MISSIONThe Stern Accounting Society strives to cultivate greater interest in the limitless career opportunities available in the accounting field. SAS hosts a series of professional speakers, social, and community events with a number of prestigious firms throughout the academic year. SAS is a platform through which members obtain internships, mentors, and sophomore leadership program positions at the Big Four amongst other firms.

MEMBERSHIPStern Accounting Society has two tiers of membership: Active Member and Platinum Member.

EVENTS

Big 4 Information Sessions, Leadership Programs, & Case CompetitionsMost headlining events involve the Big 4, where recruiters and professionals usually discuss company positioning and opportunities within the firm. Sessions usually involve presenta-tions or panels, followed by breakout sessions for students to ask individual questions and network with the professionals. Most events are co-sponsored with BAP, drawing usually about 50-75 students each. Firms will also host case competitions, where students can learn firsthand about service lines and network further.

Becker CPA ReviewBecker, one of the top CPA review firms, came on campus to discuss the content and struc-ture of the four examination parts. This presentation was followed with actual practice questions which helped students gain an understanding of how the test is presented.

Deloitte RoundtableDeloitte professionals came in to host a workshop on networking and interview etiquette. This presentation was followed by small rotational networking sessions consisting of a professional paired with a small group of students so that students interested in careers at Deloitte could learn and ask questions about careers and opportunities at Deloitte in a small-group.

PwC STEMPwC professionals came to our regular meeting to present career opportunities to those interested in STEM careers beyond. Expanding to include opportunities beyond traditional accounting encouraged further student interest in STEM majors and minors and drew par-ticularly positive feedback from students.

MISSIONThe Actuarial Society helps to build awareness about the actuarial science profession. The Society provides networking opportunities and aims to create long lasting relationships with companies and alumni. The Society educates students and offers materials that supplement the actuarial science curriculum.

HISTORYThe Actuarial Society has served as a resource for students who are concentrating or interested in Actuarial Science. The Society’s resources have helped students learn about career opportunities and receive academic, social, and professional mentorship for recruitment.

MEMBERSHIPTo be an active member, the student must attend a minimum of three events per semester. We have approximately 25-30 regular members. In the fall semester, our club members focus on recruiting for summer internships and full-time placement.

Intro to Actuarial ScienceInsurance, Reinsurance, and Consulting: Perhaps our most important event. We will give an overview of the roles that an actuary might take on in the business world. We hope to bring in an industry expert to deliver a more comprehensive view of reinsurance to our club.

Alumni MingleEvent dedicated to strengthening relationships between current club members and full-time NYU alumni. The goal is to share a variety of professional experiences from the life, health, and P&C practices, as well as to provide guidance to aspiring actuaries.

Preliminary Exam OverviewSeries of events providing a broad overview of preliminary exams (P & FM). Many students are often overwhelmed by the examination process; we hope to provide a schedule template and a snippet of the kinds of questions asked.

HISTORYAlpha Kappa Psi was founded at New York University in 1904, making it the oldest profes-sional business fraternity in the world. Today, it is among the largest national college fra-ternities with more than 170,000 members all over the world. AKPsi is located at more than three-fourths of the nation’s top 50 business schools, and members of the Alpha chapter at NYU utilize this network to advance their business education. Prominent alumni include Ronald Reagan, Steve Forbes, and J.C. Penney.

Goldman Sachs Information SessionAKPsi collaborated with Goldman Sachs to host informational sessions for their Investment Management and Global Investment Research Divisions in November 2015. This event ben-efitted the Stern community because it gave students the opportunity to learn about these industries, and network for potential opportunities.

Speaker Series with AOL CEO Tim ArmstrongAKPsi, along with Entrepreneurial Exchange Group, hosted the current CEO of AOL, Tim Armstrong, to speak to students about his experiences as CEO. In addition, he also dis-cussed mergers and acquisitions, in the context of Verizon’s recent purchase of AOL for $4.4Bn.

MISSIONBeta Alpha Psi is the premier honorary and professional society for students of accountancy, finance and information systems. Our stated purpose includes the promotion of the study and practice of those areas; provision of opportunities for self development and association among members; and encouragement of a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility.

MEMBERSHIPWe are the largest student organization on campus with an established presence of over 500 active members and alumni. Membership is opened to Stern students who have at least Sophomore Standing, a GPA of 3.5 or above, and plan to major in finance, accounting, or information systems.

