Bulletin...10.02.12

From the Secondary Principal and Curriculum Director

Parent-teacher-student conferences will be held on Wednesday, February 29th and Thursday, March 1st.  These are request only conferences; requests for a conference can be made by parents, teachers or students. Appointments will be made by individual teachers and conferences will be held in individual classrooms.

Congratulations to all secondary students who have earned recognition on the Honor Roll for Semester One. Students received their certificates this week and are to be commended for their achievements.

Honor Roll placement in the High School is determined by the student’s grade point average (GPA) which is the average of all grades C and above. (Students who have grades lower than a C or incomplete (I) grades will not be included in the Honor Roll.)

Honor Roll placement in the Middle School is determined by the student’s individual grades of B- to A+ and Effort scores of 1 or 2. (Students who have grades lower than a B- or incomplete (I) grades, or effort scores of 3, 4, or 5 will not be included in the Honor Roll.)

In the Classrooms:

Earlier this week, students received a letter to bring home regarding the possibility of starting a Homework Club here at AISR for middle and high school students. Please read the attached letter for further information about the club and return the form to Irene Houlder. We will keep you informed as these plans progress. Please find this letter attached at the end of this Bulletin.

A quick reminder about course registration forms - please be sure to sign the form and return it to our School Counselor, Sharice Welch, by Thursday, February 15th. We are busy preparing the schedule for the 2012-13 academic year and this information will help tremendously with our planning.

Dear AISR Parents,

We are looking into starting an after school homework club for middle and high school students. We have a number of students we feel would benefit greatly from such a club. The purpose of the club is to provide structured after school support for homework completion. In addition, the staff will support students in organization, planning, and time management to ensure that studentʼs assignments are completed to an acceptable standard and on time. If necessary and when possible, help with some content (math, science, etc.) could be included. Finally, we aim to develop studentsʼ motivation to study as well as their self-confidence.

Parents who feel that their child(ren) would benefit from such support will be able to sign their child(ren) up for a set number of afternoons per week. AISR will encourage the families of students who are struggling or are failing courses to join. As always, a second option is to find a private tutor to help the student get back on track. The homework club will be a service provided by the AISR for which an extra charge will need to be made.

Before we can begin the club, we need to know from our parent body what the level of interest is.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could spend a few moments answering the following questions and returning the form to the front office or emailing the information to: ([email protected]).

Thank you!

Irene Houlder and the AISR Homework Club Team
