend of youth and experience. The senior side was again led by coach Guy Cheffers, and assistants, Mark Andrews, Nathan Scurrah and Sam Mills.

The Reserve side under Luke Bremner and Mick Harding was one of the youngest 2nds teams we had fielded for many years with many of them playing senior games throughout the year. They started strongly, faded a bit in the middle of the season and made a late charge coming through the elimination final all the way to the grand final playing some inspired and exciting football, unfortunately on the day they came up just short against an experienced opposition, a great effort from all involved.

The under 18's under new coach Mark Maynard also had a terrific year. Despite being short of players they finished the home and away 3rd and made it through to the Preliminary final only to be beaten by the eventual winners. Thanks must go to Mark for his efforts, and to all the players it was a great effort with some exceptional individual and team efforts. Acknowledgement should be given to all the under 16 players who doubled up each week providing support to the under 18 team.

The under 16's also had a new coach in Matt Whitelaw who acquitted himself well, in what is a difficult age group to coach. He had the respect of the players and whilst they may have won only 4 games they improved on results quite significantly in the 2nd half of the season. With a predominately lower age list playing their first season of 4ths football they are sure to have a very competitive season in 2012, a big thank you again to all who helped out. Season highlights included:

• Reserves runners up • Thirds finishing top 3 • Several under 16 and 18 players representing the club at MGFL interleague • 2 players finishing equal 2nd in the MGFL thirds best and fairest • Guy Cheffers 300 senior MGFL games • A high number of under 18 and young reserve players making their senior football debuts

As always we thank all our volunteers that assist in getting these sides out onto the field each week.

MID GIPPSLAND NETBALL LEAGUE TEAMS A GRADE, B GRADE, C GRADE, D GRADE, UNDER 17, UNDER 15

From Deidre Buckley, Club MGNA Committee President

This has been a very successful year for the Yinnar netballers. We have recruited some new players to the club and have been successful both on and off the court.

Our Under 15 team coached by Mal Swinley, and team manager Lisa Van Rooy were Premiers & Champions for the 2011 season. These girls played fantastic all year and were unbeaten all season. They played the grand final against Mirboo North and won. The girls have great depth and talent which showed through the season. This is great for the future of Yinnar netball. The Under 17's finished 5th and made it through to the 1st semi final losing against Mirboo North. Nicole Dalton, coach and Naomi Kearns, assistant coach have done a great job with these girls, teaching them new skills and they have come a long way through the season. Well done girls. D grade was coached by Tenielle Leahy. This was Tenielle's first year at coaching and she has done a great job with the girls. The girls reached the 1st semi final as well, but lost to Yallourn Yallourn North. A job well done. Stacey Whitelaw coached C grade, and although not reaching the finals, Stacey worked hard with her girls and they improved every week and were competitive throughout the season. Hannah Mills took on B grade. Hannah brought with her great experience and the girls did not let her down. They were also unsuccessful in making the finals but still improved extensively. Leanne Dalton coached A grade this year. These girls were amazing to watch. They made it to the elimination final but unfortunately lost to Mirboo North. Leanne brought to these girls so much knowledge and experience that it was unfortunate that they didn't go further.

I would like to give special congratulations to the following girls who were successful at the MGNA Vote Count: Meg Van Rooy - Under 15 Best & Fairest; Connie Aristidou - D grade Best & Fairest; Melissa Gunn - B Grade Runner up and Alison Tewierik- A grade Best & Fairest. This is a great effort from these girls, with Connie and Alison being new to the club this year, and Meg & Mel coming through from the junior rank. Well done girls. We also had juniors representing the club in the MGNA squad teams.

This is my first year as President and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the executive and the general netball committee. We have all worked together in trying to make the netball club successful this year, and with 4 teams out of 6 in the finals I feel we have succeeded. Special thanks to the girls for playing, training, working in the canteen, helping with teas or just cleaning up.

The club greatly appreciates the job JaneIle Deguara (umpire coordinator) has done this year and would also like to thank Mel & Catherine Gunn, Louise Quigley, Deb Tormey, Di Penney and JaneIle for umpiring. This is a thankless job and the club wouldn't be able to play without these ladies, so thank you.

I would like to take this opportunity also, to thank the coaches, parents, spectators, scorers and anyone else that helped on game days. Your participation on each day helped make the day run smoothly and the committee thank you.

