Each winter, South Florida trades white snowflakes for white sandy beaches, icicles for ice cold beverages and boots and gloves for flip-flops and baseball caps. For 41 years, winter has been infused with a tropical flare filled with lights, music and fun along the waterway. The Marriott Harbor Beach of Fort Lauderdale opened its doors to the exclusive Winterfest® kick-off celebration. The Winterfest® White Party is an invitation only event. Musical performances highlighted the Parade’s theme throughout the evening at this party for sponsors, media partners and select Winterfest® guests. Sixth Star Entertainment transformed the courtyard and Ocean Ballroom into a White Winter Wonderland. Models from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, signature bars from Absolut and Moët &  Chandon  and lounge area from Balmelli Creative. The aroma of the room captivated the audience with delicacies from Timpano, SAIA, Las Olas Wine  Cafe, Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, Fort Lauderdale Country Club, Sea Level, Anthony’s Runway 84, Elite Cake Creations and The International Culinary School at the Art Institute creating delights with Stubb’s, Florida Beef, Ciao Bella, Perrier and Malibu Rum.

Some highlights - Fort Lauderdale’s Mayor Jack Seiler and Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino president, Phil Madow, unveilled this year’s poster with Winterfest chairman Bob Leider. Artist Susan Sommer-Luarca was on stage along with Big105.9 FM’s Paul Castronovo serving as M.C. Gray Robinson, P.A. representative Robyn Vines welcomed guests as the Grand Marshal - Inside Edition’s Deborah Norville was announced to a cheering crowd.

Residents and businesses along the New River and Intracoastal Waterways are encouraged to decorate their properties or docks and participate in the 2012 Shoreline Decorating Extravaganza presented by Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company. This year’s event, December 11th, marks the official beginning of lighting up the backdrop of our award-winning Parade. By decorating your homes, condos, businesses, gardens and even docks for the Tuesday prior to the Parade, the holidays come alive in sparkling splendor along the waterways. As an award, WSVN-Channel 7 films the best of the best in decorations. This filming is included in the upcoming Winterfest® Television Special.

On the evening of December 15, 2012 - The Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest® Boat Parade participants will be smiling to multiple camera crews. WSVN will film from the Riverside Hotel on Las Olas Boulevard as well as the Stranahan House. Comcast Communications will provide live webcam.

WinteRfest® student fantasy boat aRt contest

This is a mandatory meeting for all Boat Parade participants to receive line-up information, rules, and regulations for the Parade. This mandatory meeting will be structured with the manual available to download prior to the meeting. All captains will partake in a review of the waterway and rules prior to enjoying a dinner and reception. Goodie bags will be given out to each captain. CAPTAINS ONLY.

Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest® Boat Parade along with long-time supporter YP.com are working together to make this year’s Fantasy Boat Student Art Contest better than ever. Contest entrants (Broward County Students 3rd – 5th grade) can submit drawings of a boat they have seen or would like to see in the Parade.

Winners of the contest will appear in select 2013 YP directories. All submitted artwork will be on display at ArtServe on March 7. Winterfest® President and CEO Lisa Scott-Founds said this program has become a valuable aspect of the organization, bringing awareness about the Parade to students while at the same time infusing the love of art into our schools.

We need you to be a contRol boatUnlike a land Parade where police can put up barricades and rope spectator areas, the waterways are a little more difficult to “fence.” Winterfest® is proud to work with local volunteers, boating clubs and Coast Guard Auxiliary to coordinate our Official Control Boat

Fleet. The Control Boater is the additional eyes and ears of the Parade as well as the “line” between the Parade and spectator viewing. If you are a boater who would like to have an up close view of the Parade, please contact the Winterfest® office for Control Boat information.

After you volunteer with Winterfest®, you will receive an invitation to our Volunteer Party. This Thank You party is scheduled for March at Timpano Italian Chophouse and Martini Bar. The event will also honor the winner of the Carolyn McLaughlin Spirit of Volunteerism Award. The 2011 recipient of this award was Ed Braxl.

Just before the Parade sets underway- Santa checks the route from a helicopter fly by from the United States Coast Guard along the New River and the Intracoastal to see who is naughty and who is nice. Fireworks will herald the beginning of the Parade.
