2 Jazz Education Network Conference Program 2012

JAZZ EDUCATION NETWORK WelcomeWelcome Everyone, to the 3rd Annual Jazz Education Network Conference! The JEN Board has chosen an exciting and fantastic city to host this year’s gathering, and the city of Louisville has

welcomed us with open arms. You will no doubt feel the vibrant energy within this grand community of art lovers as you venture out beyond the conference walls.

This year’s conference lineup of 100+ concerts and 90+ clinics is outstanding! We are delighted to announce that we have joined forces, in professional collaboration, to present the 2012 TI:ME Conference (Technology Institute for Music Educators), and the Jazz Arts Group of Columbus’ Jazz Arts Initiative. Both events will be offered concurrently, with TI:ME presenting a technology track that is cutting edge, and the JAI offering specialized research collected over the last 3 years, related to building and maintaining the jazz audience. Your JEN Registration Credentials provide you the opportunity to attend all activities hosted by any of the three groups!

The inaugural class of the LeJENds of Jazz Education will be honored at the 2012 Gala Education Fundraiser on Friday evening from 5:30pm-8pm in the Fountain Room. A limited supply of tickets remain for purchase at the Registration Counter. The $60 ticket price includes the LeJENds celebration and a southern style buffet dinner, an exclusive performance by the Jamey Aebersold Quartet, a silent and live auction component, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the JEN Education Fund.

Scan the barcode below, or at any of the posted locations throughout the conference, in order to upload the complete conference schedule app to your Smartphone! Here we are in Louisville, KY, where we are collectively…

Developing Tomorrow’s Jazz Audiences Today!Dr. Lou Fischer, President/Co-Founder,

Jazz Education Network

Welcome to the TI:ME National Music Technology Conference. TI:ME’s mission is to assist music educators in ap-plying technology to improve teaching and learning in music. It is a privilege to be partnering on our thirteenth annual conference with the Jazz Education Network.

TI:ME’s continuing commitment is to deliver the best music technology conference available anywhere. TI:ME brings together the nation’s most outstanding music technology educators with leading music software designers, MIDI and audio hardware manufacturers, education hardware manufacturers, and music technology merchants. TI:ME in-structors are experienced music educators who teach at all levels and are experienced music technology mentors. Not

only will the presenters demonstrate these technologies for you, they will help you to use it and to understand how to implement it effectively, whether you’re a teacher or a developing player. Virtually every music technol-ogy topic is covered, from notation to sequencing, the Internet, digital audio, multimedia, computer-assisted

instruction, electronic instruments and live performance incorporating technology. TI:ME’s partners are the corporations that create the music software and hardware that make a 21st Century music education possible. Together, we provide a comprehensive and quality resource for music educators throughout the world.

I want to remind you that your learning experience does not need to end when you leave the conference. In fact, the opportunities have just begun! One of the great things about TI:ME is that it is very inexpensive to become a member, which allows the training, networking, professional growth and problem solving to continue. The immediate benefits for new members far outweigh the small membership fee.

The JEN Outreach program started in St. Louis at the first JEN conference in 2010 and has been continued each year during the Annual Conference, to aid in fulfilling the JEN mission of advancing jazz education, promoting performance and developing new audiences. It was designed to assist in bringing quality jazz education/performances to schools and community

locations in the area, concurrent with the annual JEN conference. The board representative for this initiative, Mary Jo Papich, worked

with JEN’s selected 2012 local community Outreach Coordinator, Di-ane Downs, Director of the infamous Louisville Leopards, who brings familiarity with the area and schools.
