Today, when scientists launch a satelliteinto orbit, they compensate for timeflowing faster in space than on Earth. This is achieved by setting the satellite

clock to tick more slowly. During the launch, from the ground view, the clock on thesatellite gradually ticks faster as the rocket as-cends. Upon reaching orbit, time has sped upenough for the once-slow clock to synchronizewith those on Earth.

Changes in the flow of time during daily lifeare too insignificant to notice. Einstein’s geniuswas in his ability to discover hidden secrets ofthe universe while daydreaming during train

commutes and work. His structured imagina-tion partially unraveled what has always beentrue. In this way scientists are likearcheologists by uncovering what already liesbeneath the surface.

Einstein is ironically known for complexmath in his theories, while the mainconclusions can be stated in a sentence. For example: Time does not pass at the

same rate everywhere; it’s flexible.Amazingly, the thought process Einstein

used to see how time changes can be summa-rized visually in 15 minutes using no math. Hethought in pictures. For this reason you canwatch and experience revelations that passedthrough one of the most brilliant minds in his-tory a century ago.

His daydream connects gravity and motionin less time than it takes to watch an episode of“SpongeBob SquarePants.” You don’t need tobe a physicist to understand. Einstein oncesaid, “The most incomprehensible thing aboutthe world is that it is comprehensible.”

Fact: Time passes faster on the moonthan on Earth. For every minute youexperience, slightly more than aminute goes by on the moon. Thedifference is not due to some weirdtime-zone technicality, but because theflow of time itself is not the same inboth places. Time does not pass at thesame rate everywhere; it changes. OBAMAGOES ONPOST-DEBATEOFFENSIVE

SUSANFERRECHIO CHIEF CONGRESSIONAL CORRESPONDENT FOR THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER

Both sides are still waiting to see the poll numbersthat would show just how much of an impact lastweek’s presidential debate had on the race, butPresident Barack Obama wasted no time springingback from his listless performance to launch a newround of attacks on Republican Mitt Romney.

Obama hit the campaign trail almost as soonas he left the debate stage at the Universityof Denver, with aides pledging to make ad-justments. Within 48 hours, the president

was on the rebound.Obama made an appearance in Colorado, then jet-

ted off to Wisconsin, Virginia and Ohio — all crucialbattleground states. Bolstered by the news that un-employment just dipped below 8 percent, he sprint-ed onto makeshift stages in front of cheering crowdsand displayed a level of enthusiasm Democratswished he’d shown against Romney. He took what hecalls a shellacking in the debate, but Obama wasn’tgoing to spend another minute being defensive.

“My guess is they will never again take their footoff the accelerator,” Democratic strategist ChrisLehane told The Washington Examiner. “This is acampaign where Obama has gotten where he hasgotten by constantly being on the offensive.”

Central to the president’s comeback is hischarge that Romney’s acclaimed perform-ance may have been elegant but was pep-pered with lies about what he really wantsto do as president.

“My opponent has been trying to do a two-stepand reposition, and got an extreme makeover,” Oba-ma said at George Mason University in Fairfax, elicit-ing laughter from the crowd.

At a rally of 12,000 in Denver, he called his debateopponent “the guy playing Mitt Romney” and saidRomney misrepresented his real agenda “because heknows full well that we don’t want what he’s beenselling for the last year.”

Republicans grudgingly acknowledged that Oba-ma’s strategy to blunt Romney’s post-debate momen-tum could work.

“It was really a brilliant move,” said Hogan Gidley,a Republican strategist and former top aide to Repub-

lican presidential candidate Rick Santorum, a one-time Romney opponent. “It discounts Romney’s per-formance, but it also subtly gives an excuse for Oba-ma’s own performance.”

