Amy Fuller Kearney enters her 14th season at the helm of the UCLA women’s rowing program in 2014-15 and has established the Bruins as a consistent national competitor. After making a successful transition from a club team to a varsity program in 2001-02, UCLA earned its first-ever team bid to the NCAA Championships in 2010. The Bruins have advanced to the NCAA Championships each of the past three seasons – 2012, 2013 and 2014.

The last three years have produced consistently top marks and strong results for the UCLA women’s rowing program. In addition to three consecutive team appearances at NCAA Championships, UCLA has routinely been ranked among the nation’s top 15 programs on the weekly CRCA collegiate polls. The Bruins have finished as high as third at Pac-12 Championships (2012) and have competed with resounding success at national events such as the San Diego Crew Classic and the Clemson Invitational.

Most recently, UCLA finished 12th overall at the 2014 NCAA Championships, with the team’s second varsity eight finishing second in the Petite Final (eighth overall). The Bruins’ varsity eight crew advanced to the Grand Final at the San Diego Crew Classic and won each of its three races against the nation’s top competitors at the Clemson Invitational.

UCLA posted its two highest team finishes at the NCAA Championships in back-to-back seasons. The Bruins finished eighth in 2012 and were ninth in 2013. UCLA’s varsity eight crew finished first in the Petite Final (places 7-12) at each of those two NCAA Championships. Britta Syverson capped her four-year career in 2013 by becoming UCLA’s second three-time All-America selection, along with Vanessa Teff.

The Bruins’ 2012 squad not only secured the program’s best-ever finish at NCAA Championships (eighth), but also raced to a third-place team finish at Pac-12 Championships, the highest such finish of any UCLA team at the season-culminating event. Not only did UCLA’s varsity eight finish first in the Petite Final at NCAA Championships, but the Bruins’ second varsity eight finished sixth in the Grand Final, and the varsity four was first in the Petite Final.

Fuller Kearney helped UCLA break into its first-ever NCAA Championships as a team in 2010, when the Bruins finished 12th overall at the national event. UCLA’s eight finished ninth at the 2010 NCAA Championships, placing higher than any Pac-12 program in the Petite Final.

UCLA’s previous NCAA Championship appearances included varsity eight at-large selections in 2005, 2006 and 2007. The eight crew’s highest finish in that three-year span was a 12th-place finish in 2006.

Fuller Kearney led the Bruins’ top two varsity eights to the Pac-10 Championship Grand Final from 2004 through 2007. UCLA’s second varsity eight won the silver medal in 2005 and 2006 at the Pac-10 Championships.

Over the last seven seasons, Fuller Kearney has guided UCLA to a consistent place in the national rankings. UCLA has secured a ranking as high as No. 3 in 2012, No. 5 in 2013, No. 9 in 2014, No. 11 in 2010, No. 13 in 2008 and 2009, and No. 17 in 2011. Most recently, the Bruins finished the 2014 campaign ranked No. 12 in the CRCA national poll.

Upon conclusion of the 2009 season, UCLA’s Vanessa Teff was honored as an All-Pac-10 selection for the fourth consecutive season, becoming the first women’s rower in program history to accomplish that feat. In addition, Teff secured CRCA All-West Region honors.

UCLA’s 2007 team earned an at-large varsity eight bid to NCAA Championships, where they finished 14th overall. The Bruins helped earn the at-large entry after finishing fourth overall at Pac-10 Championships in May.

In 2006, the varsity eight raced to a 12th-place finish as an at-large selection to the NCAA Championships. Racing at the 2006 San Diego Crew Classic, UCLA advanced to the Grand Final in all three events and finished fifth in the varsity eight race.

The Bruins made history in 2005, sending their first-ever varsity eight to NCAA Championships as an at-large bid. The Bruins’ crew finished 15th overall. Earlier that season, UCLA

advanced to the Grand Final in each event at Pac-10 Championships. The first eight raced to a top-16 ranking and an at-large invite to the NCAA Championships for the first time in program history. The second eight made history, bringing home a silver medal from the Pac-10 Championships, a first at UCLA since rowing was elevated to NCAA varsity status.

