1 John

(29) The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!(30) This is he of whom I said, 'After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.'(31) I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel."(32) And John bore witness: "I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him.(33) I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.'(34) And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God."(35) The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples,(36) and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God!"(37) The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.JOHN 1:29-37

Behold, the Lamb of God

The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world The Passover lamb, Exodus 12:3-13. During Passover, Jews were supposed to kill a lamb (v.6).

The blood of the lamb was to be a sign for them (v.13) Now the blood of Christ is the sign of the New Covenant "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." (1 Cor. 11:25).

Gods Judgment of death was going to passover them when he saw the blood (v.13) The blood of Jesus now saves us from the judgment and death to come (Romans 5:9-10; 8:1; 1 Thess. 1:10; 5:9).

How does the Sacrifice work? The lamb of sacrifice Jesus died for our sins (Isaiah 53:6-7; 1 Cor. 5:7; 1 Peter 1:18-19)

Phillip explained this to the eunuch (Acts 8:31-35). The suffering servant of Isaiah 57 is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

Jesus takes away your sin (John 1:29). Its not magic; someone still has to pay the penalty of sin and take the punishment. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. (1 Peter 2:24)

What is your response?Phillip was evangelizing, telling others about this great truth. The eunuch wanted to be baptized right away!Johns disciples followed Jesus (John 1:37).

Do you recognize Jesus as the One that takes Sin away?

Do you tell others, like Phillip did, so that they can also believe?

Do you give up your life and go follow Jesus like the disciples did?