Political experts analyzing Obama’s lateststump speeches noted that the president isblasting Romney on issues like Medicare andtaxes, which target voters in must-win swing

states like Ohio and Florida“It now looks like the gloves are coming off,” Uni-

versity of Florida political science professor DanielSmith told The Examiner. “The president seems will-ing to hit his challenger with material gleaned fromhis negative ads, which have been softening Gov.Romney for months in key battleground states.”

Obama advisers say they aren’t worried about thedebate because Romney still lags behind in the swingstates, though a Rasmussen poll out Friday showedthe gap suddenly closing in Ohio, a must-win statefor Romney.

Obama, meanwhile, is picking materialstraight from the debate transcript toridicule Romney, including Romney’s as-sertion that he would cut federal fundingfor public broadcasting if elected

president.“For all you moms and kids out there, don’t wor-

ry,” Obama told the Fairfax audience. “Somebody isfinally getting tough on Big Bird.”

While the quips were a hit, Gidley said, theyreached an audience much smaller than the onewatching his lackluster debate performance.

“The problem for Obama,” he said, “is 65 millionpeople saw his debate performance.”

Central to thepresident’scomeback is hischarge thatRomney’sacclaimedperformancemay have beenelegant butwas pepperedwith lies aboutwhat he reallywants to do aspresident.“My opponenthas been tryingto do a two-step andreposition, andgot an extrememakeover,”Obama said.

That’s what JoanneRutkowski, a professor of musiceducation at Pennsylvania StateUniversity, thinks, anyway. “Afew people can’t sing in tune —that’s because they don’t lis-ten,” she says. “For most people, though, the issue is how they’reusing their voice.”

Humans actually have twodifferent modes for voice use.“It’s like a manual transmis-sion,” Rutkowski says. “Youcould get up to 30 [mph] in firstgear, but it’s not good for theengine. Learning to sing isabout finding your voice’s dif-ferent gears and learning howto shift smoothly from one toanother.”

She teaches a half-creditclass for future music teachers. Each student picks a non-singing friend or relative and, over the course of the semester, teaches him or her to sing.“They record them singing‘Happy Birthday’ at the begin-

ning of the semester, and thenagain at the end,” she says.“The difference is always amaz-ing.” And the guinea pigs, ofcourse, are all delighted withtheir new skills.

“Successful music educationwould be if every high schoolgraduate could sing ‘HappyBirthday’ to his or her chil-dren,” Rutkowski says, “But it’snever too late to learn.”

As of press time, magician and“endurance artist” David Blainedid not die over the weekend aspart of his latest stunt,“Electrified: One Million VoltsAlways On.” For “Electrified,”Blaine stood on a 20-foot-highplatform on Pier 54 inManhattan for 72 hours straightwhile 1 million volts of energyzapped around him from Teslacoils. “Electrified” was interac-tive; people could control thecoils from viewing stations inLondon, Beijing, Tokyo andSydney. But, here’s the thing:Blaine was never in true danger. He donned a 27-pound chain-mail Faraday bodysuit and hel-met which conducted thecurrents away from him, notthrough him. The magician’sdoctor, Stuart Weiss, admittedto Wired that the main issue forBlaine would be avoiding inhal-ing nitrous oxides emitted bythe electricity.

Am I the only one whothinks this is the mulimilliondollar version of a magicianpretending to take your nose? Iwill say that I like his outfit —he looks like a chubby 11-year-old whose Halloween costumeis a knight from outer space.

Kutcher andKunis: It’sserious

It may be less than a year sinceAshton Kutcher split from DemiMoore, but apparently he’sready to tie the knot again —with girlfriend and Esquire’slatest Sexiest Woman Alive,Mila Kunis. An engagement an-nouncement is expected byChristmas, according to Heatmagazine. “Ashton and Mila aretalking marriage. He’s planningto propose at Christmas,” a

source says. Marriage so soon?Doubtful. But it looks like thelovebirds are at least worship-ing together. Us Weekly reportsthat the two attended RoshHashanah holiday services atthe Kabbalah Center in NYC onSept. 18. “The men and womenare separated [during the serv-ice], but Ashton always smiledat her,” an eyewitness tells UsWeekly.

