BULBINE FRUTESCENS YELLOW Bulbine frutescens is a species of flowering plant in the genus Bulbine, native to southern Africa. Bulbine comes from the Greek word bolbine, a general word for a bulbous plant, but particularly Ornithogalum.

BULBINE NATALENSIS A stemless evergreen plant grow-ing to about 1 foot tall holding soft broad 8 inch long triangular bright green leaves with striations and broad channels. The lightly fra-grant starry yellow flowers rise 1-2 feet on in late winter and early summer with the stamen filaments having the fine yellow hairs. Plant in full sun to light shade with little to occasional irrigation and con-sidered drought tolerant once established. Hardy to at least –4ºC.

CALLA LILY PACIFIC PINK A stylish, deep pink flower with a lighter throat. Calla Lilies have elegant flower spires in bright, solid colours for summer gardens. They create bright, blocks of colour in beds and borders. They are also suitable for potting. Just make sure you don't let the pots dry out.

BULBINE FRUTESCENS ORANGE

CALLA LILY TREASURE Calla lily treasure boasts a striking warm orange glow with a subtle hint of a red blush towards the outer edges of the blooms. Won-derfully offset by lush green and white-specked foliage.

CORDYLINE AUSTRALIS C. australis is a small evergreen tree with several stout branches arising from a single trunk. Leaves long, sword-shaped, in dense clusters at the branch tips. Large panicles of small, fragrant cream flowers.

CALLA LILY WESTERN CAPE (AKA ARUM

LILY) is one of the world's most iconic and widely known plants. Not a lily at all but an aroid, with its brilliant white floral bract surrounding the central pale yellow floral spike bearing tiny flowers. All parts of the plant are poisonous, causing irritation and swelling of the mouth and acute gastric diarrhœa.

CHONDROPETALUM TECTORUM This plant takes its species name from the Latin word tectorum, meaning roofing, which probably refers to its use a thatching material. Chondropetalum is a member of the restio family from the Western Cape region of South Africa. Plants are tender and need a sheltered, well-drained spot in full sun to grow well. In the UK plants are not reliably hardy and should be grown in pots and taken into the shelter of a cool greenhouse. Water well dur-ing the growing season but keep plants on the dry side during the winter months. Remove any old shoots as they turn brown and wither but avoid any other trimming.

ARCHITECTURALARCHITECTURAL/4

CORDYLINE CHERRY SENSATION Known for its cherry pink leaves, which arch gracefully as the plant matures. It adds brilliant colour to mixed patio planters and brightens up the garden scene with all year round colour, particularly in win-ter.

CORDYLINE AUSTRALIS KASPER GREEN An attractive, low maintenance tree with broad, lime green foli-age. The single trunk branches into a multi-headed plant with age, and a mature plant can reach up to 2 metres in height.

CORDYLINE AUSTRALIS PARADISE Palm-like, sub-tropical tree that

grows with an upright habit, and will produce several heads with age. This cultivar has coral to salmon coloured leaves with bronze margins. Produces large panicles of small, sweet-scented flowers in late spring to summer. Best in full coastal sun to light shade - some shade protection necessary in hotter inland gardens. It is drought tolerant in coastal gardens but responds well to occasional to regular irrigation. Useful in dry gardens but also offers a tropical look. A great container plant.

CORDYLINE AUSTRALIS KIWI Cordyline Kiwi Dazzler is a striking variety with striped pink and copper hued foliage. Very attractive and a perfect centrepiece for a display.

CORDYLINE AUSTRALIS CORAL Tough and less likely to burn in the sun and discolour in the cold. Trunk decreases and elongates in size with age. Responds well to ground prun-ing.

CORDYLINE AUSTRALIS REDSTAR A good ingredient for a jungle or tropical-themed garden, the cabbage palm is a striking foliage plant with its long, thin, arching, bronze-red leaves. As a smaller cultivar of the species, it does particularly well in pots on a patio, though it can also be used as summer bedding around the likes of a taller, flamboyant clump of cannas. Since it isn't totally hardy, it must be kept in a frost-free place over winter. If being grown outside permanently, it needs to be planted in a sheltered hot spot in soil that drains freely. If outside, the plant will need some protection over winter, so wrap it up in fleece to protect it from frosts.

