R e g i s t r a t i o n

General information when EASA classes start:

All children must report to the ES Cafeteria K-2 or ES Cafeteria 3-5 directly after school at 3pm. Cafeteria supervision is provided until 3:15pm when EASA classes begin. ES K-2 students may be picked up at 4:15pm or ride the 4:25 pm ES K-2 EASA Bus (Registration online), or walk home if written parental permission is given via [email protected]. ES 3-5 students may walk home, be picked up or ride the 4:25pm Student Activity Bus (YOU must contact the Bus Office @ 63606770 to arrange for the Activity Bus) after confirmed enrollment in an EASA class. Please notify the EASA office (room C-002) or at [email protected] if your child will be absent from their EASA class.

Process & Policies PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY

• EASA program will be available online on August 12th, 2014.

• Students may register on-line (www.sas.edu.sg/easa) for up to 3 classes Online registration for First choice class opens August 18th at 10 am

• Online registration for Second & Third choice classes open from August 20th (midnight of August 19th) to August 24th.

• Registrations received on August 25th/ 26th onwards will be subject to a $15.00 late fee.

• Registrations will not be accepted after August 27th.

• If a class is full during registration period, students may request to be on ONE “Wish List”. In the following EASA term, parents will receive via email an early invitation to register for their Wish Listed class choice only.

• Minimum and maximum student enrollments are listed with each class description.

• There will be no refunds after you have paid and registered your child in a class (once you have received the receipt from PayPal).

• There will be no switches (transfers to a different EASA class) after your registration is confirmed (once you have received the receipt from PayPal).

Mandarin Out-of-the-Box! – KG/1st grade This program provides opportunities for SAS Elementary students to learn Mandarin in a fun playing environment. Students will be engaged in activities that are rich in visual cues and focus on developing communicative enjoyment and confidence. The main focus will be speech using lots of exciting hands-on activities. The program has been designed as a continuous three term curriculum and students are encouraged to participate for the entire three terms to get maximum benefit from the program.

Our girls-only kinder soccer program aims to ensure that your daughter gets an opportunity to develop her skills and coordination without being afraid of having to ‘beat the boys’. Our program aims to develop a love of sport by developing self-confidence in their abilities. Coaches will create fun practices and exercises to build their skills, tactics and games to develop players’ strategy and technical ability. Yoga for Children – KG/1st/2nd grade

Children’s yoga is a natural and healthy way to exercise, relax, focus and strengthen the mind, body and spirit connection. Yoga games, breath meditation and deep relaxation are wonderful self-help therapies and excellent for children’s general health and well-being. Each child needs his/her own yoga mat.

Gymnastics for Beginners – KG/1st grade This EASA class is a great opportunity for the children to develop their gymnastic skills. Cartwheels, handstands and rolls of every kind are just a few of the many skills we will teach. This would involve the use of their own body weight and being able to control it. Touch Rugby Skills (boys & girls) – 3rd grade Touch rugby is a fast moving, minimal contact, evasive game that is played throughout the world by boys and girls. The game is similar to rugby but without tackling, scrumming, mauling, lineouts and kicking. This fast, simple and exciting game promotes the fundamentals skills of running, handling, evasion and support play, whilst developing basic principles of attack and defense. It is a great social game too! SAS offers a select Touch (girls) or Rugby (boys) in 4th & 5th grade so, get a head start and learn to play now!

Girls Touch Rugby Skills – 4th/5th grade This class is suitable for both beginners and experienced players. Touch Rugby is easy to learn and is great to improve your child’s fitness. Our girls touch rugby program has the goal to teach girls specific touch rugby skills such as running with the ball, finding space, kicking, catching, scoring a try and most importantly, teamwork. SAS Under 11 team is the current gold medal holder for ACSIS so, learn to play before the tryouts in February 2015!

Synchronized Swimming is an Olympic Sport that combines ballet, gymnastics and swimming. This is a great sport for a creative child that likes music, chereography and swim. The coach is the former Captain of the Singapore’s Synchronized Swim Team. All participants must be able to swim at least one length of the pool (any stroke) and be comfortable when fully submerged in deeper water. An athletic swimming suit, swim cap and a yoga mat isall that is needed for this class! At the end of the term, parents will be invited to watch a performance.

Boys Rugby Skills – 4th/5th grade

Rugby is a very popular sport worldwide! Our beginner’s rugby program has the goal to develop your child’s physical and social skills, as well as encourage rugby specific skills such as safe and effective tackle techniques, perfect ball presentation, running, safe and effective body position when taking the ball, kicking, catching, scoring a try, and most importantly teamwork. You can be selected to represent SAS during Season 3 in our Under 11 team so, learn to play before the tryouts in February 2015!



Artistic Gymnastic Routines

– 4th/5th grade

It is one of the favorite styles of gymnastics! Students will learn to

perform short routines on & with different gymnastics

equipment (gymnastics ribbons, circus equipment

and etc). They will work on balance, strength and

choreography. Students learn to combine rolls,

handstands, cartwheels, pyramids, jumping,

hanging, and pulling up on bars and rope into routines

with partners & small groups.

