The curatorial team created 26 exhibitions of diverse media and makers, each accompanied by engaging gallery interpretive materials and educational experiences. Memorable exhibits include ‘Steven Sorman: Only When’, ‘Dance Theatre of Harlem: 40 Years of Firsts’, ‘Decade of Decisions: The Shaping of a Collection’, and ‘Contemporary Realism Biennial 2014’.

After a 2013 motor vehicle accident toppling the well-loved Helmholtz to the ground, this team worked diligently with engineers, insurance adjusters, city officials, attorneys, news outlets, and the artist, Mark di Suvero, to ensure the sculpture’s remarkable repair and return in September 2014.

The education team served an impressive 6,106 students through standards-based school tours, and for many of these students their visit to FWMoA was their first to a museum. For teens, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards program again set a record with 54 national medals awarded to our region’s students, placing the FWMoA regional affiliate program 4th in the nation for this honor.

The finance team and board representatives voted to allocate the operating surplus between the endowment, the plant fund, and a special education initiative that will add opportunities for adults to experience FWMoA exhibits in a deeper way.

The events and community engagement team raised $189,368 at the annual ARTrageous Gala, beating last year’s revenue by nearly 10%; more than 800 friends enjoyed our Seasonal Parties; 500 people celebrated at Day of the Dead; and 40,000 visitors flocked to see the spectacle of Chalk Walk unfold.

The development team secured a grant from the Foellinger Foundation to pursue a Transform project led by the Board’s strategic planning committee and True North Strategic Advisors. The 9-month project began with rigorous research on the level of engagement between FWMoA and its many constituents, the health of its operations, and the overall satisfaction of its members. These insights led to a renewed strategic plan and opportunities for engagement as the Museum forges a plan for growth over the next 5 years.