Kidman: Still wounded fromdivorceIt may have been more than adecade since Nicole Kidman splitfrom Tom Cruise, but to hear theactress tell it, there are somewounds that still haven’t healed.“I got married really fast and re-ally young,” Kidman tells

Australia’s Who magazine.“Then, when it didn’t work out, I had to reallydig deep and find my waythrough depression. I have no re-grets about all of it. It was all partof growing up.” And that grow-ing up eventually led her to hus-band Keith Urban, with whomshe has two children. “There wasa long time when I never thoughtit would happen for me again —and it happened,” she says. “Inever ever take Keith or our lovefor granted, and I always keep inmy mind that my dream is to

grow very old with him.”

Bynes is back (kinda)After months of trouble behindthe wheel, run-ins with the lawand reports of meltdowns andpotential rehab stays, AmandaBynes has finally broken her si-lence — sort of. After keeping offof her Twitter account formonths, Bynes was back late lastweek to tweet a simple “:)” — asmiley-face emoticon. The tweetprompted several responsesfrom followers expressing con-

cern over her condition.

Biel: ‘I’m cool’ aboutwedding planningJessica Biel’s nuptials with JustinTimberlake may be right aroundthe corner, but she isn’t stressed.“I’m just pretty much cool as acucumber in general in my life.So no, I’m cool,” she tells UsWeekly. “I’m one of those peoplewho is not very detail-oriented.I’m sort of the … big idea person. So I’ll probably give an idea andthen let it be created.”

TV watch list‘Taken’ with Janssen

She’s been a Bond villain,X-Men’s Jean Grey, an al-luring transsexual on“Nip/Tuck” and soon, an

evil witch in “Hansel andGretel: Witch Hunters.” Butright now, Dutch actress, mod-el, writer and director FamkeJanssen is focused on thereprisal of her role as Lenore, the long-suffering ex-wife of re-tired CIA operative Bryan Mills(Liam Neeson). While she andher daughter (played byMaggie Grace) survived thefirst round of EasternEuropean thugs in Luc Besson’s“Taken,” the family of threefaces a challenge of a differentkind when vacationing inIstanbul in the film’s sequel.Janssen spoke to Metro aboutthe new film and how shebroke a rib in the name of aconvincing action sequence.

You’ve remarked that the chaos of Istanbul enhancedyour performance whilefilming “Taken 2” there. Tell us more about whathappened on set. It’s an absolutely breathtak-ingly beautiful place — veryold, but it also has one of thefastest growing economies, soit’s just outgrowing its ownsize. As a result, there’s morecars than the city knows whatto do with, more people, moremopeds, more wild dogs, moremotorcycles. The mosques

have loudspeakers on them, and they are competing withone another in terms of [broad-casting] the prayers that hap-pen at numerous times duringthe day. It was a pretty chaoticexperience. But that reallyworked in my favor for thethings that we were filming. You have quite a physicallydemanding role in “Taken 2.”Did you have to hang upsidedown, as your character does atone point in the film?Thankfully I did not have to behung upside down. They had adouble for me to do that, which was great. I was just be-ing dragged around a bunch. Itwas more that I had a bunch ofstunt guys on either side whowould drag me through hall-ways or dirty alleys or whatev-er. And of course [there was]the whole sequence with thescissors and knife or whateveron my face — moments likethat, there’s just very little act-ing required. It’s just usingwhat’s there.Considering you’ve done a fairshare of action films, includingthe 1995 Bond film“GoldenEye,” what’s one of theworst injuries that you’vesustained while on set?I’ve actually broken a rib twice.I broke my rib on “GoldenEye”and I broke a rib on “Hanseland Gretel: Witch Hunters” —the movie that comes out inJanuary with Jeremy Renner.