Karate – KG/1st/2nd grade Karate is a traditional Japanese martial art, which teaches students how to use hands, elbows, knees and legs to become weapons. It teaches children good discipline, healthy lifestyle, good morals and also helps them to make new friends. This class aims to build a solid foundation for children to understand and enjoy Karate. Classes are taught by a dedicated Japanese Karate Association qualified 5th Dan black belt instructor who has been coaching for more than 15 years. This class will be supervised by an International Certified Instructor who is a 7th degree black belter. Taekwondo Instructor will assess new students that already have belts from other countries/organizations and he will determine what EASA Taekwondo class these students should attend. Kendo carries the principles of samurai swordsmanship cultivating your child’s mind, body, and spirit. Kendo is a fast sport that will build your child’s endurance, obedience and character. New students: it is compulsory for students to purchase a Shinai (bamboo sword) from the coach ($65).

This introductory course will focus on the values of Taekwondo, the fundamentals of Taekwondo stances, kicking and hand techniques for situational defense. Course taught by an International certified Taekwondo Instructor who is a 7th degree black belt. Instructor will assess new students that already have belts from other countries/organizations and he will determine what EASA Taekwondo class these students should attend. Performing Arts

Lil’ Ballerinas – KG/1st/2nd grade

A fun-filled opportunity for your child to learn ballet and dance to classical music by Tchaikovsky and Léo Delibes. Students learn ballet technique through famous ballets such as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Coppélia and more. No previous dance experience is required. Leotards and ballet slippers are preferred.

Come along and have fun learning Irish Dancing! In this beginner class, you will first learn a reel, and progress through to the light jig and hop jig dances. In some classes, we also work on specific skills to sharpen up your steps. Most dancers are able to perform on stage towards the end of the first year. Dancers can progress onto higher levels which include learning choreographed group dances and hard shoe dancing. As dancers progress, there are many opportunities to perform at both school and public events. The Irish Dancing teacher is Sharon Pawley (Hedigan) who danced competitively in the UK and Ireland for 15 years, and has taught in Singapore since 2005.

Does your child love to dress up, act and perform? Acting Antics offers students the opportunity to participate in a full theatrical live experience. These fun filled classes give students the opportunity to discover dramatic potential, learn basic acting skills, develop self–expression & and improve confidence. EASA students will audition, rehearse & perform in a fully costumed play. Every student gets a role with dialogue and fabulous costumes.

Sneak peek of Act II play : I Wanna be a Pirate - Penny has set her heart on becoming a pirate, but Xmas is coming & Penny desperately wants to go home. Sadly, Captain Sourpuss has said NO, apprentice pirates cannot go home for Xmas! However, 3 days before Xmas, the Captain and his band of scummy pirates are kidnapped by Murkala the sea monster. Is this Penny's chance to prove her worth & go home for Xmas? Will Pearl the Oyster, the beautiful mermaids, Bump the Barnacle & Whoops the Whale help Penny & her best friend Pete rescue the pirates & solve the mystery of why they were kidnapped in the first place?

Imagine more… StoryPlay – 1st/2nd grade

In Imagine More..StoryPlay children learn storytelling skills to perform for an audience. Each child will create a story following the Imagine More Story Structure Steps©: Character Description and Storyboard. They will learn about the 5W (Who, Where, When, What and Why), how to structure a story with beginning, middle and end where a character must solve a problem, how to describe a character inspired in themselves and how to use their voice to transmit emotions. They will be performing both as a narrator and an actor, wearing a self-made costume and make-up or mask (optional). The purpose of these classes is to foster each child's confidence in expressing him/herself verbally and physically as a storyteller. We create a safe environment to try new things, challenge oneself and learn from and with friends. Parents receive a weekly summary and are welcome to participate as audience in the last two classes, as a way to be involved and nurture the children’s self-esteem.

Imagine more… StoryArt – 1st/2nd grade In Imagine More..StoryArt children will be using different art techniques to create their own picture books and present them to an audience. Each child will create a story following the Imagine More Story Structure Steps©: Character Description and Storyboard. They will learn about the 5W (Who, Where, When, What and Why), how to structure a story with beginning, middle and end where a character must solve a problem, how to describe a character inspired in themselves and experience the printing of their books. Piano for Beginners – 1st/2nd grade Open for new students only! Students will learn piano from square one. Each student will have his or her own keyboard with headphones on which to practice. During Piano for Beginners, students will be working on mastering the following skills: playing high and low sounds, using right and left hands separately and together, playing keys with the appropriate finger number, and finding groups of black keys and middle C. Students will also learn basic rhythms and music notation, as well as beginning improvisation. Students who have already had a keyboarding unit in their music class but do not yet take lessons, will also be able to advance the skills they learned in class. Beginners Violin Ensemble -– 4th/5th grade

The Beginners Violin Ensemble is open to 4th/5th grade students. Working through a violin methods book and supplementary materials, students will learn violin basics, with emphasis on playing skills and ensemble performance. We highly encourage students to make a commitment to EASA Strings for the entire school year. All students will need to bring their own violin. These can be purchased at many music stores around the city for about $175.