Corporate MingleThis event allows 100+ students to meet with professionals from 30+ firms. The profession-al to student ratio has historically been 1-to- 1, allowing a more intimate networking session.

Junior Prep SeriesThis series teaches students the behavioral and technical knowledge necessary to ace their interviews during junior recruiting and succeed professionally.

Tutoring HoursAs an honor society, we give back to the Stern community by holding weekly tutoring hours, where we offer academic, resume, and interview guidance to students in need.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)We train and certify 30+ volunteers per IRS standards to ensure their tax proficiency. We help 250+ local low to mid income community members file taxes each year.

Graduate Finance Association Mentoring ProgramThis program aims to develop students professionally through coffee chats, resume critique, and mock interviews with their MBA candidate mentors.

MISSIONBusiness Analytics Club is an NYU Stern Club that helps students foster interest, develop skills, and explore careers related to analytics.

HISTORYThe Business Analytics Club was founded in Fall 2014 as a small initiative hosting events for the student population in collaboration with the Center for Business Analytics. BAC officially joined the Inter-Club Council system in April 2015. Today, BAC holds events twice a week and has since had 600+ unique attendees.

MEMBERSHIPMembership requirements to the Business Analytics Club include a combination of attendance to our professional events, at least one workshop, and one special event co-hosted with another organization.

Weekly WorkshopsThe Business Analytics Club holds weekly workshops in advanced programming. Especially popular workshops in the ’15-’16 semester included a series on analytics in management consulting that concluded with an internal case competition in which Excel and introducto-ry R was utilized, as well as a four-day Python Bootcamp.

Case Walkthrough EventsSome of Business Analytics Club’s most well-received events center on firms showcasing their utilization of analytics in the workplace by presenting a case. Notable presentations in-cluded Jet.com, Digital Reasoning, and Birchbox’s Data Science, Analytics & Insights team with 75+ student attendance.

Opportunities to Connect with StudentsBusiness Analytics Club aims to connect students with professionals across various indus-tries implementing analytics. The ’15-’16 semester saw firms such as IBM’s Business Perfor-mance Services and AppNexus give in-depth presentations on roles within analytics and the skills needed to build a successful career in the field.

MISSIONDelta Sigma Pi is a professional fraternity organized to foster the study of business in uni-versities; to encourage scholarship, social activity and the association of students for their mutual advancement by research and practice; to promote closer affiliation between the commercial world and students of commerce; and to further a higher standard of commer-cial ethics and culture and the civic and commercial welfare of the community.

HISTORYDelta Sigma Pi was the founding chapter in 1907 at New York University by four men: Alexander Frank Makay, Henry Albert Tienken, Harold Valentine Jacobs, and Alfred Moysello. It was founded with 3 main pillars: Professionalism, Brotherhood, and Community Service.

MEMBERSHIPIn order to receive a bid to pledge Delta Sigma Pi, one must attend at least two rush events. Once a bid is received, one will pledge for 8 – 10 weeks. Upon the completion of pledging, one will become a brother of Delta Sigma Pi.

Credit Suisse - 2016 Investment Banking Case CompetitionThe event brought out a record number of participants and was improved upon this year by adding in team mentors and question periods so that students would have a chance to gain more from the experience.

DSPeaker Event - Dan Kim, Founder and CEO of Red Mango and DAN.KIM&Co.As part of the Spring speaker series, DSP brought in the founder of Red Mango, who made Red Mango from the small Korean dessert shop into the giant it is today. Dan Kim flew in from his new consultancy practice to speak to students about his experiences.

DSPeaker Event - Jesse Middleton, Co-Founder of WeWork LabsJesse Middleton currently works in a unique position in the New York startup that is valued by Wall Street Journal at $5.0 billion. He shared his experiences working with startups and tips for students seeking entrepreneurship opportunities.

MISSIONEconomics Honors Society is a selective, undergraduate honor society dedicated to attracting the brightest and most intellectually curious students within the NYU community. The society’s purpose is to create an environment in which members can converse on current events, argue about conversational topics and develop an understanding of the complex world in which they live. EHS provides a network of successful alumni to each member, all of whom remain life-long mentors and friends.

HISTORYEHS was founded in 2003 by Nitin Malla and Professor John Leahy. The initial members were hand-selected by a panel of university leaders and the faculty of the Economics Department. While the original focus of the club was exclusively on economics, in 2006, the society broadened its scope to cater to a wider array of student interests.

