3D Geometric Design in Math

Join nationally recognized mathematics professor Rachel McAnallen, aka “Ms. Math,” as she takes you on a mathematical journey through exciting, interactive activities. You will design mosaics with a compass and straight edge, make math models with paper, solve hands-on puzzles, create Escher-style artwork, and participate in number-sense math games.

Art of the Americas Enjoy exploring the art and culture of Incan, Mayan, and Aztec empires, Latin Americans, and other cultures of North America, like the Navajo and Inuit Indians. In this class you will be introduced to the diversity of indigenous Americans and produce artwork that reflects their cultures.

“Bienvenido a la Aventura”: An Exploration in Spanish Language, Art, and Culture

Learn Spanish language, culture, and art through vocabulary and authentic speaking exercises. Develop vocabulary and communication skills while you improve proficiency in the four language competencies: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Visit Purdue’s Latin American Cultural Center and participate in hands-on activities like cooking with an authentic Latin American/Mexican chef.

Morbid Medieval Medicine and Madrigal Madness

PULSAR I 9th – 12th Grade June 29 – July 12, 2014

Hi-Tech Hydrology Students will develop their own computer program that models complex hydrologic and climatic processes using a new web-based tool. Real-time data from rivers across the country will be used and analyzed to better understand various cause and effect relationships in the natural water cycle.

Ladies in the Lab In this full day, girls-only program, work on a research project with members of the Parker lab and learn how nanotechnology can be used to test the effectiveness of cancer treatments. Cancer cells have many activities going haywire, causing them to divide without control. Nanotechnology gives us the opportunity to watch what is going on inside the cells to see whether the drugs are actually working.

The Shape and Space of Design

Are you curious about architecture, fashion design, or other fields that rely on the creative use of space and shapes? Have fun exploring an advanced mathematics strand known as topology by creating 2D and 3D projects which will be shared during a Topology Fair at the conclusion of the course.
