“ Soulpepper is the most consistently exciting theatre company in Canada. The Distillery District is the place to go.” — post city magazine

Leslie Lester, Executive Director

Having just completed an extremely ambitious spring season in which we ran eight plays simultaneously, it would be fair to assume that Soulpepper is slowing down for the summer. However, the opposite is true. Between now and Labour Day we will mount six productions—of which five are brand new to Soulpepper audiences— including Arthur Miller, Leo Tolstoy and Tennessee Williams, legendary French absurdist Eugène Ionesco, and Canada’s own Judith Thompson.

Joining these, for a limited return engagement, is our hugely popular remount of the Canadian classic Billy Bishop Goes to War, starring its original creators Eric Peterson and John Gray.

The acclaimed Soulpepper ensemble is currently hard at work bringing their accustomed rigour and brilliance to these great works of world literature.

We can’t wait to see you at the theatre this summer!

Yours, Albert Schultz, Artistic Director

The first great ‘memory play,’ Tennessee Williams’ earliest success centres on the domestic anguish of the fading Wingfield family as they await the arrival of a ‘Gentleman Caller’ to redeem Laura, a woman as fragile as the glass animal figurines she cherishes.

A distraught lawyer steps to the edge of Toronto’s Bloor Street bridge but is stopped by the words of a small white dog, who instructs him that his mental pain will be eased if he can save his dying father. This searing portrayal of domestic disharmony is one of the great Toronto plays. Soulpepper is thrilled to perform the work of one of Canada’s most celebrated writers.warning: mature content.

Two estranged brothers meet in a condemned house to sell their father’s possessions and discover that thoughtless actions, turbulent memories, and long-held regret have more of a price than any family heirlooms ever could. Arthur Miller’s engrossing drama examines the repercussions of the decisions we make and the price that every family pays.