MEMBERSHIPCriteria for admission includes intellectual curiosity, professionalism, passion and leadership. There is an extensive screening process to select new members.

Houlihan LokeyEHS hosted Houlihan Lokey, which presented a valuation workshop and then held a net-working session.

EHS Welcomes MUFG Union Bank’s Chief EconomistEHS hosted MUFG Union Bank’s chief economist to discuss interest rates and the state of the economy going forward.

EHS Welcomes Professor Robert SeamansEHS hosted Professor Robert Seamans, who discussed Game Theory and its real-world ap-plication to spectrum, among other areas.

EEG Speaker Series: AOLEEG brought in the CEO and chairman of AOL, Tim Armstrong, to speak about his vision as well as how he intends to lead AOL in responding to broader industry changes, including the importance of creating global online brands, video growth, and programmatic advertis-ing.

EEG Speaker Series: VengoEEG brought in Brian Shimmerlik, CEO and founder of Vengo Labs, the innovative vending machine manufacturer/ad network, to talk with our students about his journey onto ABC’s SharkTank for a funding of $2M. He shared his experiences in ideation, pivoting, and even-tually pitching to the Sharks!

EEG Workshop: General AssemblyEEG brought in Daniel Halper from General Assembly, an instructor from the global com-munity that offers hands-on educational coding programs in four different continents. Daniel gave an introduction into the startup ecosystem by breaking down the startup in-dustry jargon, speaking about the companies, venture capitalists, incubators, educational programs, hot issues, and other aspects of the startup industry.

EEG Site Visit: AppNexusEEG organized and led a team of 20 students to AppNexus’ headquarters to explore the office, experience the culture firsthand, and further develop an understanding of the compa-ny’s business model. The great event wrapped up with an enjoyable lunch for the students to further speak with AppNexians on a one-on-one basis.

MISSIONThe Entrepreneurial Exchange Group is the leading resource for entrepreneurial interests at New York University. By hosting weekly meetings that feature distinguished individuals to speak of their experiences, EEG aims to provide its members opportunities to learn, network, and be inspired.

HISTORYEEG has a history of collaborating with organizations at both the Stern School of Business and across NYU that place an emphasis on entrepreneurship. It is also one of the oldest stu-dent organizations at Stern and has produced multiple members whom have started their own businesses either while attending NYU or after graduating.

MEMBERSHIPEEG has a network of over 1,500 students and features a variety of entrepreneurial organizations from the greater NYC community. There are no formal requirements to become a member. Just show up and join in the entrepreneurial revolution!

MISSIONFinance Society serves to promote a better understanding of the finance field through the sponsorship of events featuring educators, business professionals, and peers. The club is committed to the scholastic and professional development of underclassmen in hopes of preparing its members for their future careers.

HISTORYThe club was founded by a small group of students committed to the advancement of fi-nance at NYU. Since then, the club has grown to become a premier society for both profes-sional and academic finance education. Finance Society continues to achieve record atten-dance as a result of its engaging and informative events.

MEMBERSHIPFinance Society general membership consists of students from all grade levels and 20 members of the Executive Committee. The club is run by an Executive Board that oversees its operations.

EVENTS

Third Annual J.P. Morgan Investment Banking Case CompetitionStudents competed among 95 registered teams of 3-4 members across the freshman and sophomore classes in our third annual investment banking case competition. The prompt entailed strategic M&A advisory to Johnson & Johnson, and winners were awarded a lunch with members of J.P. Morgan’s Investment Banking Division NYU recruiting team.

Professional SeriesBrought in a variety of speakers and firms across the Investment Banking, Private Equity, Hedge Fund, Venture Capital, and Startup industries, offering insights and examples to help guide underclassmen in their career search. Many fall events have become cornerstones of the recruiting process across Stern. Additionally, our upperclassmen-led workshop series equips students with basic technical knowledge and industry overviews in the finance field.

Mentorship ProgramThe program helps connect Finance Society with the entire Stern community as it pairs senior mentors across Stern with underclassmen mentees. The mentors provide school and career advice by building on their recruiting experiences and connecting mentees with other upperclassmen and professionals.

MISSIONInternational Business Association aims to promote global thinking amongst the Stern student body, increase awareness of global affairs and foster discussion and exchange of ideas amongst Stern students, and promote the values of careers both domestic and international.

