we know this because we cared to ask. as educators, we understand that these defining characteristics are central to a student’s journey in discovering all that he or she can be—whatever that may be. and this strikes at the core of our philosophy.

our school offers amazing opportunities for students in kindergarten through grade 12 because we believe they are essential to the student’s fullest development in mind, body and heart. we also understand that it’s not “one-size-fits-all” when it comes to education and personal growth. providing a breadth of well-integrated curricular and co-curricular pro-grammes keeps students engaged, allows them to try new things, and stretches their boundaries in a safe environment.

what is striking—and personally gratifying—is that students and staff alike enjoy being at Lcc. we are a school that sets high standards in all that we do, but we also welcome the challenge. positive student involvement, committed teachers, supportive parents and a joy of learning combine to make the Lcc educational experience exceptional. our faculty and staff inspire our students to do their best and discover new strengths and passions. these special relationships are the true measure of the value-add that distinguishes the programmes and opportunities of our school.

ask Lcc students, parents, teachers, or alumni what makes Lcc a special place and they will tell you... abundant opportunities; a culture of excellence; a strong community; and exceptional resources.

Christopher shANNoN (pre-U ’76)Headmaster, Pre-U graduate and parent to two LCC alumni

community is part of our core values. at Lcc, there is a genuine sense of pride and belonging palpable not only across our four school divisions, but also in all layers of school life. we live our motto—Non Nobis Solum/not for ourselves alone. this means instilling a sense of respon-sibility and accountability in our students, and ensuring everyone has the chance to make a difference in the lives of others, locally or globally.

outstanding resources help make all of this possible. we are fortunate to have some of the best facilities in the city, which are complemented by innovative programming and teachers prepared to go the extra mile. whether it be math and science, performing arts, technology, athletics, leadership, service, pre-university, or the international baccalaureate diploma programme, it comes down to people, facilities and programmes. together they provide a comprehensive experience that develops personal potential and brings about seemingly endless possibilities for Lcc students.

there are many excellent schools from which to choose and we recognize that selecting the school that best fits is important. we invite you to explore Lcc and discover for yourself the journey that will lead to the power to be.

As a member of the Round Square Organization, LCC’s Middle and Senior School students have the opportunity to attend international conferences, participate in service projects around the world, and can apply for exchanges with other member schools.

from Kindergarten through pre-university, Lcc students have extraordinary opportunities to explore, achieve and grow, cultivating a passion for lifelong learning. exposing students to diverse opportunities prepares them to take on new challenges and discover their unique talents and abilities. combining an enriched academic programme with extensive co-curricular offerings focused on developing the mind, body and heart gives our students the power to be all they can be.

SolisterraIntegrating service, environmental principles, math and physics, grade 8 students learn how to build facilities in an off-grid community in western Quebec.

Grade 9CSI & Science FairStudents learn to apply the scientific method to a real-world problem — a mock murder at the school! experts teach students about their areas of forensic science. All the while, students further develop research, presentation and ICT skills as part of the science fair component. This is problem solving at its best!

Grade 10Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI)In partnership with the Toskan Casale Foundation, ypI is a year-long col-laborative service project with a local grassroots organization, integrating english, French, ICT and ethics. Programme d’enrichissement/Enrichment Programme (PREP)An interdisciplinary programme incorporating the core ideas and literary heritage of the west-ern tradition — in both languages (i.e., integrating english, French and his-tory). “prep” students are given a more intense in-troduction to the research and essay-writing skills they will need to develop for post-secondary studies. This is ideal preparation

for students interested in pursuing the Ib Diploma programme.

Grade 11Courage Canada Skating ProgrammeThe student leadership project, in collaboration with the Montreal Associ-ation for the blind and the philip e. Layton school, is focused on “bringing the blind to the ice one stride at a time.”

Grades 7 – 11Round Square MembershipLCC is the only school in Montreal to be a member of the round Square. with a membership of almost 100 of the leading schools from around the world, round Square provides students with leadership, service, and global edu-cation opportunities.

friendships, teachers that inspire, and engaging programmes contribute to an environment where school spirit and pride in belonging abound. from the earliest ages, a focus on honesty, respect and compassion instills in our students a sense of community driven by Non Nobis Solum/ not for ourselves alone. four small schools within a larger school position students to build confidence and feel a sense of belonging and responsibility, preparing them for the next realm—and the world at large. a sense of connection to Lcc endures beyond graduation as part of a tightly-knit alumni network. the Lcc family feeling and our ties to the community enable students to find the power to be engaged in the world around them.

    senior schooL

Lcc’s senior school is an exceptionally rich environment, brimming with academic challenge and bustling with community, athletic and social activity. grade 9, 10 and 11 students know that they are preparing not only for their future studies but for lives as passionate and engaged members of society. our senior school is a student-centred learning environment where students work independently, problem solve, think critically and create. students are expected to be deeply involved in the life of the school: opportunities abound to participate in international exchanges and service trips, clubs, leadership activities, athletics and the arts. students are also expected to give back to the community through Lcc’s service programme.

    grade 9 – 11

the quality and scope of the ib & pre-university programmes not only provide sound preparation for university entrance, they foster characteristics of personal responsibility, perseverance and leadership that will serve the graduate throughout university and into professional life. experienced teachers look to engage, motivate and push the students to help them lock down their understanding of key concepts and reach their academic potential. students develop the ability to assimilate information, understand complex concepts, and to think critically and creatively. they are also encouraged to balance the rigorous academic demands with numerous co-curricular opportunities in athletics, the arts, community service and leadership.