Named UCLA’s head coach on July 2, 2001 – the sport’s inaugural NCAA season – Fuller Kearney came to Westwood after having served one year as assistant coach for the Stanford women’s crew program (2000-01). At Stanford, she guided the Cardinal to its first top-20 national ranking in the program’s NCAA history.

Prior to serving as assistant coach at Stanford, Fuller Kearney was an assistant coach at San Diego State for two years (1998-2000). She worked with the Aztecs while training for the 2000 Olympics with the U.S. National Team. Fuller Kearney has also spent time working as an assistant coach at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga (1996-98) and for the U.S. National Team (1997).

From 1993-96, Fuller Kearney served as a motivational speaker for Champion International, a U.S. Rowing sponsor. She began her coaching career at UC Santa Barbara, her alma mater. From 1990-91, she led the women’s novice program. Two years later, from 1992-93, she was the head coach of the women’s team.

A three-time Olympian and world record holder, Fuller Kearney has accrued a strong national and international rowing background. In 1993, she earned U.S. Rowing Female Athlete of the

Year honors. Two years later, she was a finalist for the Sullivan Award, presented annually to the nation’s top amateur athlete. She spent the fall and winter of 1995 competing with the America’s Cup Syndicate, America 3. She was a member of the first ever all-women’s team to challenge for the America’s Cup.

As a starboard aft grinder, Fuller Kearney used her strength and endurance to earn a starting spot among the world’s top female sailors. In the spring and summer, Fuller Kearney again turned her focus to rowing and helped the women’s eight to a World Championship in Tampere, Finland.

Fuller Kearney earned trips to the Olympics in 1992, 1996, and 2000. In 1992, she brought home a silver medal in the Women’s 4-. In 1996 and 2000, she placed in the top 6 in the Women’s 8+.

Additionally, Fuller Kearney has competed in eight World Championships, earning one gold medal and six silver medals (1989, 1991, 1993-94, 1997-98 and 1999). An extension of Fuller Kearney’s international experience includes the Goodwill Games, the Lucerne International Regatta, and the Henley Royal Regatta. At the 1994 Goodwill Games, her women’s 8+ team captured the bronze. Competing at the Lucerne International Regatta (1991, 1994-96 and 1998), she brought home five medals - three gold, one silver, and one bronze. At the 1998 Henley Royal Regatta, Fuller Kearney added another gold medal.

Fuller Kearney continued her rowing success at the C.R.A.S.H. B Sprints. She was the 2000 and 2001 World Record holder on the rowing

ergometer and placed first for open women. On the national level, Fuller Kearney rowed for the U.S. National Team for 11 years (1989, 1991-2000). During this era, she recorded 12 gold medals, two silver and one bronze.

As a sophomore at UC Santa Barbara, Fuller Kearney discovered a passion for rowing. She later earned one gold medal and one bronze medal on the collegiate national level. In 1990, she was honored with the school’s Associated Students Athlete of the Year Award. In 2006, Fuller Kearney was an inaugural inductee into the UC Santa Barbara Recreational Sports Hall of Fame.

A Westlake Village, Calif., native who prepped at Westlake High School, Fuller Kearney graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 1990 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She earned her masters degree in education from University of Tennessee, Chattanooga in 1998.

Justin Price has spent five seasons coaching the UCLA women’s rowing team, most recently concluding his first year as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator (2013-14). Through five seasons with the program, Price’s work has been instrumental with the development of UCLA’s varsity four and novice rowers.

Price has worked with the varsity four the last two years (2012-13, 2013-14). He coordinates all aspects of the Bruins’ recruiting efforts, including talent identification and development. In his first three seasons with the program, Price worked primarily to identify and develop UCLA’s walk-on student-athletes.

Price spent the summer of 2013 representing the United States as the coach of the Under-23 men’s coxed four that finished eighth at the Under-23 World Championships in Linz, Austria. In 2013, he also served as the head men’s coach at the Pennsylvania Athletic Club, where he led the team to a club national championship in the Senior 4- at the United States Club Nationals and led the team to second-place finishes in the championship eight and championship pair at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.

