From the Director’s Desk...

The mantra of our School is to initiate holistic development. Great educationists and saints have advocated that unfurling the latent, inherent talents of an individual and harnessing it to enhance the mental, physical and emotional quotient of a child is the need of the hour. We tirelessly strive to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of every child to grow and reach out for the stars.

Dialogue - 2015

VIS has been ranked 2nd in West Delhi by

Times of India School Survey 2015

VIS offers world-class infrastructure, unmatched academic environment, innovative teaching techniques, dedicated personalized care and opportunities for a lifetime of learning. The school believes in broadening horizons, encouraging out of the box thinking and problem solving skills, right at the initial years. We motivate students to dream and aspire for the very best in the world and be the agents of change and progress in the years to come.

With the foresight into the skills required for the world of tomorrow, the ambience of VIS is focussed towards moulding all rounders, multi-taskers, trendsetters, go-getters, well groomed personalities with a vision. In brief, be LEADERS in whatever they do.

I have been given the unique opportunity to guide, motivate and mentor the children to become academically better students, better sons and daughters, better sports persons, better musicians, better dancers, better artists and most importantly BETTER HUMAN BEINGS. Partnership of parents with the school in following this mantra is most significant to make this journey in school beautiful and poignant.Together let’s make the difference.

02

The actual fulfillment of education is the holistic development of an individual traversing body, mind and soul. In the era of Globalisation and development, the young generation should be mentally strong and socially responsible too. And this is what we constantly endeavour to achieve in VIS through a strong value education programme. We firm-ly believe that education should help cultivate true human beings with sound ethical and moral values which will help them find solutions to the challenges of life.

Comprehensive character building education programme coupled with motivational workshops and activities held regularly in the school aim towards sensitizing the young minds in the best possible man-ner. Thus, we strive to create an exemplary teaching learning environ-ment which nurtures the child and echoes the powerful thoughts of Swami Vivekananda, “the end of all education, all training, should be man-making.” “Education is the manifestation of the perfection already in man”. VIS will constantly strive in the pursuit of this noble thought.

This was a part of cultural exchange between Indian and Dutch communities, an yearly event since the year 2008. The visitors appreciated the traditional welcome we had extended to them. They were given a brief familiarization about India regarding Indian Economy, Indian food; Indian dances etc through sublime presentations made by the students of classes XI and XII. They had immense fun, shaking their feet to Indian tunes and also learnt to make Rangolis.

On the second day, the guests witnessed an assembly presented by the middle school which carried them through the remarkable journey of VIS, from its inception to its metamorphosis into a premier institution of education followed by a visual treat of Indian folk dances. Together the VIS and Dutch students spent an interactive session in the Art Room where they reinforced their mutual ties through messages on Friendship Trees. They were taken around the entire school premises which they found tremendously beautiful and captivating. It was a scintillating experience for everyone.

VIS is always in the forefront for taking social initiatives. One such step, in tune with our Hon’ble Prime Minister Mr. Narender Modi’s call for DIGITAL INDIA is the Buzz IT initiative i.e. making the helpers, drivers, maids and assistants tech friendly. It is a community driven initiative under taken by VIS students. With this project, we are aiming to make the helpers and assistants of the organisation digitally literate citizens of the country. We are not only utilising the infrastructure and facilities but also motivating our students to be a part in nation building. A team of teachers and students organise very effective computer sessions on regular

basis for the maids, helpers and drivers after the school hours withwell defined curriculam. Kudos to the management, staff and students for such collaborative initiatives by which awareness and application can percolate to every level of avid learners.

They learnt how to minimize energy use, hence empowering them to make the changes necessary to be energy smart in the schools.During the very first session of ‘Conserve My Campus’ organised by the ‘Schneider Electric,’ a number of influencing presentations were shown to the children followed by a small ‘thumb print’ activity and words of inspiration from the organising authorities of Schneider Electric.Around 70 students from the school, the green ambassadors, were first shown inspiring videos as to teach them the importance of energy conservation and how they can contribute to a ‘better tomorrow.’ The first video showcased ‘In Diya’ which is a innovative product initiative taken by Schneider so as to provide energy savers and lights in the villages of India. The second video showcased how we can help save energy at an individual level- by switching off appliances when not in use, keeping a regular check on the metre, spreading awareness about this nation-wide issue, etc. This was an enriching experience for all the green ambassadors and their active participation very clearly depicted their enthusiasm and excitement towards Saving the Planet Earth.

On 19 August 2015, students of the School visited a NGO – Utthan, which support and educate children who were found doing child labour. It is located in the narrow congested lanes of Old Delhi. After beingwelcomed warmly by the teachers and children the manager Ms Charu Sethi told us how this NGO was set up. She also brought to light, a shocking revelation on Drug Abuse. “Drug abuse is the hidden root cause for most cases of child labour in such areas.” After setting up the NGO it wasnoticed that a lot of children who came for tuition or other classes were school dropouts. The concerned team did case studies on such children and their families. In

the end, it was concluded that 60%-70% of the children had dropped out of school because their fathers were addicted to drugs and they used to beat their mothers. Due to all the tensions in the family, the childrenhad to leave school.Afterthis, their mothers forced them to work as domestic helps, cleaners or sweepers to earn the livelihood.

Design For Change is an award winning global movement led by the children to bring about a change in the society headed by Rahul Bose (an actor and activist). The program also enhances confidence and self-belief among children. Students move from a mindset of “CAN I?” to “I CAN”. People in Delhi nowadays just aren’t fit and healthy anymore. When we turn the pages of newspaper, we come across many cases of illnesses, deaths and many more mishaps due to dengue, malaria etc. So we the students and teachers of Venkateshwar International School (VIS), Sec-10, Dwarka, Delhi sat together to think about the sensitive issue of cleanliness and health that the people of lower income group faces. At VIS, we created a next-to-perfect plan to start our drive towards “safe and clean” environment for the under privileged people and following activities were undertaken.• CleanedtheareaofManglapuriSadhNagar–IIincludingthedrains and picked up the garbage as well.• VisitedtheMCDofficeandupdatedtheinformation.• Providedfreemedicalcamptotheresidentsfortwodayswiththe help of doctors.• PerformedNukkadNataktospreadtheawarenessofliving healthy and fit life.• Distributedbasicnecessitieslikeodomos, repellantcreams, biscuits, Horlicks, tooth paste, bursh & medicines etc. to poor and needy.

A sanctuary where we indulge in knowledge, And thrive under our mentors’ tutelage,

The mentors who leave no stone unturned, To help us excel in what we learn.

Our School is a building with tomorrow inside,It instills in us a sense of grandeur and pride.

Childhood memories are fragmentary without school,We discover friends’ even more precious than a jewel.

Where we learn to stand out, our minds nourishedTo lend a hand to others, our souls enriched.

Where creativity blossoms into a new creationCulminating in this century’s modernization.

‘What are dreams’ you ask?A visionary scheme or a perplex task

An anticipated state of happiness under a mask,The glow of success in which we wish to bask.

The dream to achieve milestones countless. To ascertain that nothing halts our progress,

To live a life where we never feel blue,This,my friends, is the place where dreams come true.
