Now BMW GS riders don’t have to choose between style

and function: The 2-piece AeroFlow R 1200 GS “Sport Fair-

ing” offers both. Though half the size of the original R 1200

GS Touring Fairings, the Sport version provides drivers

with excellent helmet and upper body pro-tection. The smaller design is perfect for 3-season and off-road riding. Lightweight aluminum sup-port brackets hold the screen securely, preventing windscreen flutter and turbu-lence. Give the gift of great riding protec-tion and comfort.

Originally known as cord-on-blue, this item was used

to hang extension cords until Barb realized it’s ideal for

hanging helmets, too! The back rim of your helmet fits

perfectly between the Helmet Hitch’s semi-circular lip

and the wall. It’s the only hanger we’ve found that holds a

helmet FLUSH against the wall without flopping around.

Available in Black or Blue at $9.95; they make great stock-

ing stuffers or can be used to tidy up your garage. Order

the blue color now for the closeout price of $4.99!

After a one-year hiatus, Honda’s flagship Gold Wing® luxury touring model has been updated for 2012 with a number of changes,

including styling, increased luggage capacity, bet-ter wind and weather protection, revised suspen-sion settings, and newer electronics. Such extras as advanced GPS navigation, linked braking with ABS, and the only airbag available on the market make the Gold Wing one of the most refined tour-ing machines in motorcycling history.

At Honda’s press launch we had the opportunity to ride new Gold Wings for about 750 miles in three days. Our route followed the lovely, sinuous and scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, starting in Lorton, VA, and ending in Knoxville, TN. We encountered all kinds of conditions, including near-freezing tem-peratures, heavy rain, fog and warm sunshine. We got to experience firsthand the new features and many creature comforts that the new Gold Wing offers.

Powertrain and PerformanceRevisions for 2012 are mostly to styling and ergo-nomics, and the 1832cc, horizontally opposed, six-cylinder engine is unchanged. It’s still one of the most refined motorcycle engines on the market; smooth and powerful, with plenty of acceleration even when toting a passenger and luggage. The large 6.6-gallon fuel tank houses the PGM-FI fuel pump and provides excellent long-distance cruis-ing range.

A 5-speed manual gearbox continues to be the only choice for gear selection. The clutch and transmis-sion work flawlessly, and reverse makes it easy to back out of a parking space uphill, even with a passenger and luggage. But we were expecting a little more: Six-speed transmissions have become standard throughout the industry, and Honda al-ready offers automatic and semi-automatic trans-missions on the DN-01 and VFR1200 models. It would be nice to see a six-speed manual and some

“I pulled RoadRUNNER out of the protec-tive sleeve I thought, “Hmm, seems thick-er.” As I read each article, I thought every one was one of the best I have read, and to have them all together in one issue was amazing. I have come to expect a much higher level of writing and photography from you, but this issue just blew me away. Don’t change a thing! Your maga-zine has struck a balance that no other has.