So I’ve experienced some in-juries. On “Hansel and Gretel,”on top of everything, I hadprosthetic makeup and Icouldn’t see because I had con-tacts that covered my wholeeyes, so these things are alwaysa little challenging. What do you think wouldhappen in a third “Taken” film?Maybe they could do what I al-ready suggested for “Taken 2,”which was that Liam was going

to be taken and Maggie and Iwould come and save him.Nobody liked that idea, appar-ently. I was joking by sayingthat, of course. I don’t know;Liam apparently is adamantabout not wanting to do a“Taken 3” and the director ofour last movie, OlivierMegaton, said that there wasnot going to be a “Taken 3.” Ialways say you never know.It seems possible. “Taken 2”

didn’t feel like a laborioussequel. They were very clever about ittoo. It’s a sequel but it feels likea different movie altogetherand time has passed. The char-acters have gone through somechanges, the setting is differ-ent, different people get taken. It’s a fun ride.

Actress Famke Janssen returns to the Luc Besson franchise

Getting dragged around Istanbulby creepy thugs and breaking arib are all part of the job

The calm before the storm: Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) and his ex-wife Lenore (Famke Janssen) enjoy touring Istanbul before someone from their past reappears.

A fairy tale

comes of age

Can you tell us more aboutyour character in “Hansel and Gretel”?

“Hansel and Gretel” is thestory of Hansel and Gretelthe fairy tale — but whenthey’re grownups and wantto go and hunt the witchesthat have tormented them inthe past. So I’m the mainwitch in that story. We shot itin Berlin, and it’s coming outin January. Jeremy Rennerand Gemma Aterton areHansel and Gretel. It’s veryinteresting because it’s adifferent spin on the fairytale in a way that nobody’sdone it yet.

rector is any good.

How is it being a part of TimBurton’s troupe, having adirector say, “I want you back”?Well, obviously if the director ishorrible you say, “Who gives ash--?” [Laughs] But in Tim’scase, you’re honored, you’recomplimented. And we did really like each other. We likeeach other a lot. You don’t hear a lot of badthings about Tim Burton.Because of his position of pow-er and his reputation of creativ-ity, he would therefore beallowed to pull off being moodyone day on the set. ... But I al-ways see him, especially in awork situation, in a joyful, joy-ful state of mind. He’s happy tobe there. That’s the trick ofTim, he’s not what you thinkhe would be — or what onemight think he might be,which would be, “I wonder ifhe’s scary? I wonder if he’sbrooding?” He’s just a joke guy.But behind all-black clothingand sunglasses and the hair.Well, that’s his hair. And I thinkthat he just likes black jackets. How often during these pressjunkets are you reminded of

your own celebrity interviewercharacter, Jiminy Glick?Well you know, the misconcep-tion of Jiminy was that he wassatirizing you guys, and he was-n’t at all. He was satirizing mo-rons with power. Which of your characters dopeople ask you to reprise themost often?I mean, obviously people willtalk about Franc, they’ll talkabout Jiminy, they’ll talk aboutEd Grimly or Jackie Rogers Jr.You know, they’ll talk aboutthese characters that havebeen around for a while. Butsometimes they’ll go obscure. Idid an episode of “ArrestedDevelopment,” and peoplecome up and talk about UncleJack. Is Uncle Jack showing up againin the relaunch of the show?I had dinner with MitchHurwitz about a year and ahalf ago and he said, “We’vegot to get Uncle Jack back,” butno one’s sent the script. Let’sput it that way. But I loved thatguy.

Wake up, it’s yoursoul calling

My friend MichaelEisen, the author of“EmpoweredYOUth,” recently

said: “Feed your soul — it’sstarving.” This stark statementwoke me up to the reality thatso many of us are extremelydisconnected from our souls.