Price rowed for the UCLA men’s team before graduating in 2006. Prior to arriving at UCLA in the summer of 2009, he spent the three seasons as an assistant coach with the men’s rowing program at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

Over the last two seasons, Price’s efforts with the varsity four crews have been instrumental to UCLA’s overall success. The Bruins advanced as a team to NCAA Championships in 2012, 2013 and 2014. The Bruins’ varsity four crew finished third in the Grand Final at the San Diego Crew Classic and secured a 15th-place finish at the NCAA Championships in 2014.

In 2013, UCLA’s varsity four had a strong season, highlighted by a second-place finish at Pac-12 Championships, marking UCLA’s best finish in that event since the program’s return to varsity status in 2001-02. The varsity also secured a pair of first-place finishes against nationally-ranked competition at the Clemson Invitational in 2013 including a won over No. 3-ranked Virginia. In addition, UCLA’s varsity four finished second in the Grand Final race at the San Diego Crew Classic and finished 13th overall at the 2013 NCAA Championships.

VICTORIABURKEASSISTANT COACH3rd SeasonVirginia ’09

Victoria Burke enters her third season as an assistant women’s rowing coach at UCLA. She joined the staff on a full-time basis in July 2012 and oversees UCLA’s novice rowers and assists with recruiting efforts.

In the past two seasons, Burke’s work with the novice crews have been instrumental. UCLA’s novice eight earned consecutive third-place finishes in the Grand Final at the San Diego Crew Classic in 2013 and 2014. UCLA’s novice crew closed the 2014 spring season with a second-place finish at the Pac-12 Championships.

Burke arrived at UCLA after having worked as an assistant coach at her alma mater, the University of Virginia, during the 2011-12 school year and helped the Cavaliers win their second consecutive NCAA Division I Championship.

As a student-athlete at Virginia, Burke competed in three NCAA Championships, leading the varsity eight to a second-place finish in June 2009 and winning the NCAA Division I Team title in 2010.

In 2012, Price worked with novice crews that earned multiple victories. UCLA’s novice eight finished second at Pac-12 Championships, helping the team earn a third-place finish, UCLA’s highest since the program was elevated to varsity status. The novice eight bested USC’s crew at the annual crosstown race by more than 35 seconds. In addition, the Bruins’ novice eight finished second in its Grand Final at the San Diego Crew Classic.

In 2010, Price helped lead the novice crew to multiple victories. After opening the spring season with convincing dual-meet wins over local foes Loyola Marymount and San Diego State, the novice eight earned a second-place finish in the Grand Final of the San Diego Crew Classic. The novice eight defeated Notre Dame in the afternoon portion of the SoCal Challenge and bested crosstown rival USC in the annual dual-meet showdown.

Price served as the freshman/novice coach for the men’s rowing program at Notre Dame from 2005-2008, working primarily with walk-on athletes. He helped lead the Notre Dame novice crews to their best finishes in program history.

During the 2007-08 season at Notre Dame, Price coached two national championship novice crews as his student-athletes won both the novice eight and novice lightweight four at the American Collegiate Rowing Association’s (ACRA) National Championship Regatta. Price’s crews finished third overall in the team points competition at the 2008 ACRA Regatta.

Price led Notre Dame to similar success in 2008-09. That year, he recruited the largest group of freshman/novice athletes in team history and coached three novice eights. Price’s novice rowers showcased their depth at the 2009 ACRA Regatta, leading the Fighting Irish to a second place finish in the overall team points competition. The novice lightweight four won the event for the second consecutive year, the first novice eight finished in third place and the second novice eight finished second.

Price spent four years (2003-06) rowing in UCLA’s men’s program. As a Bruin oarsman, he stroked the novice eight as a freshman and rowed in the varsity eight his final three seasons. In 2006, Price earned the bronze medal rowing in the men’s varsity four at the Pac-10 Championships. He received the Coach’s Award for his performance and leadership in 2004-05. In addition, Price was a three-time Pac-10 All-Academic Team selection – first team (2005, 2006) and honorable mention (2004).

Price graduated from UCLA in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He earned his law degree (J.D.) from the University of Notre Dame in 2009 and is a member of the California State Bar.