HISTORYThe International Business Association (IBA) was founded in 2004 by a group of students who were passionate about global business. Since then, IBA has been growing rapidly. Over the past decade, IBA has been very involved in global programs. On top of projects such as the International Studies Program and IBEX, IBA has also held its own global leadership conferences. IBA was awarded the Stern Inter-Club Council “Club of the Year” award in 2008 and the “Initiative of the Year” award in 2011.

EVENTS

Global Leadership Conference (Co-sponsored w. IAG, DSP, CFC)IBA’s first global leadership conference, over 70 students and alumni were joined by the Global Head of Leveraged Finance at UBS discussing what it means to be a global leader and the importance of having an international perspective.

Asia Recruiting & Working PanelIBA hosted 6 seniors with IB and S&T offers in Asia representing J.P Morgan, Deutsche Bank, Credit Suisse, Citigroup, Macquarie Capital, and Morgan Stanley. The panel provided insight into the opportunities outside the U.S., such as recruitment and interview processes.

MISSIONThe purpose of the Investment Analysis Group is to provide its members with an opportunity to develop their skills and to gain experience in security analysis and portfolio management. IAG is chartered as a club for undergraduate students of NYU Stern, and is committed to working with the students and administration of our school.

HISTORYIAG was founded in 1996 as a joint venture between students, led by Stern undergrad Justin Pollack, and members of the school’s administration, led by Dean Frederick Choi. Since its founding, IAG has expanded its operations from weekly stock pitch meetings hosting over 80 students to weekly workshops hosting over 50 members, a membership development program, and an outreach program serving NYC high school students. In 2012, the club recognized one of its founding goals, opening a real money portfolio funded by its alumni, to give students real world investing experience.

MEMBERSHIPMembers are primarily Stern undergraduates and enter financial services after college.

The Portfolio TeamThe internal Portfolio Team is a small group of dedicated student investors that manage the club’s real money portfolio (~$30k AUM). The value-investing-oriented Portfolio Team meets weekly to discuss new ideas and manage portfolio holdings.

Alumni MingleThe Alumni Mingle is always a popular event - IAG engaged over 50 alumni just last year. Notably, the founder of IAG, Justin Pollack (B.S. ’98), makes an appearance every year at the Mingle and continues to engage with the club on a regular basis.

MISSIONThe Luxury and Retail Association at New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business is a professional development organization that is dedicated to forging stronger ties between undergraduate students and the luxury and retail industry. LARA seeks to educate, inspire, and empower students in the luxury sphere. By elevating and informing the luxury conversation at Stern, LARA aims to nurture the next generation of visionaries in a new era for the industry.

As a forum for aspiring professionals and luxury enthusiasts alike, LARA supplements the Stern business curriculum with stimulating seminars and panels with industry professionals in a broad range of luxury sectors and business functions. The Association facilitates networking opportunities, offers recruiting support, and provides an environment for students to engage in informed, dynamic dialogues with their peers in order to cultivate a more sophisticated understanding of the industry. In addition to equipping its members with marketable assets, LARA assists firms in finding competency and talent at NYU Stern.

EVENTS

Meet BLADE: Helicopters and Jets On-DemandAttracting over 70 attendees, LARA hosted a panel of professionals from BLADE, an on de-mand crowdsourcing aviation company. The event introduced an incredibly new and unique business sector and provided students the opportunity to apply for potential summer roles at the company.

Burberry Corporate VisitLARA presented a limited capacity panel event at Burberry’s corporate headquarters. The panel consisted of upper level management such as Senior Vice Presidents and Directors of particular business areas. This event provided a glimpse into fashion business on the brand side, planning, digital marketing, and visual merchandising.

LARA Hospitality PanelLARA hosted a panel of professionals from the hospitality industry to introduce and expose students to an under represented business sector. Companies represented at this event included The Plaza, W New York, and Gild Hall as well as two notable NYU professors as moderators. Students walked away with an understanding of the hospitality industry and the challenging competitive landscape that exists with the rise of housing options.

MISSIONThe Management Consulting Group aims to help students build the necessary skill sets required to succeed in consulting through informational and interactive programs.

HISTORYMCG was founded at the Leonard N. Stern School of Business to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the consulting industry through professional panels, workshops and networking events. MCG enables students to become effective problem solvers by hosting competitions and mentorship programs designed to develop their critical thinking, analysis and communication skills. Through our strong peer and alumni network, we hope to build lasting relationships that will provide students with the professional support critical to pursuing a career in consulting.

