2015 ANNUAL REPORTFaith in Place is at a watershed moment. Faith leaders around the world are speaking out about care for the environment, and momentum continues to increase as faith communities take on projects to care for the Earth. Yet, we have the opportunity to do so much more.

Our Vision:• That all Illinoisans breath clean air and participate in a local food economy.

• That all people have access to healthy open space and live in homes with basements free from flooding and mold.

• That people of faith in Illinois lead the way for environmental justice.

Because of your generosity, we empower faith communities to make this vision a reality. Our collective Earth care actions are already making an impact throughout Illinois!

We can’t do this work without you – thank you so much for your ongoing support! Together, we can create the future we long to see. Your donation to Faith in Place this spring will help us continue to equip people of faith to take actions for environmental justice.

As a result, we helped 28 houses of worship complete energy audits. We equipped people across the state to utilize smart energy tools to reduce their electricity use and save money on their utility bills. With our support, faith communities are advancing their plans for solar panel installations.

For Local FoodIn 2015, Faith in Place, with 15 of our faith partners, hosted a series of indoor Winter Farmers Markets with participation of 41 local food vendors. 3,070 people attended these 15 markets with almost $55,000 in gross sales generated for the local vendors.

For Access to Healthy Open SpaceOur innovative Migration & Me Program builds solidarity between the migration journeys of humans, monarch butterflies, birds, and other migratory species. Through storytelling and education, people are inspired to attend nature outings and volunteer for habitat restoration.

Every $45 donated to Faith in Place allows us to inspire another volunteer hour of habitat restoration in our beloved forest preserves and parks.

During an hour of volunteering, people learn about our native ecosystems, restore habitat to native plants, spend recreational time outdoors, build intergenerational relationships, and connect with other faithful folks.

For Basements Free From Flooding and Mold In 2015, Faith in Place secured funding to install rain barrels, rain gardens, and stormwater infrastructure in communities that suffer most from basement flooding.

This is equivalent to 2.5 Olympic-size swimming pools! Every $200 donated to Faith in Place allows us to prevent an additional 1,300 gallons of water from entering the storm system.

For Empowering Faithful Voices for AdvocacyIn 2015, Faith in Place hosted five Faithful Citizen Workshops, training people of faith to make their voice heard for envi-ronmental justice. 293 people of faith joined Faith in Place at our State Capitol in Springfield last April to advocate for clean jobs and clean air, and to deliver more than 2,300 petitions emphasizing the positive impact of building a green economy for all.