At the elite level, Burke has spent the past five summers rowing at GMS in Connecticut, medaling in several national regattas. Her international results include winning the silver medal at the 2009 U-23 World Championships in the Lightweight Women’s Quad and winning the gold medal in the Lightweight Women’s Single at the 2009 SilverSkiff Regatta in Turin, Italy.

Burke won the silver medal at the 2010 Senior World Championships in New Zealand, competing in the Lightweight Women’s Quad.

Burke also served as an assistant coach for the U.S. U-23 Lightweight Women’s Quad in the summer of 2012, overseeing a team that competed in Trakai, Lithuania at the 2012 U-23 World Rowing Championships. UCLA junior Carolina Paini was one of the competitors on that crew that Burke coached that summer.

Burke graduated with a bachelor’s degree in art history and a minor in Italian from the University of Virginia in 2009 and competed for Saugatuck Rowing Club.

ABOUT THE PAC-12 CONFERENCEBuilt on a firm foundation of academic excellence and superior athletic performance, the Conference ushered in a new era on July 1, 2011, officially becoming the Pac-12 Conference with the addition of the University of Colorado and University of Utah.

Just 27 days after the Conference officially changed its name, Commissioner Larry Scott announced the creation of the Pac-12 Networks on July 27, 2011, solidifying a landmark television deal and putting the Conference on the forefront. The Networks, including one national network and six regional networks, in conjunction with four of the nation’s largest cable operators, marked the first time a U.S. collegiate conference or any other programmer has launched a collection of networks across a variety of platforms, rather than a sole network. In addition, the creation of this television network has allowed fans to access coverage outside the home on any digital device, including smartphones and tablet computers.

On the field, the Pac-12 rises above the rest, upholding its tradition as the “Conference of Champions” ®, claiming an incredible 131 NCAA team titles since 1999-2000, including 10 in 2013-14. That is an average of over nine championships per academic year. Even more impressive has been the breadth of the Pac-12’s

success, with championships coming in 28 different men’s and women’s sports. The Pac-12 has led or tied the nation in NCAA Championships in 48 of the last 54 years. The only exceptions being in 1980-81, 1988-89, 1990-91 and 1995-96 when the Conference finished second, and only twice finished third (1998-99 and 2004-05).

For the ninth straight year, the Pac-12 had the most NCAA titles or tied for the most of any conference in the country, winning at least six every year since 2000-01. No other conference has won double-digit NCAA crowns in a single year, the Pac-12 doing so seven times (a record 14 in 1996-97).

Spanning nearly a century of outstanding athletics achievements, the Pac-12 was the first conference to reach 400 championships in 2010-11. With the inclusion of Colorado and Utah, the Conference surpassed another major milestone, with league teams capturing 450 titles, outdistancing the next conference by nearly 200. In all, Conference teams have won 469 NCAA Championships (287 men’s, 154 women’s and 28 combined).

The Conference’s reputation is further proven in the annual Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup competition, the prestigious award that honors the best overall collegiate athletics programs in the country. Stanford continued its remarkable run and

won its unprecedented 20th-consecutive Directors’ Cup in 2013-14. Seven Pac-12 member institutions ranked among the top 27 Division I programs: (1) Stanford, (7) UCLA, (8) USC, (15) Oregon, (20) California, (26) Arizona and (27) Arizona State. At least five member institutions have been ranked in the top 20 in all but one year of the Director’s Cup program, with seven appearing in the top 20 on five different occasions (1998, 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2006).

The Pac-12 led all conferences with 10 NCAA titles in 2013-14, with the SEC coming in second (six NCAA titles including one shared crown in women’s gymnastics). The Big Ten tallied five titles in 2013-14, the ACC had four, and the Big 12 claimed two (including one shared title in women’s gymnastics). In addition to the 10 titles, Pac-12 teams recorded six runner-up finishes and at least one team placed in the top four in 22 championships. In eight championships, there were at least two teams among the final four, including in women’s water polo where all four were Pac-12 teams.

GENEBLOCKCHANCELLOR8th YearStanford ’70

Dr. Gene Block became chancellor of UCLA in August 2007 and enters his seventh year as the university’s chief executive officer. In his current capacity, Chancellor Block oversees all aspects of the university’s three-part mission of education, research and service.