I believe our soul is thetruthful place within us that isall-knowing, loving and fullyfaithful. Through my spiritualpractice I have learned how totap into the inner voice of mysoul and let it be my guide. When I’m led by my soul voiceI am faithful, kind and pa-tient. But when I’m discon-nected from my soul voice Iam fearful, mistrusting andcontrolling. It’s much morefun to lead from my soul —which sounds obvious, but ofcourse it’s not always simple! However, I’ve committed tokeep the connection alivethrough a daily practice offeeding my soul.

If you feel disconnectedfrom your soul voice, now isthe time to reconnect. Hereare my three must-do ways tofeed it.

Zen in the city

GABRIELLEBERNSTEIN

Engage in silent contemplationThe key exercise for feedingyour soul is to have a dedicat-ed practice of silent contem-plation. It is in stillness thatwe can access the voice of ourtruth. When we’re runningaround trying to make thingshappen, trying to control out-comes or manipulate our life,we block that voice from com-ing through. But when we sitin stillness, we awaken theconnection. I suggest you be-gin a daily meditation prac-tice. Sit in stillness and silent-ly say, “I welcome the voice ofmy soul to come forward.” Ifyou need guidance, visit mywebsite for my free guidedmeditations.

Be honest with yourself and the worldRemember that your soul isyour truth. The best way to ac-cess it isn’t difficult or tricky:Just be truthful. Start to gethonest about how you feel, what you need and what youwant. Be unapologetic aboutyour truth. Speak it loud andclear, and trust that all theworld wants from you is yourauthenticity. Your truth willset you free and connect youto the world.

Metro does not endorse the opinions of theauthor, or any opinions expressed on its pages.

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to sit cross-legged with monks to engage in meditation.

PracticenonjudgmentWhen we judge ourselves orothers, we immediately discon-nect from that loving presencewithin. Judgment is a sure signwe’re leading from our head

and not from our heart. Oneday this week, practicenonjudgment towardeveryone, including yourself. This practice will help you feelmore connected to love andclear more space for your soulto come forward.

HeartbreakyogaHey, we don’t blame you fordrowning your sorrows in Benand Jerry’s.

“The last thing that youmay feel like when goingthrough a breakup is gettingback on your feet again,” saysyogi Tara Stiles, author of “Yo-ga Cures,” a book of posesthat claim to cure whateverails you. “But there are a fewsimple yoga poses that canhelp you start to feel like your-self again in just a few deepbreaths.” Her advice: “Repeatdaily in the morning and atnight until you are feelingback to yourself again, andthen keep doing it. Yogaworks wonders, but you haveto practice in order to receivethe benefits.”

This sequence takes nomore than five minutes. We’renot promising it will help youfind love again, but it willmake you feel a little bit bet-ter about yourself.

1Pick yourself up: Warrior II

It’s time for thebattle of

getting strong in your body, calm in your mind and back toyour great self again. Warrior IIis just the pose for you rightnow! Stay strong in this posefor 20 long, deep breaths, andyou will feel a refreshedstrength that can get youthrough much more than abreakup.

2Clear your head: Seat-ed easy forward bend

This is great for releasing ten-sion in the upper back andhamstrings — and letting go ofall the stuff from the breakup.Stay here for 10 long deepbreaths, roll up gently and let itgo.

3Regain yourconfidence: Wheel

Time to open up to new possi-bilities because you're worthit. Don’t push or force into thewheel (or anything in yourlife). Press up gently andbreathe fully for five long, deep breaths. Lower downgently, too. Go easy.

4Get your mojo back:Knee-hug release

This pose is fantastic to count-er the big back bend of thewheel and also just feelsamazing on the back. You’llfeel a great opening from thetop of your head all the waythrough your tailbone.

Lewis Maltby is the for-mer director of employ-ment rights for theACLU, and founded the

legal advocacy nonprofit Na-tional Workrights Institute in2009. Recently, he authored“Can They Do That? RetakingOur Fundamental Rights in theWorkplace.” We caught upwith him to ask, well, what ex-actly can they do?