We look forward to a successful year again in 2012.

CHURCHILL INDOOR NETBALL ASSOCIATION TEAMS UNDER 15/17, UNDER 13, UNDER 11, NETTA

From Alicia Barwick, Club CINA Coordinator

This year we had a fantastic season of netball. We had 70 registrations, a little more than last year, which shows a great interest and participation in our junior development of netball at Yinnar Football & Netball Club. Our teams consisted of Netta, 11 & Under (2), 13 & Under (3) and 15/17 & Under (2). I was pleased with our Netta players being able to participate in their own age group competition, with Churchill also entering a Netta team this season. It was great to see our young Netta's enjoy and develop in netball. A great effort by all of them, they should be very proud of themselves and their hard work this season. Yinnar was extremely well represented this year in the finals, with all teams securing a place! A fantastic effort by all. Yinnar Redvines (15/17 & Under) lost in the semi-final to Cougars by just 3 goals. All the girls worked very hard and should be pleased with their efforts. From this team we say goodbye to Naomi Matthyssen, Natalie Ling and Chloe Dawes who we hope will continue with netball in the higher age group teams. We wish them the very best and thank them for their many years playing for Yinnar. Yinnar Wild Ones (15/17 & Under) had a great season this year winning 9 out of 13 games. This dedicated group of girls fought very hard in the grand final, but lost by 1 goal to Cougars - a great effort by all. The grand final was certainly an 'edge of your seat' game and a fantastic netball game to watch. Yinnar Acids (13 & Under) showed great determination this season and played Yinnar Wildcats in the grand final - another 'edge of your seat' game, with Yinnar Wildcats winning the premiership by just 1 goal. A great effort by all, and a truly exciting game to watch. Yinnar Ultimate Dream Team (13 & Under) also showed great determination this season and went on to play Yinnar Wildcats in the semi-final, and lost by just 1 goal. All the girls worked very hard and should be very proud of their efforts this year. Yinnar Roxy Netballers (11 & Under) had a wonderful season winning 10 out of 13 games. They played Yinnar Skittles in the semi-final and lost by 1 goal. Both teams played extremely well, it was a game I could not even sit down for! To say it was a nail biter would be an understatement with both teams showing great determination to make it to the grand final. For such young players the level of skill in both teams made it a really great game to watch. Well done girls, I can see fantastic games of netball in the future from them as they develop their skills even further. Yinnar Skittles (11 & Under) fought very hard to get into the grand final and their training certainly paid off in the semi-final. They were up against a very hard team in the grand final, but worked really hard and lost by just 8 goals to The Gems. It is a wonderful thing our club has so many juniors coming through, and it would not be possible for all the girls to play without help from coaches, umpires, team managers and parents. I would like to thank our coaches for this year: Sam Ling, Thomas Libreri, Lisa Van Rooy, Kim Hogarth, Sue Hutchinson, Nicole Bugeja, Angela Martin and Mandy Nehls. Their time and effort has been an asset to the club and ensured our girls had fun learning and playing the game of netball. Special thanks also go to the wonderful people who were always there to help and who have assisted me throughout the season: Joanie Smith, Cathy Hutchinson and Jodie Davis. Their help was greatly appreciated and I thank them very much for their dedication to our girls. One person I would like to single out has continually shown support, kindness and dedication to the CINA Netball teams as well as the Yinnar Football & Netball Club in general. She was always helpful with any question, concern or idea and I believe without her contribution there would not be such a large number of girls competing. So to Deidre Buckley many thanks to you, you are a great asset to the Yinnar Football & Netball Club and I truly don't know how I would have got through the season without her support. A true friend and selfless volunteer - thank you dearly. Netball is a growing sport and Yinnar Football & Netball Club is pleased to have so many girls playing. It is a time for the girls to have fun and enjoy playing the game; we look forward to seeing them gain next year in 2012. Congratulations to all girls on a wonderful season.

CLUB THEME SONG

To the tune of Lily of Laguna (Carlton FC - we had it first!)

We are the black and whites

We are the good, old black and whites

We're the team that never lets them down

We're the only team from Yinnar town

With all the champions

They like to send up We'll keep our end up And they'll know that they've been playing

Against the good old black and whites.