A champion of public universities, Chancellor Block has set four major priorities for UCLA during his administration: academic excellence, diversity, civic engagement and financial security. He has called for UCLA to deepen its engagement with the Los Angeles region and to increase access for students from underrepresented populations.

Chancellor Block holds UCLA faculty appointments in psychiatry and bio-behavioral sciences in the David Geffen School of Medicine and in physiological science in the College of Letters and Science. He also heads a research laboratory on campus that is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Previously, he served as vice president and provost of the University of Virginia. He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Stanford University and a master’s and Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Oregon.

Chancellor Block and his wife, Carol, have two adult children. The Blocks are avid Bruin fans and attend the competitions of various Bruin athletic programs.

DANGUERREROATHLETIC DIRECTOR13th YearUCLA ’74

In 12 years, Dan Guerrero has clearly established a pattern of “image and substance” that few in his profession can match. UCLA has won 111 NCAA team championships, a figure unmatched by any institution in the nation. UCLA teams have won 25 NCAA championships since his appointment, another national leader, finished second 23 times and have enjoyed an additional 46 Top Five finishes.

More than 80 percent of UCLA teams have qualified for NCAA postseason competition since 2002. The football team has appeared in 10 bowl games and the men’s basketball team advanced to consecutive Final Fours from 2006-08. The program has also won 56 conference championships in 15 different sports, produced nearly 600 All-America selections and featured six Honda Award winners, including the 2003-04 Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year.

Furthermore, during the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, 32 Bruins participated as athletes or coaches, representing the United States and eight other nations. They won nine medals, including six golds.

In the last 12 years, UCLA has finished second three times (2007-08, 2006-07 and 2005-06), third four times (2004-05, 2003-04, 2011-12, 2012-13), fourth (2009-10), sixth (2002-03), seventh (2013-14), 11th (2010-11) and 16th (2008-09) in the race for the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup.

In 2013, UCLA won its first Capital One Cup for men’s sports, vaulting to the top of the standings after the baseball team won the College World Series.

In claiming UCLA’s first women’s soccer championship in 2013-14, the Bruins now have at least one NCAA crown in 18 different sports. During the 2013-14 season, four other UCLA teams finished among the top five nationally – women’s water polo (2nd), women’s golf (3rd), men’s tennis (T-3rd) and men’s golf (T-5th). Additionally, the football team defeated USC for the second straight year, posted a 10-3 record and won the Hyundai Sun Bowl while men’s basketball won 28 games, captured the Pac-12 Tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.

Guerrero, recently named the 2014 NACDA Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year award, is the only athletic director at the NCAA Division I level (FBS, FCS and NCAA Division I-AAA) to earn three such awards (2006-07 at UCLA, 2001-02 at UC Irvine). During Guerrero’s tenure, UCLA teams have captured the following NCAA team titles: six in women’s water polo, three each in women’s softball and women’s gymnastics, two in women’s golf and women’s tennis, and one each in women’s soccer, men’s tennis, men’s volleyball, women’s volleyball, men’s water polo, men’s golf, men’s soccer, women’s outdoor track and baseball.

While success on the playing field with 25 NCAA Championships in 14 different sports and 23 second-place finishes during his tenure are extraordinary numbers, UCLA’s academic success under Guerrero is equally noteworthy. Over 12 years and 36 quarters, student-athletes have earned more than 7,700 spots on the Director’s Honor Roll.

Guerrero came to UCLA from UC Irvine, where he had served as UCI’s fi fth permanent Director of Athletics for 10 years (1992-2002), helping to elevate that program to unprecedented success. Prior to arriving at UCI, Guerrero worked at Cal State Dominguez Hills, where he led that program to national prominence while serving as Athletic Director for five years (1988-92).

A proud alumnus of UCLA, Guerrero received his Bachelor’s degree from the University in 1974 and played second base for the Bruins for four years. Known as “Warrior” during his playing career, he was inducted into the UCLA Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996. The Bruin Athletic Director earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration in 1982 from Cal State Dominguez Hills and was named to the Pi Alpha Alpha Honor Society for Public Affairs and Public Policy that same year.

Guerrero was raised in Wilmington, Calif. He is married to the former Anne Marie Aniello, and they have two grown daughters.