MEMBERSHIPMembership requirements include attending meetings or remaining involved in other events such as case competitions. We are open to students from all NYU schools and majors.

PwC Industry Analysis Consulting Case CompetitionThis is MCG’s biggest event with over 350 participants. Students have the opportunity to analyze a Fortune 500 company and gain experience thinking through real business prob-lems like consultants while receiving feedback from a PwC mentor.

Types of Consulting PanelThis panel allows students to learn more about different areas and firms within consulting. In past years, we’ve had over 75 participants and focused on three industries- strategy, tech, and branding. Practitioners from a variety of firms came out to speak about their projects, work/life balance, and more.

Casing BootcampsAn MBA student teaches a structured course about the approach and structure of solving a business case. This is for students looking to learn about case interviews in a smaller set-ting, practice casing with 25-30 peers, and receive personalized feedback from experienced seniors.

MISSIONThe Marketing Society aims to promote student awareness of current issues in the field of marketing and to expose students to various career opportunities through assorted professional events.

HISTORYThe Marketing Society began at NYU Stern in the 1970s as a way for undergraduate students to become more exposed to the marketing industry. Over the years, the club has evolved to one of the most active on campus, hosting the annual Marketing Mix Conference, running mentorship programs, and planning weekly meetings for students across all of NYU’s schools. In 2013, the Marketing Society was named “Club of The Year” by the Stern Inter-Club Council.

MEMBERSHIPTo become a member of the Marketing Society, students need to earn at least ten membership points; gold members need to earn at least sixteen points. Points are given out for attending club meetings, social events, and community service initiatives.

Marketing Mix ConferenceThe Mix is an annual marketing conference in November. It features a market research case, 2 marketing panels, 2 keynote speakers, and 10 roundtable coffee chats. With 90 students and 20 companies represented, it is a great way to introduce students to marketing.

Alumni MingleThe Mingle is an annual event that connects students with alumni from the marketing world. Providing students with networking opportunities, the event enables them to interact with alumni and learn from their real world experiences. We also honor our alumnus of the year at this event.

Weekly Speaker SeriesOn Wednesdays, speakers from a variety of marketing companies present to students about the company, what they do, and available opportunities. These meetings can be presenta-tions, case workshops, or something in between.

Net Impact’s Weekly Speaker SeriesThe Speaker Series is a weekly, hour long event where professionals discuss their company’s social impact and how to operate in the intersection of doing good and doing business. Net Impact has had speakers from non-profits, financial institutions, social ventures, start-ups, consulting firms, and more.

Net Impact Collaborative Experience (N.I.C.E.)N.I.C.E. is a social impact consulting workshop where students pitch their social ventures and peers provide feedback. This workshop has allowed social ventures to better develop their ideas and consulting skills in a socially-minded environment while connecting to re-sources in the NYU and NYC community. Net Impact National has adapted our model and shared it with Net Impact chapters across the country.

Net Impact Mentorship ProgramNet Impact’s mentorship program helps mentees explore the intersection between doing good and doing business with the help of upperclassmen, MBA candidates, and professional mentors. Last Fall, mentorship included site visits and coffee chats.

MISSIONNet Impact seeks to expose students to society’s most pressing problems and encourage students to explore real business solutions that leave a positive impact on the world.

HISTORYNYU Net Impact is a chapter of the international Net Impact organization – “a global net-work of leaders who are changing the world through business.” The NYU chapter received gold recognition from Net Impact in 2011 and was recognized as one of the top three chap-ters in the nation for the 2015-16 school year.

MEMBERSHIPStudents that attend more than half of Net Impact’s events are recognized as members on the website and are invited to an alumni mingle at the end of the semester.

Phi Chi Theta’s Annual Women’s Corporate Mingle (WCM)Phi Chi Theta’s Women’s Corporate Mingle is an annual professional event that allows undergraduate students to explore various leadership and career opportunities. In the past, we have had over 150 attendees ranging from NYU students, distinguished faculty mem-bers, and professionals from a wide variety of industries. Each year, our discussions revolve around various topics such as dispelling stereotypes in the workplace, leveraging your strengths, and following your passions.