What is the legal definition of“employment at will”?Your boss can fire you for anyreason under the sun, no mat-ter how unfair or irrational. Hecould do it because he doesn’tlike the color of your tie.

Is that the law in every state?Essentially. There are a fewstates that have laws about off-duty behavior. The big excep-tion would be discrimination. But it has to be the specific dis-crimination congress has saidcan’t be used. Congress hasn’tprohibited discriminationagainst gays, so employers canstill discriminate against them, legally. Can you be fired for your politics? There are about five stateswhere your boss can’t fire youfor your politics. But that’s it. Ifyou’re not in a state where off-duty conduct is protected, and

it’s not a prohibited form of dis-crimination, and you’re not awhistle-blower, you don’t havea case. If your boss accused youof taking money and you had avideotape of someone else do-ing it, it wouldn’t do you onebit of good in court. When, as a nonunion worker,do you have a legal leg to stand on?

“Wage and Hour” violations arevery common. There are thou-sands of employers that breakthese laws: They don’t paytime-and-a-half for overtime, orthey pressure you to clock outand continue to work, or theydon’t pay minimum wage. Inthe restaurant business alonethere are, probably, more com-panies that break this law than

follow it. You can do somethingabout that. The Department ofLabor will usually investigate ifthey receive substantial evi-dence that the law is being bro-ken. And it’s anonymous: Yourboss will never know whocalled the Department of Labor.

Searching for a job is hard foreveryone. But if you have acriminal record to tack ontoyour résumé, that applicationjust got a lot tougher. However,a record isn’t a deal-breaker: Anew study byCareerBuilder.com found that51 percent of human resourcemanagers claim to have hiredex-offenders.

How do you find a new jobtoday despite past run-ins withthe law? For starters, be up-front about your convictions.“Those with previous criminalrecords in pursuit of employ-ment should take the initia-

tive,” explains Bruce Clarke, president and CEO of humanresource management firmCAI. “Be the first to inform yourpotential employer about yourcriminal record. The last thingyou want is for an employer tofind out from another source.”

Being in a city puts you atan advantage, according toGlenn Martin, the vice presi-dent of development and pub-lic affairs at the Fortune Socie-ty, a nonprofit that supportsformer prisoners when re-en-tering society. “Employers lo-cated in cities that are ethnical-ly diverse often have fairer hir-

ing policies,” says Martin, whorecommends seeking out com-panies that advertise as “equalopportunity employers.”

Ultimately, this is just likeany other job search: You mustfocus on how to discuss andframe your past, and make

sure you keep moving forward.“The No. 1 recommendationhiring managers have is to ownyour past and focus on whatyou learned from it to growprofessionally and personally,”says Rosemary Haefner, vicepresident of human resources

at CareerBuilder. “You alsowant to stay active. Takingclasses, volunteering and tap-ping into social networks canbe good ways to help overcomeobstacles associated with jobhunting with a criminal past.”

Romney’s debatewas lies, all lies! RE: “OBAMA SHIFTS TACTICSAFTER ROMNEY’S LIVELYDEBATING” (METRO, OCT. 5-7)Your Friday headline“Romney’s lively debating”would have been more apthad it characterized the cha-rade as “Romney’s lyingdebating.”

Including his glaringly pre-posterous claims that he isnot proposing a $5 trillion taxcut and that he would notlower taxes for the verywealthy (never mind the factthat all year long he hascalled for “20 percent tax cutsacross the board”), the Repub-lican candidate told at least27 major lies in the course ofhis 38 minutes of speakingtime, and there were someminor lies tucked in as well.