CORDYLINE AUSTRALIS SOUTHERN SPLENDOUR An evergreen palm-like tree with sword-shaped grey-green striped leaves, with pink margins.

CORDYLINE AUSTRALIS SUNRISE An erect, palm-like tree with arching, lance- to linear-shaped, dark pink leaves with bright pink margins. Under favourable conditions, pani-cles of creamy white flowers bloom in summer followed by white or blue-tinted berries.

CORDYLINE AUSTRALIS SUNDANCE An upright, evergreen, palm-like tree with terminal rosettes of sword-shaped, dark green leaves, turning red along the midrib.

CORDYLINE AUSTRALIS PURPLE TOWER Magnificent tropical plant for your garden. It´s a typical outdoor plant and requires little care. Very suita-ble for terraces and balconies and with its deep purple colour a true gem in your collection. CORDYLINE

AUSTRALIS RED SENSATION Fast growing woody plant that can be grown as a palm-like shrub or a small tree. Its nar-row, sword-like upper leaves remain erect while the lower leaves in the tip cluster droop. Panicles of fragrant white flowers appear in late spring, followed by small white or blue fruits.

CORDYLINE AUSTRALIS PURPLE SENSATION Handsome plant forming an upright clump of long, sword-shaped, rosy purple with a bold racing stripe of bright pink.

CORDYLINE AUSTRALIS PINK CHAMPAGNE Ideal patio and conservatory shrub. An attractive and exotic evergreen shrub with promi-nent pink basal mid-ribs and pale green leaves striped with white. Compact habit.

DIETES GRANDI-FLORA This well known large wild iris, indighenous to South Africa, is commonly grown in gardens and used in large landscapes throughout the country. It is a perennial, evergreen plant which grows up to 1.5m in large clumps. It grows naturally in full sun or partial shade at forest mar-gins, or in the shelter of taller shrubs on exposed slopes facing the sea. DIPLADENIA

SANDERI ROSEA PINK Superb climber that will display pretty flowers from spring right through to the end of summer. It does not need much care and is very resistant to draught. Some sources say that Diplade-nia contains a toxic irritant which should not be touched or ingested.

DIPLADENIA SANDERI ROSEA RED Like the pink, these are both superb climbers displaying pretty flowers from spring right through to the end of sum-mer. They do not need much care and are very resistant to draught. Some sources say that Dipladenia contains a toxic irritant which should not be touched or ingested.

DIPLADENIA SANDERI ROSEA WHITE

ENSETE VENTRICOSUM MAURELII

Gives a real tropical feel: giant, jungle-like paddles of rich red and green leaves unfurl from the thick leafy trunk of this extremely fast growing banana-relative. Grow in Û a warm sunny spot with lots of water. Take the plant indoors and treat as a houseplant before the first frost, or for larger plants simp-ly dig them up, cut off their leaves and place in a dry, cool place over winter. The stumps should quickly start to regrow in Spring.

ARCHITECTURALARCHITECTURAL/6

DIETES BICOLOUR Forms clumps of erect sword-shaped leaves. The adult plant is approximately 1m wide and 1m tall.with leaves between 1 to 2cm wide. Light green in colour with a double central vein. They are arranged in flat fans similar to other members of the iris family. The plant spreads by means of its modified stems (rhizomes), which are located below the soil surface. The flowers are about 60 mm in diameter, flat, light yellow with brown markings and are produced on the ends of much branched flower stalks. The flowers only last for one day, but because so many buds are produced the plant is almost always in flower from October until January (spring and summer). The fruit is a club-shaped capsule approximately 25mm in diameter which partially splits to release the seeds. [Extract from The Daily Telegraph]
