Global Business Case Competition GBCC MANAGERS 2015 About GBCC For the past sixteen years, the undergraduate Global Business Case Competition has been one of the flagship international events of the Foster School. Twelve teams of four undergraduate students each are invited from top business schools around the world for a week of cross-cultural interaction, business education, leadership development, and an intense 48-hour case analysis that culminates in a competition to present the best solution to a panel of corporate judges. A faculty advisor accompanies each team. The event is managed by a steering committee comprised of Foster School faculty, Global Business Center and CISB staff, and two undergraduate student co-chairs. A core group of undergraduate student leaders and volunteers work in concert with the steering committee to implement the numerous activities that comprise this weeklong event. It is entirely funded by corporate sponsors solicited by the Foster School External Relations Office and the Global Business Center. What Does a Management Role Involve? Depending on the role you choose, your level of involvement will vary. Volunteers in management roles should expect the following general minimum commitments: - Individual and group training sessions - Weekly individual and group meetings - Ongoing steering committee meetings - Various project work in Winter quarter - Participation in several of the week’s activities (April 13-18 ) - Awareness of the big picture and attention to detail - Meeting deadlines and budget objectives established by the steering committee

GBCC Managers DescriptionsAmbassador Manager (2 students) Recruiting, training, and managing 12 student ambassadors who will be assigned to participating teams. Developing and implementing regular ambassador meetings, and setting up and managing airport pickup action plan.

Activities Manager (2 students) Managing activities of the week. Tentative events are informal arrival night gatherings, welcome breakfast, middle school visit, boat cruise, campus and city tour, awards banquet, and Dean’s Roundtable. Some of the tasks may include site/vendor coordination, transportation, program/agenda for events, registration, and event setup.

Competition Manager (1 student) Managing the competition day including recruiting/managing/ scheduling volunteers to act as door monitors/timekeepers/mc’s/team guides, selecting practice/presentation rooms, lunch set-up/clean-up, signage, and competition schedule.

Social Media/PR Manager (1 student) Generating interest within Foster School, greater UW campus, and Puget Sound community; managing Social Networking and Online presence, conducting promotional campaign to increase attendance at final round of competition; capturing memories during GBCC and creating the Welcome Packets.

Why Get Involved?Each year more than 60 undergraduate business students volunteer to support the Global Business Case Competition. The benefits of getting involved include:

- Acquire practical skills that will help build your resume and contribute to your future career potential

- Establish network with business community members - Meet and make friends with you peers from around the world. They could be

your future business partners!- Hands-on practical application of the skills provided in the training- Inclusion of your resume in the resume book that is sent to corporate

sponsors and judges after the event- Work closely with your fellow business school students - Team-building opportunities- Attend a two-part Leadership and Project Management Training- Participate in a fun-filled event week- Opportunity to practice a foreign language- Educate people about the Foster School, Seattle, and the U.S. - Act as hosts to show the positive side of American culture and the UW- Assist in creating more international opportunities for UW students- Volunteer hours to fulfill the CISB requirements- Being part of the decision-making process with UW Faculty and Staff
