This session will include an overview of Community Playthings’ design process, taking into account play value, risk and challenge, sustainability, durability, cost, etc., and a hands-on exploration of creating a loft.

Toni and Robin will also share many ideas for bringing natural materials into early childhood centre design.

Friday | June 29 continued Optional Tour: Hidden Treasures of San Francisco • Meet in front of the Administration Building Ken Jaffe, ICRI, United StatesKen Jaffe has lived in and around San Francisco since he was a boy; he is excited to share the secret jewels of San Francisco, places few tourists or locals ever see. Bus leaves from Clark Kerr at 4:00 pm and from Adventure Playground at 4:30 pm, or take an earlier bus (see Mud Day event on adjacent page) and enjoy Adventure Playground and Mud Day on your way. Tour ends at 9:00 pm, after dinner and drinks. Participants may return on the bus, arriving at Clark Kerr around 9:45 pm, or stay in The City and return on their own. Optional Tour to Columbia Child Center and Yosemite • Meet in front of the Administration BuildingPaul Roberts, PR&P Architects: Childplay, United StatesTour the Columbia College Family Studies and Child Care Center, near Sonora, then on to Yosemite National Park. Paul will share stories of the park’s history, influential figures such as John Muir and Ansel Adams, and his many encounters with bears!

Note: We have upgraded to an air-conditioned motor coach with restroom. We will spend several hours in Yosemite Valley, but are unable to visit the Mariposa Grove of big trees or Glacier Point. Meals not included in the fee. This long, scenic route has many curves in some areas. If you are subject to motion sickness, please be prepared.
