DEFINITION
Criminal Sexual Conduct (CSC) 1st Degree (MCL 750.520b) is the sexual intercourse of a person, forcibly and/or against that person's will; or, not forcibly or against the person's will where the vic m is incapable of giving consent because of his/her temporary or permanent mental or physical incapacity. Michigan collects the crime data for this offense based on the Federal Bureau of Inves ga on's Na onal Incident Based Repor ng System (NIBRS). Note: CSC 1st and 3rd are differen ated by the weapon involved
and the degree of the vic m injury.
ANALYSISVOLUMEThe number of vic ms reported for CSC ‐ 1st Degree, Sexual Penetra on ‐ Penis/Vagina was 3,024. This is a reported increase of less than one percent from 2014 and an eight percent decrease from 2011.
More vic ms were reported in the month of August than any other month. The fewest number of vic ms were reported in December.
RATEThe crime rate for this offense in 2015 was 31 for every 100,000 persons. In 2014, the crime rate was 30 for every 100,000 persons, a decrease of three percent.
CLEARANCESLaw enforcement agencies cleared 796 incidents by an arrest or excep onal clearance. This is a reported 28 percent clearance rate which is the same clearance rate as 2014.
VICTIM INFORMATIONMost of the vic ms (75 percent) did not receive any injury. There were 17 percent of vic ms who received Apparent Minor injuries and six percent received Possible Internal injuries.
Thirty‐seven (37) percent of the vic ms had a Personal Weapon such as hands, fists, feet, etc., used against them. Fi y‐two (52) percent of the vic ms did not have a weapon used against them.
When reviewing the Vic m to Offender rela onships, 23 percent of the me the vic m was an Acquaintance of the offender. With 13 percent of the vic ms, the Vic m to Offender rela onship was not known to law enforcement, 10 percent were Otherwise Known, and another 10 percent were reported as a Friend.
Seventy‐seven (77) percent of the vic ms reported the loca on of the crime as Residence/Home. Five percent of the vic ms had this offense commi ed against them at the Highway/Roadway/Alley loca on.

ANALYSIS
VOLUMEThe number of vic ms reported for CSC ‐ 3rd Degree, Sexual Penetra on ‐ Penis/Vagina was 1,132. This is a reported increase of 12 percent from 2014.
More vic ms were reported in the month of May than any other month. The fewest number of vic ms was reported in December. The most vic ms were reported on Thursdays.
RATEThe crime rate for this offense in 2015 was 11 for every 100,000 persons, which is a reported increase of 10 percent from 2014.
CLEARANCESLaw enforcement agencies cleared 349 incidents by an arrest or excep onal clearance out of the 1,104 incidents that were reported. This is a reported 32 percent clearance rate.
VICTIM INFORMATIONMost of the vic ms (84 percent) did not receive any injury. There were 11 percent of vic ms who received Apparent Minor injuries and three percent received Possible Internal injuries.
Sixty‐three (63) percent of the vic ms did not have a weapon used against them. The most used weapon occurring 31 percent of the me was a Personal Weapon meaning hands, fists, feet, etc.
When reviewing the Vic m to Offender rela onships, 25 percent of the me, the vic m was an Acquaintance of the offender. With 18 percent of the vic ms, the Vic m to Offender rela onship was the Da ng (Boyfriend/Girlfriend) rela onship. Fi een (15) percent of the me, the vic m was a Friend of the offender.
The most reported loca on was a Residence/Home, which equates to 71 percent of the vic ms. The next highest percentage was a Highway/Road/Alley loca on at five percent.

DEFINITION
Criminal Sexual Conduct (CSC) 3rd Degree (MCL 750.520d) is the sexual intercourse of a person, forcibly and/or against that person's will; or, not forcibly or against the person's will where the vic m is incapable of giving consent because of his/her temporary or permanent mental or physical incapacity. Michigan collects the crime data for this offense based on the Federal Bureau of Inves ga on's Na onal Incident Based Repor ng System (NIBRS). Note: CSC 1st and 3rd are differen ated by the weapon involved
and the degree of the vic m injury.
ANALYSIS
VOLUMEThe number of vic ms reported for CSC ‐ 3rd Degree, Sexual Penetra on‐Oral/Anal was 472. This is a reported increase of 12 percent from 2014.
More vic ms were reported in the month of March than any other month. The fewest number of vic ms were reported in April. These crimes occurred most o en on Mondays.
RATEThe crime rate for this offense in 2015 was five for every 100,000 persons, which is a reported increase of 25 percent from 2014.
CLEARANCESLaw enforcement agencies cleared 133 incidents by an arrest or excep onal clearance out of the 437 incidents that were reported. This is a reported 30 percent clearance rate.
VICTIM INFORMATIONMost of the vic ms (86 percent) did not receive any injury. There were 11 percent of vic ms who received Apparent Minor injuries and three percent received Possible Internal injuries.
Sixty (60) percent of the vic ms did not have a weapon used against them. The most used weapon occurring 32 percent of the me was a Personal Weapon meaning hands, fists, feet, etc.
When reviewing the Vic m to Offender rela onships, 21 percent of the me, the vic m was an Acquaintance of the offender. With 16 percent of the vic ms, the Vic m to Offender rela onship was Otherwise Known. Fi een (15) percent of the
me, the vic m was a Friend of the offender.
The most reported loca on was a Residence/Home, which equates to 64 percent of the vic ms. The next highest percentage was a Jail/Prison loca on at six percent.

CLEARANCESLaw enforcement agencies cleared 93 incidents by an arrest or excep onal clearance out of the 338 incidents that were reported. This is a reported 28 percent clearance rate.
VICTIM INFORMATIONMost of the vic ms (78 percent) did not receive any injury. There were 14 percent of vic ms who received Apparent Minor Injuries and eight percent received Possible Internal injuries.
Forty‐seven (47) percent of the vic ms did not have a weapon used against them. The most used weapon occurring 41 percent of the me was a Personal Weapon meaning hands, fists, feet, etc.
When reviewing the Vic m to Offender rela onships, 18 percent of the me, the vic m was an Acquaintance of the offender. With 14 percent of the vic ms, the Vic m to Offender rela onship was the Child of the offender. Thirteen (13) percent of the me, the rela onship was Otherwise Known.
The most reported loca on was a Residence/Home, which equates to 82 percent of the vic ms. The next highest percentage was a Highway/Road/Alley loca on at three percent.