In fact, during the courseof his remarks, the only

words that rang true werefound in his tastelessly glee-ful cruel indication that hewould be quick to axe JimLehrer, as his words served toillustrate the delight he allud-ed to months back when henoted that he loves to firepeople. KEVIN KOERPER, VIA E-MAIL

We watched Mitt Romney be-have and speak like he neverhas before. Suddenly he won’tcut taxes for the wealthywhen we have such deficits, and he will lower taxes forthe middle class, even thoughhe campaigned all year longthat the way to stimulate theeconomy was to cut taxes forall, including corporations.Mitt speaks of the “freedomsof capitalism” while attackingan alleged 47 percent ofAmericans, many of whom

worked hard and contributedto Social Security andMedicare and don’t considerit a “gifted” entitlement. Thisis also the same man who wasfor abortion rights prior toopposing, and passed univer-sal health care in his state. The classic flip-flop. So thequestion remains: Should webelieve this man? Can wetrust him?DAVID DIBELLO, VIA E-MAIL

Give a little creditwhere credit’s dueRE: “BRANSON INSPIRES NEEDFOR BETTER SHARING OF IDEAS”(METRO, OCT. 5-7) Letter writerRay Collins stated that SirRichard Branson washypocritical for talking aboutdirty fuels on one hand whilemaking money fromindustries that contribute to

our environmental woes onthe other. I seem to recallreading in the same Metro, the gentleman admitting tohis part in the environmentalmess and saying that he is al-so doing his utmost to count-er the effects by investing inclean up/green/energy initia-tives. Until you stop riding incars, buses, planes and trains,I say don’t bash the man. EKENG MANCZUK, VIA E-MAIL

Patriots 31 | Broncos 21 Next Sunday: at Seattle, 4:05 p.m. (CBS) On deck: vs. NY Jets

Three thingswe saw ...

1It’s never easy. The Patri-ots looked like they hadthe game locked up late

in the third quarter and earlyin the fourth but a keyturnover — and more issueswith the secondary — led tothe Broncos making thegame quite interesting latein the contest. Despite post-ing 151 yards rushing,Stevan Ridley nearly handedthe Broncos the game as hefumbled the ball at the Pats'32-yard line with 4:24 left.DeMaryius Thomas had afield day against the NewEngland secondary, hauling

in nine receptions for 188yards, and Peyton Manningactually put up better num-bers than Tom Brady (23-of-31, 223 yards, 1 TD) as thelongtime Pats foe completed31-of-44 passes for 345 yardsand three TDs. DevinMcCourty continued to haveproblems in the Patriots’ sec-ondary. His pass interferencecall in the second quarter, inwhich he once again failed toturn around to see the foot-ball, led to a Manning to JoelDreesen touchdown to tie itat 7-7. The Patriots were alsoextremely lucky in the firstquarter. On the Broncos’ firstdrive, when Sterling Mooremade up for getting beatdownfield by Thomas bypunching the ball loose after

the catch. New Englandrecovered the fumble.

2Sweet revenge.Josh McDaniels gotrevenge on his former

employer as the Patriots’ of-fense posted 31 points in thefirst three quarters. In fact,New England broke a teamrecord with 35 first downs inthe game. McDaniels used anextremely quick pace, evenby Patriots standards, tothrow off the Denver defenseearly in the game. Brady hitWes Welker for an 8-yardtouchdown to give the Pats a7-0 lead in the first quarter. For the second time in twoweeks, Brady had a shortrushing score, this one com-ing in the third quarter as

the Patriots separated them-selves from the Broncos witha 24-7 lead. The Pats posted awhopping 251 yards rushingas they continued to changeup looks with an alreadydeadly offensive attack.

3Defense, a work inprogress. Though the de-fense allowed another

opponent to creep back into

the game (New England wasup 17-7 at the half), therewere plenty of positives. RobNinkovich forced a pair offumbles, including a strip ofWillis McGahee with 3:42 leftin the game — and JermaineCunningham came up withthe ball as the Pats were ableto ice it. Manning waspressured early, with JerodMayo and Brandon Spikesboth disrupting No. 18's tim-ing. The Patriots, led by Chan-dler Jones and Spikes, alsostuffed Lance Ball on a keythird down at midfield to startthe second half. It was anoth-er good sign that out of thelocker room the Pats’ defensedidn’t allow a team to find it'soffensive flow.

