Traditional tile shower pan construction, using a plastic liner underneath a sloped mortar bed for waterproofing (negative-side), creates an inferior tile assembly where moisture, dirt and body-oils can penetrate through the grout joints and into the porous mortar bed below. This combination of moisture, dirt, and body-oils create an unsanitary “sludge” within the shower pan that promotes unhealthy mold growth.

Tiled shower walls that are left unprotected allow moisture to permeate the inner wall cavities of the building’s envelope. This permeation can cause mold growth within the wall structure and promote the rotting of organic building materials.

Applying waterproofing to the outer-surface of both the shower pan and walls (positive-side) prior to installing tile, is the most effective method for controlling moisture in a tile shower assembly. KBRS Hard Core Shower substrates are waterproofed by applying our positive-side ShowerSeal® waterproofing system that will inhibit mold growth.

POLYURETHANE SEALANTOur ShowerSeal® Sealant is a flexible high performance polyurethane sealant developed to be applied to joints, coves, and corners above or below the waterline.

GAUGING FABRICShowerSeal® Gauging Fabric ensures that the Seamless Liner is applied to the proper thickness during the final waterproofing process. It’s designed to help eliminate installer error and reveals the membrane application thickness or “gauge”.

SEAMLESS LINERShowerSeal® Seamless Liner is a single component “liquid-rubber” waterproofing that forms a flexible, seamless water barrier. Once cured, you are ready to apply your thin-set and decorative tiles.

Our ShowerSeal® waterproofing system is engineered to eliminate installer error and enhance peace of mind, leaving no overlapping sheets that create failure-prone seams where water can escape. KBRS ShowerSeal® is a “family” of seamless waterproofing

LIQUID LINER - VS - SHEET LINERUncomplicate Shower Waterproofing!

There are two types of positive-side systems available for waterproofing tile showers. Both are extremely effective WHEN PROPERLY INSTALLED.

Sheet-applied waterproofing systems have multiple overlapping seams bonded together with thin-set mortar (FIGURE 1 - 1). Sheet-applied waterproofing systems are very difficult and time-consuming to properly install. Irregular shapes (radius curbs, custom seats, recessed niches…etc) will require more overlapped seams; thus making it more difficult to properly waterproof. More seams... more errors... more leaks.

Fluid-applied waterproofing systems are totally SEAMLESS (FIGURE 1 - 2), and easily applied using a paint roller or brush. Our ShowerSeal® system uses a fluid-applied waterproofing membrane that is integrated with polyurethane sealant and gauging fabric to ensure that the entire shower is easily, properly, and seamlessly waterproofed. No seams... no errors... no leaks.

The HardCurb® is one of our most innovative products. Its PVCore™ “cap” provides an “anchoring layer” for the mechanical anchors required when installing the mounting hardware for glass shower enclosures. It is a great alternative to traditional shower curbs built from wood, that are notorious for absorbing moisture.

ShowerSlope™

The KBRS ShowerSlope™ is the ideal replacement to traditional shower pans constructed of leak-prone mortar beds. It is pre-sloped in

our state of the art, quality-controlled factory with waterproofing field applied after the ShowerSlope™ and tile backer board are

installed. The ShowerSlope™ is designed to integrate with a KBRS optional HardCurb®

and/or Ramp and can be ‘cut-to-fit’ in the field.

Wedge™

The KBRS Wedge™ is pre-sloped to direct water to a linear drain. It is a great choice

when installing ‘large format’ decorative tiles and if required the Wedge™

can be ‘cut-to-fit’ in the field. The thin leading-edge (1/4”) is engineered to

prevent handling damage and opens your choices of almost any linear drain on

the market.

The KBRS Tile-Basin® is a ‘turn-key’ tileable solution to building a 100% leak-proof tile

shower floor. The KBRS Tile-Basin® is pre-waterproofed under strict quality

We use UL® Certified Geofoam to shape the rock-solid cores for our shower pans and then apply additional advanced composite materials and processes to make every KBRS shower pan exceptionally durable.

Geofoam is an environmentally friendly, lightweight, Geo-Synthetic, structural void fill used by the civil engineering community to construct roadways, bridge embankments, airport runways and building foundations. Geofoam resists insects, mold, decomposition, and severe weather conditions, including freeze-thaw cycles and moisture penetration.

Stepping into your bathroom shower may not inspire visions of surfing the perfect wave, but for KBRS founder Tommy Davis, the two activities are forever linked. KBRS, was originally in the business of remodeling luxury kitchens and baths; but over time it became increasingly obvious that low-quality, leak-prone tile shower construction methods and materials were used as the standard. Tommy believed that his customers deserved better, so he set out to change the standards.

During his time remodeling, Tommy recognized a rising demand for larger, more complex showers with more challenging designs and increasingly intricatesurfacing materials. Not aman to shy from a challenge, Tommy then developed a manufacturing system that could mass-produce custom shower components that excel with any unique design and surfacing materials desired.

Growing up on the Southeastern coast, surfing became a fixture in Tommy’s life, teaching him early on the intricate art of shaping high-performance surfboards. He connected the two passions and engineered a high-volume, proprietary manufacturing system based on surfboard construction, principles thus creating superior-quality custom shower components. Similar advanced composite materials commonly used to manufacture surfboards proved a perfect formula for KBRS to produce hundreds of thousands of shower components each year. That innovation has helped construct rock-solid, waterproof substrates for bathroom showers from coast-to-coast.

His drive to stay on the forefront of the industry continues to push KBRS to design and engineer even more innovative products for our diverse customer base. To this day, Tommy still serves as the company’s President and CEO; but when the “surf’s up,” don’t expect to catch him in the office.

KBRS DesignBlox™ is a comprehensive array of geometric building blocks (3-dimensional squares, rectangles, triangles, cylinders and more) that will liberate the way you design and construct tile showers seats. Use your imagination and mix and match the tileable shapes to

create your own unique tile shower seat designs.

Moisture absorption, wood-decay, fungus and mold growth can occur with wood framed tile shower seats. DesignBlox™ are manufactured from solid blocks of non-porous UL® Certified Geofoam which contains an antimicrobial that will inhibit the growth of mold and mildew. With DesignBlox™ solid construction,

there is no “void” below the surface in which moisture can build, and no wood to decay.

As with most of our KBRS products, custom sizes, shapes, and designs are available. All DesignBlox™ are factory-coated with KBRS ShowerSeal® Seamless Liner and are ready to be assembled and installed using common modified thin-set. Once installed, you are ready to add the decorative tile of your choice.

The KBRS Wedge™ is specifically engineered for use with linear drains. The Wedge™ is ideal for creating shower floors, wet rooms, or any design requiring a single plane and continuous slope to a linear drain. When required, it can be cut-to-fit in the field to meet just about any design specification.

The KBRS Wedge™ is manufactured using UL® Certified Geofoam at its core, and superior-grade warp-glass fabric infused with epoxy for its ridged outer layer. The ¼” leading edge (the “thin” edge) of a KBRS Wedge™ is built extra-strong to prevent damage during handling and installation. An optional KBRS FeatherEdge™ is available when an integral drain plate with an1/8” leading edge is required.

The KBRS Trench-Slope™ is a line of pre-sloped, linear shower pans designed to accept almost any brand or type linear shower drain. A KBRS Trench-Slope™ can be ordered with a drain-plate that allows the Trench-Slope™ to clamp to a

pre-installed Oatey tile shower drain or without a drain-plate that allows for a direct-to-pipe connection using a rubber coupling. These shower pans are available with or without factory applied perimeter components (flange/curb) and
