Bruce Grewcock, Kiewit, Alliance Trustee ChairFor two years, I have served as Trustee Chair because I believe in ethics and integrity in business. I also think it’s important to give back to the Omaha business community. I’ve enjoyed all of the Alliance programs I’ve attended. The Executive Breakfasts are particularly interesting. I always find that I learn something practical. I go back to the office and pass insights to the rest of the Kiewit management team. Keep up the great work, Alliance. I plan to stay engaged going forward.
WELCOME

Beverly Kracher, Ph.D., Executive DirectorDear Friends, if I’ve said it once I’ve said it a hundred times – the Omaha Business Ethics Alliance is the most comprehensive, CEO engaged, business ethics network in the nation. This year’s Annual Report is a testament to our city’s greatness and our firmly held belief that ethics is a competitive advantage. From organizational leaders, to middle managers, to young professionals, and our youth, we strive to live the good, noble life. Smile as you read, knowing that each one of you is the reason that when companies take root here, they find it is one of the best places on earth to do business.
WELCOME

The Alliance is stable and has had a strong 2015 financial year.
We introduced a sponsorship initiative that created a revenue stream for research and curricula development for our complimentary community programs.
In addition, we have begun offering a new product called Elevate Ethics Academy. Seventeen Omaha organizations stepped up to pilot the program -- allowing the Alliance to self-fund the creation of this dynamic organizational ethics program.

Journalistic EthicsApril 2015
The Alliance proudly partnered with the Scottish Rite to produce the third annual Ethics on Trial. This year, “Matt Drudge,” author of The Drudge Report, was put on the stand to defend citizen journalism. After the trial, KETV Trustee Ariel Roblin facilitated a discussion on the ethics of journalism. The audience voted that Mr. Drudge was not a true journalist. He did not adhere to the ethical standards of accuracy and the right to control information, and therefore was not entitled to the protection of the Shield Law.

ETHICS ON TRIAL VP ETHICS EXCHANGE
Ethics and Compliance Officer BreakfastsLaunched in 2015
Corporate ethics and compliance officers in some of Omaha’s largest firms meet to share best practices and build relationships with their peers. In a trusted environment, these leaders talk about their organizational ethics programs -- all in the spirit of elevating the climate of ethical excellence in their companies.
With the generosity of Trustee Clayton Chapman, the VP Ethics Exchange group meets every other month in his prestigious restaurant, The Grey Plume.
“THESE SESSIONS ARE PROVING TO BE A GREAT VALUE IN LETTING US KNOW WE ARE NOT ALONE IN THE CHALLENGES AND STRUGGLES WE FACE, AND VALIDATING WE ARE ABSOLUTELY DOING THE RIGHT THING IN PLACING SUCH AN EMPHASIS ON ETHICS AS THE GUIDING PRINCIPLE IN OUR DAY TO DAY BUSINESS.”

Sarah Waldman, Alliance Govering Board Chair, presented Billie Jean King with our Beacon of Ethics Award at the Girls, Inc. luncheon. Ms. King is one of the 20th century’s most respected and influential athletes as well as a champion for social justice and equality. One of her greatest accomplishments was founding a leadership initiative to address inclusion and diversity issues in the workplace.

BUSINESS ETHICS CITY LAB
Formation of a New Research & Development DivisionLaunches in 2016
Since the birth of the business ethics consulting industry in 1991, products and services have been introduced to organizations that are high cost, low validity, and have low expectations for making real impact. The Business Ethics Alliance is positioned to address these problems with our innovative Business Ethics City Lab.
CONNIE DETERMAN, KIEWITANTHONY HENDRICKSON, PH.D. & DANIEL HENDRICKSON, S.J., CREIGHTON UNIVERSITY
The Business Ethics City Lab will be a collaborative effort of Alliance Trustees and the best behavioral ethics minds in the country. Together, we will field-test original hypotheses that will result in data-driven, evidence-based, practical business ethics products and services. We will identify and develop the organizational systems that inspire people of integrity to be their best. We are happy to announce that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska has agreed to pilot our first study on ethical systems and data security.
We will show that free enterprise pays off when individual integrity is expected and encouraged, and organizations reinforce the best in their people. The outcome will be stronger individuals, a more robust economy, and a justified belief in the value of a free market system.
BUSINESS ETHICS CITY LAB IS A NEW THREE-PART COLLABORATION BETWEEN ETHICAL SYSTEMS, CREIGHTON HEIDER COLLEGE OF BUSINESS, AND THE BUSINESS ETHICS ALLIANCE

Elevate Academy Pilot Program17 Pilot Organizations in 2015
In January 2015, the Alliance formed its ethics products and service division. Elevate Ethics Academy is our first product, a four-part series that educates employees, for-profits and non-profits, about business ethics in the workplace. It provides practical, positive tools that employees can immediately implement. Thank you to the 17 local organizations that stepped up to pilot the academy in our first year. We will continue to build out new curriculum in 2016, delivering our materials throughout the Omaha business community.