MATT BURKE

9-4With yesterday’s win,Tom Brady improved to9-4 all-time againstteams quarterbacked by Peyton Manning.

Tom Brady lunges in from the 1-yard line in the Patriots’ 31-21 win yesterday. Brady was 23-of-31 for 223 yards with one touchdown toss.

Colts upset Packers, Redskins lose RG3Arm chair quarterbacks every-where were happy yesterday.Of the six early NFL games, fivewere decided by just one pos-session in the fourth quarter. Here is a quick recap:

Indianapolis Colts 30Green Bay Packers 27

In the upset of the day, theColts came back from a 21-3halftime deficit to overtake thePackers at home. AndrewLuck’s 4-yard touchdown passto Reggie Wayne with 39 sec-onds left was the winningscore. Green Bay had a chanceto tie the game with a 50-yard

field goal as time expired, butMason Crosby missed badly.

Indianapolis dedicated thewin to their head coach, ChuckPagano, who was diagnosedwith leukemia and may missthe entire season.

Atlanta Falcons 24Washington Redskins 17

Atlanta scored 17 fourth- quar-ter points to overtake the Red-skins on the road. MichaelTurner’s 13-yard TD run with2:46 remaining proved to bethe game-winning score. MattRyan threw for 345 yards andtwo touchdowns in the win.

The big story was the healthof Robert Griffin III. The Red-

skins quarterback suffered a“mild” concussion, accordingto the team, in the second halfand didn’t return.

Miami Dolphins 17Cincinnati Bengals 13

The Dolphins scored 17 unan-swered points in the secondand third quarters, leadingthem to a road win over theBengals.

Reggie Bush and DanielThomas each rushed for atouchdown, while A.J. Greencaught nine passes for 65 yardsand a TD in the loss.

The Celtics spent four days inTurkey and then got a taste ofItaly before their return triphome to Boston.

That taste was a good one, asBoston crushed Emporio Ar-mani yesterday, 105-75. Butwins and losses are hardly im-portant during the preseason. With a lot of new faces, it’s anopportunity for Doc Rivers andhis staff to simply see whatthey’re working with.

The consensus? They’reworking with a lot. Sure, theylost on Friday (to one of the

best European teams out therein Fenerbahce Ulker) andturned the ball over too much, but in the first game of the pre-season, that’s to be expected —not to mention the C’s reliedheavily on their bench.

So what should Celtics fansbe excited about?

First, it looks like Jeff Greenis a man on a mission. Drawingcomparisons to James Worthyby CSNNE’s color commentator(and former Celtic) Brian Scal-abrine, Green stood out aboveeveryone in the team’s first

two games, combining to shoot12-for-19 for 33 points. Helooked assertive on the court, but most of all he looked com-fortable, which was somethingwe didn’t see in his first stintwith the team.

Another pleasant surprise

was rookie Jared Sullinger’sperformance. Sullinger playedso well in the first game (16points, eight rebounds), Riversstarted him in the second one(nine points, seven rebounds).

Don’t expect to see Sullingerin the starting lineup once theregular season begins. It’s just away for Rivers to get him timewith the first unit. Either way,it looks like Boston may havegotten the steal of the draftwith Sullinger at pick No. 21.

Less of a surprise, but just aspleasant, was the play of Rajon

Rondo. The Celtics won’t goanywhere without him, and heshowed that he’s even moreconfident this season, especial-ly in his shot. Rondo shot 7-for-7 in the first quarter of yester-day’s win and scored 17 points, many of which were of the cir-cus variety.

Lastly, there was the play ofDarko Milicic. Brought in aweek before camp, Milicic ismammoth in the paint andshowed his shot-blocking skillsall over this past weekend.
