Beallsville High Graduation Set for May 20 at 2 p.m.The Beallsville High School Class of
2012 cordially invites family and friends toshare in the excitement of commencementexercises on Sunday, May 20, at 2 p.m. inthe high school gymnasium. Addresseswill be presented by Matthew Burke,
Beallsville High School valedictorian;Jonathan Cunningham, Beallsville HighSchool salutatorian; and MatthewHelmick, Beallsville High/Swiss Hillsvaledictorian.
Matthew Burke is the son of J.D. andDebbie Burke of Beallsville. He is gradu-ating with honors and is a member of theNational Honor Society. Other honors andawards include Buckeye Boys State repre-sentative, HOBY delegate, RVFC Scholar
Athlete, OVAC Scholar Athlete, KiwanisScholar and has maintained over a 4.0GPA. Matthew is a member of theFellowship of Christian Athletes and thestudent council. He is a three-year letter-man in football and track and field, and atwo-year letterman in basketball. Matthewplans to attend college at Ohio UniversityEastern with intentions to transfer to OhioUniversity to pursue a bachelors degree inaccounting.
Jonathan Cunningham is the son of Luke
and Crystal Cunningham of Jerusalem. Heis graduating with honors and as a memberof the National Honor Society. Jonathan isalso a Scholar Athlete and an AcademicAchiever. He is a one-year letterman inbaseball and also a member of the trackand field team. Jonathan plans to attendWheeling Jesuit University to pursue adegree in nursing.
Matthew Helmick is the son of Larryand Debra Carr of Woodsfield and the late
Roland Helmick. Matthews many certifi-cations include Life Rank in Boy Scouts,member of FFA, certifications in first aidand CPR, in Community EmergencyResponse Team, lifeguard and OSHA. HisJunior ROTC awards include Drill Team,Recruiting Award, Civic Service,Longevity and Fidelity, Outstanding CadetAward, Distinguished Conduct Award,First and Second Recognition for PersonalFitness Test, Distinguished MilitaryTraining, and he also achieved the rank of
Cadet Staff Sergeant. Matthew lettered in
football and wrestling while living inDavenport, Iowa and also in football whileat Beallsville. He is leaving in June toattend the University of Northwestern inLima, with plans to study AgriculturalMechanics while serving in the ROTC. He
plans to pursue a bachelors degree in busi-ness, an associates degree in agriculturalmechanics and go on to become an officerin the Marines.
Also maintaining a 3.5 GPA and gradu-ating with honors are Bryant Arnold,Derek Burkhart, Hayley Campbell, TylerSpence and Aaron Thompson.
Bryant Arnold is the son of Tim and DebArnold of Beallsville. He is graduatingwith honors, merit and as president of the
National Honor Society. His honorsinclude being a PVC Academic Scholar,Regional Scholar, National Society ofHigh School Scholars and the McDonaldsScholar Athlete of the Year. Bryant isinvolved in the ski club, debate team,drama club, office worker, gym aide, year-book staff and has taken some collegecourses while in high school. He is also aMcDonalds crew trainer, captain and four-year letterman in football, a member of thetrack and field team, Student Council pres-
ident, Fellowship of Christian Athletespresident and has been the class presidentin grades seven through 12. Bryan hasplans to attend college to become a civilengineer.
Derek Burkhart is the son of Terry andEtta Burkhart of Jerusalem. Derek is grad-uating with honors, merit and as a memberof the National Honor Society. He hasmaintained first honors or principals listthroughout high school. Other honors
include being an OVAC Scholar Athlete,Americanism Test winner on the countyand district levels and a three-timeMonroeCounty Beacon Academic Achiever. Hisactivities include three years of track andfield, three years of lettering in football, amember of the Fellowship of ChristianAthletes, two years on the website staff,four years as a member of the debate team,two years as Student Council member, and
