DESCRIPTION

The MIZY Center the seoul Youth Cultural Exchange Center The MIZY Center, currently operated by the Korean National Commission for UNESCO under the auspices of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, first opened its doors in May 2000. It is a specialized place for a diversity of cultures, a site of global exchange and understanding, and a forum where youth can share information. The MIZY Center provides a variety of cultural understanding and international exchange programs for the youth of the multicultural era in order to support their growth as global citizens. The MIZY Center also offers four meeting rooms and an internet cafe, which youth can use freely for their own meetings and leisure. These are programs that look to fi nd ways for youth from various cultural backgrounds to meet, understand, communicate, and work together towards a culture of peace. Art, music, world heritages, and other cultural activities aim to heighten cultural sensitivity and understanding between diff erent cultures.The Multicultural Education Programs also seek to help youth enhance their abilities and expertise through suitable activities and educational programs. Books, lectures, and classroom studies are not the only ways to achieve this; it can also be achieved through holding various meetings and educational experiences outside the traditional classroom, such as:

This project aims to research Sustainable Development and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) with Indian and Korean youth and young leaders in Seoul. The Forum aims to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries, India and Korea, and build a sustainable network.

Although Korea is rapidly becoming a multicultural society, there are insuf-ficient programs that measure and promote understanding of different cul-tures. Using the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), which measures sensitivity among different cultures, the program gauges the cultural sensi-tivity (intercultural understanding) of our youth and promotes multicultural advancement through discussion and participation.

Do we always have to go abroad to experience international exchanges? With the help of video-conferencing systems, we can meet youth in other countries and exchange ideas on various issues without overseas travel. This can be achieved especially in 2011 with 6 different conferences that will be held with various countries under the theme of “youth.”

The MIZY Center has been in partnership with the Japanese NPO (Non-Profit Organization) Pangaea since 2007 to create bonds among youths from all over the world through communication in virtual space, PangaeaNet with Pictons and webcam games.

The MIZY Center has a proud tradition of collaboration with other organizations, including foreign embassies, communities, international offi ces of universities, businesses, civil organizations, international NGOs, and other various organizations, along with domestic youth organizations on programs that focus on multicultural collaboration as a mutually benefi cial activity for all parties.The External Relations Programs train Korean youth and groom their talents for a globalized future. Associated with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, other international cities, domestic and international education organizations, and youth agencies, these programs address current international issues and help foster the basic attitudes of global citizens in youth:

MIZY Youth Reporters are active online in forms such as blogging, which is quite approachable for youth. Reporters study and write reports about different fields of international activities. The MIZY Youth Reporters program helps youth improve expressing their own ideas and feelings through researching and gathering information and writing reports on their interests.

By organizing research programs, we seek to help youths broaden their understanding of international societies and become global leaders with an international perspective and vision. These global leaders will eventually have the chance to venture out into the world and investigate global issues on their own.

This is a program for youth who are willing to take part in various international exchange programs. As program coordinators, youth participants take part in various activities such as case studies, market research, program planning, and final presentations. Through these activities, participants develop a final plan for their own international exchange program. There are 9 themes for the 2011 February Camp: Environment, Traveling, Design, Art & Performance, Media, Food, Welfare, History and Sports.

‘Shoes of Hope’ is a creative global donation program in which people paint images symbolizing world peace, friendship, and hope on shoes that will be distributed to youth in undeveloped countries. This program was founded by the Art Miles Mural Project (AMMP) which is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization recognized by UNESCO as an international program supporting ‘The Decade of Culture and Peace.’ Korea has delivered about 22,000 pairs of shoes, along with school supplies, to child soldiers in Uganda and children in poverty in Bangladesh, Cambodia and Nepal since 2007.

MIZY Center is...The MIZY Center, currently operated by the Korean National Com-mission for UNESCO under the auspices of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, fi rst opened its doors in May 2000. It is a specialized place for a diversity of cultures, a site of global exchange and under-standing, and a forum where youth can share information.

The MIZY Center provides a variety of cultural understanding and international exchange programs for the youth of the multicultural era in order to support their growth as global citizens.

The MIZY Center also off ers four meeting rooms and an internet cafe, which youth can use freely for their own meetings and leisure. More specifi c information about the MIZY Center’s programs and how to participate is available at MIZY Net (http://www.mizy.net)
