PROJECT: “Support for the Education of 30 Young Girls at St. Teresa Kehancha Girls Secondary School”

I. BACKGROUNDINFORMATIONIn School Year 2015, the PROJECT: “Support for the Education of 30

Young Girls at St. Teresa Kehancha Girls Secondary School” has been inoperation for the last four (4) yearspromotingAcademicachievements to the school.Co-curricularactivitieswerealsoconductedwiththesupportoftheprogrampromotingbroad participations from the student-scholars in 2015. The fund support for the 30AcademicScholarsin2015servedasgreathelpfortheschooltoimplementnecessaryprograms.

The results of the KCSE exam of our Form 4s scholar earned yet again new

graduatesinsecondarylevelofeducation.Thesegraduateshadnowbetterchancesforhigher education. All three Form 4s scholars namely, Janerose Nasambu, Janet RobiMabohe and Emily Robi passed the National exam also known as KCSE or KenyaCertificateofSecondaryEducation.

For the year2016, St. TeresaKehanchaGirls Secondary School adaptedanew

structureandnewmanagement.TheschoolisnowjointlymanagedbytheSFICSistersandtheParishPastoralCouncil.Sr.EvelindaisnowthenewPrincipalrepresentingtheSFIC Kenya Mission Board and Mr. John Mangenyi, the chairperson of the ParishPastoralCouncilisthenewschoolAdministrator.(PleaserefertoournewOrganogram,Annex#1).

Thenewmanagementalsoinitiatedseveralincomegeneratingactivitiessuchas

keeping dairy cows and goats in partnership with the PTA (Parents-TeachersAssociation). The school will also ventures on poultry raising of free range nativechickens and vegetables mass productions establishing a kitchen-garden connectionfurtheraimingofsupplyingfoodforthestudents’consumption.Theseeffortsarebeingcomplimented by the school curriculum focusing on sustainable agriculture. Studentswereencouraged to take subjectsonAgricultureanddevelopappropriateagriculturaltechnologyandfoodsecuritypromotingactivities.(SeeAnnex#2)

sustainableagriculture foragricultural technologydevelopmentand foodsecurity.Weare therefore requesting you to kindly study the possibilities of supporting us in our“Drip-irrigation and green house vegetable production project”. The newAdministrationofSt.Teresa’shasmobilizedwatersourcesystemintheformofanewborehole that can irrigate enough portion of land for mass vegetables for students’consumption(SeeAnnex#3).SubscribingtoPopeFrancis’Encyclical,“LaudatoSi,CareforourCommonHome”greenprojectsatSt.TeresaKehanchaGirlsSecondarySchoolwillbeoneofthebestwaystocareforMotherEarthandinturnMotherEarthtocareforus.

II. 2015SIGNIFICANTEVENTSOFST.TERESA’S

a. Students’milestonesin2015

Someoftheacademicandco-curricularactivitiesparticipatedinbythestudentsofSt. Teresa in 2015. Some of the achievers were the academic scholars of MOKKStichting.

DuringtheDistrictCongressonScienceandTechnologyheld inMarch2015 inTaranganyaHighSchool,fourSTKGSSstudentstookfirstpositionsintheircomputerprojectandrepresentedtheDistrictat theMigoriCountyStudentsCongress.Theywere Janet Robi, CatherineWanjiru, BrendaGhati and Abigail Elias. They earnedposition4,hencedidnotproceedtoRegionallevel. Inathletics, JudithMariba,Form2,MOKKacademicscholartook1stposition inboth 100m and 200m. She represented KuriaWest District at theMigori CountySportsChampionshipswhereshetookposition3. InMusic festivals: Soloverses inKiswahili;ChristineMatinde,EuphraciaNdege(another academic scholar)won position 1 in their respective category. While inEnglish language category; Petronella Ajino and Euphracia Ndege (both MOKKscholars)alsowonandwenttocountylevelcompetitions. HappinessGhati,EuphraciaNdege,PetronellaAjinuandAshaBandioMakarangaalso represented the school in an Interfaith Youth Forum on Environment andPeaceheldattheCatholicUniversityofEasternAfricainNairobion9thand10thofOctober 2015. The Forum started with tree plantings on the vast ground of theuniversity.ThesaidForumprovidedadeepanalysisontheyouthradicalizationandhow to avoid victimization by radical groups and terrorists. It was attended byparticipantscomingfromEastAfricancountrieswithresourcepersonsfromseveralForeign Embassies in Kenya. The said forumwas re-echoed to the students of St.Teresa’s.

It is tobenoted thatmajorityof thestudentsprefects/leadersof2015were fromtheMOKKStichtingScholarshipbody.

b. PTAandParents’participation

A more active participation of the scholars’ parents and guardians had beenestablished in 2015. We can now capitalized on parents’ clear understanding oftheirprimaryroleineducatingtheirchildrenasacademicscholarsundertheMOKKStichting-SFIC Kenya Mission Scholarship Program for St. Teresa Kehancha GirlsSecondarySchool.

ThePTAofSTKGSSon thebroader level,embarkedalsoonsignificantprojectssuch as provision of 2 dairy cows for the school’s sustainable agriculture projectwithinthe2016schoolyearandtheconstructionofteachershousingunitwithinthecompoundofSt.TeresatohousetheschoolDormMaster.(SeeAnnex#4)

c. STKGSS15thYearAnniversaryCelebration

St. Teresa’s celebrated her 15th Foundation Anniversary on 1st October 2015.

The schoolwas foundedby the late Fr.Angelo Insam,aMillHillmissionarypriestfromItalywiththeParishPastoralCouncilofKehanchaheadedbyMr.SimionTaragaMonchenain1998-1999.Theschoolwasopenin2000andfirmlyestablishedunderthehelmofSr.MellyFrondarina,SFICwiththestrongadvocacyfortheeducationofthegirl-childofKuriatribe.

This year’s celebration was marked by a good attendance of Alumnae whodecidedtoformtheirassociationtosupportthemselvesandsomeschool’sactivitiesinthefuture.

Tostartwith,theSt.TeresaAlumnaeAssociationdonatedasetofKCSERevision books tobeusedbytheForm4studentsinpreparationfortheirgovernmentexamsin October2016. Other futureprojects for the schoolarewithin theplanof thisgroup. ThisinitiativewasveryinspiringtothecurrentstudentsofSt.Teresa.

IV. ST.TERESA’SNEWMANAGEMENTANDSTRUCTUREFORSCHOOLYEAR2016

For School Year 2016, St. Teresa operates in new management and new Structure,hence, a modified strategic plan is being implemented for this year. An assessment-evaluation was conducted in early December 2015 by the school’s Board ofManagement resulted to the vital decision of having a newmanagementwith a newfocusincurriculumdevelopmentandstreamliningofpersonnel.Mission-orientedandprofessionalpersonnelwillnowbeengagedinanEmploymentContract.St. Teresa also strengthens her structural relationship with the Diocesan EducationalCommitteeandwithotherCatholicownedandrunschools.a. STKGSSOrganogram(SeeAnnex1)

This Organogram of Organizational Structurewas presented and approved by thestakeholders.

b. STKGSSNewFeeStructure(SeeAnnex5)Anew Fee Structurewas also deliberated and approvedby the Parents Teachers’AssociationPTAofSt.TeresaKehanchaGirlsSecondarySchool.Thedeliberatedfeewas within the range of approved fee by the Government of Kenya for PrivateSchool/Institutions.
