MONTREAL - - The Habs are not the only Montrealers celebrating these days. The people who organized ExpoCam, which ran from April 16 to 18 at Place Bonaventure, have just now reported the official results of the show and they couldn’t be happier. “Another successful ExpoCam is in the books,” says Joe Glionna, Vice President and General Manager of Newcom Business Media, which owns ExpoCam. (Newcom also publishes Today’s Trucking, Transport Routier, Truck News, Truck West, Fleet Executive and their attendant websites.) Official ExpoCam attendance clocked in at 14, 813. “We saw exhibitors invest a lot more in their booths with some terrific displays, cocktail receptions, and special guests,” Glionna says. “Thursday and Friday had just under 5,000 visitors, the second highest total ever. Saturday’s ‘family day’ was packed and exhibitors were running out of pens and hats.” More than 20 carriers took advantage of the job pavilion to recruit drivers, and many of the exhibitors took advantage of the business centers. On April 18, trucking veteran Guy Broderick, a driver with APPS Transport, was crowned Highway Star of the year. The award’s prizes include $10,000 in cash, provided by Newcom, Freightliner, Meritor, Espar, Cummins, Chevron and the Owner-Operator’s Association of Canada. The show also attracted some big new product announcements from the likes of International Trucks and Michelin tires. Among the biggest new product announcements at ExpoCam were International’s ProStar ES 110, a truck spec’d specifically for the Canadian market and one that answers the common need here to operate at a 110,000-lb gross weight rating, as opposed to 80,000; and Uniroyal’s new affordable tire line. Added Glionna: “We are looking forward to Truck World April 14-16 next year in Toronto.” Truck and Trailer and Today’s Trucking magazine co-sponsor many of the summer trucking events and distribute additional copies to the participants and attendees.