PCT External Events Series: Diversity PanelPhi Chi Theta’s External Events Series hopes to expose both our members and the gener-al Stern student body to opportunities and skills that are relevant to their successes in the professional world. In the past, as part of our External Events Series, PCT has brought in various corporate sponsors to talk about their diversity and equal opportunity initiatives.

PCT Community Service: Bowery MissionPhi Chi Theta’s three pillars of community service are: poverty, education, and environ-ment. We consider ourselves to be vehicles of impact for change and are passionate about adding value to our communities through service. Our members volunteer regularly at a neighborhood soup kitchen, the Bowery Mission, to serve dinner and provide care to hurt-ing people in the New York City area. Phi Chi Theta hopes to continue the tradition of vol-unteerism in our chapter and develop a strong positive presence in our community.

MISSIONThe mission of Phi Chi Theta is to provide a national and local network to share resources, ideas, and concepts. To accomplish this, we organize an extensive lecture series each semes-ter, which provides opportunities to interact and network with established professionals from various backgrounds. In addition, we present annual alumni panels as well as resume and interviewing workshops. At the New York Beta chapter of Phi Chi Theta, we strive to uphold in our membership the three pillars of: professionalism, fraternity, and service.

HISTORYPhi Chi Theta is a National Co-Educational Professional Fraternity in Business and Eco-nomics. Phi Chi Theta was founded on June 16, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois. NYU is one of the six founding chapters of Phi Chi Theta and is currently known as the New York Beta chap-ter.

MEMBERSHIPMembership in Phi Chi Theta requires an extensive application process that focuses on professional development, personal growth, and mentorship. Beta Chapter membership is open to all students who have an interest in Business or Economics. Currently, NYU Phi Chi Theta is comprised of over 40 active members.

Ally WeekWith involvement from every ICC club, Stern Student Council, the OSE, Undergraduate Dean Geeta Menon, NYU CMEP, and the NYU LGBTQ Center, Ally Week affords Pride Corp the highest visibility in the year. This year, Ally Week also had 11 corporate sponsors: Gold-man Sachs, Accenture, Barclays, EY, Credit Suisse, J.P. Morgan, Wells Fargo, Deloitte, PwC, Citi, and Morgan Stanley. Other participants included Nielsen, Oliver Wyman, Pimco, and McKinsey.

Louder Prouder MixerThe Louder Prouder Alumni Mixer was Pride Corp’s most successful event of Fall 2015. With roughly 80 attendees, the Mixer allowed Pride Corp members to network with our alumni, various LGBTQ professionals, Columbia Queer Business Society (CQBS), the Whar-ton Alliance, the Out for Undergraduate Business Conference (OUBC) network, and Stern OutClass, the MBA LGBTQ network.

DiversiTEA & DinnerDiversiTEA & Dinner is our latest initiative to increase student awareness of complex social justice issues that involve multiple aspects of identity. Participants engage with selected topics in small group discussions in an informal and friendly environment, while having tea and dinner. Our inaugural session this semester achieved a strong turnout of 30 and great feedback. We intend to host regular DiversiTEA and Dinners throughout the academic year to discuss a wide variety of topics. This has potential for co-sponsorships with other student groups and corporate partners.

Annual Charity Poker TournamentGiven that our goal through investing is to promote the technical aspects of reading, mental math, and decision making with imperfect information, we host an annual charity poker tournament to encourage the advancement of these skills, going into its third straight year. Proceeds are donated to Math for America, a charity with aligned goals.

Portfolio Team Meeting Open HouseTo give students insight into how the portfolio teams work, we organize open house meet-ings where some of our portfolio team members walk students through pitches that they are working on. Presenters go through the thought process and strategy that they chose to employ. We find that it is an informational way to introduce general members and the Stern community to the operations of our portfolio team, and goes a long way in teaching students about how to think about investing.

QFS -USWIB Pitch Perfect CompetitionAnother fun educational initiative is our annual pitch competition with Undergraduate Stern Women in Business (USWIB). We prompt students to create mixed teams of USWIB and QFS members and teach them different styles of investing, which they use to formulate their own unique pitch idea to be presented in front of a panel of judges and general mem-bers.

MISSIONQFS is an educational club that focuses on investing strategies in the financial markets. Founded in 2006, the club provides a platform for students interested in quantitative fi-nance, public markets and trading, and various styles of investing to give more students an education in and exposure to investment management.

HISTORYAfter its initial focus on math and quantitative finance, QFS shifted its attention towards exploring different asset classes in an innovative way through mock trading. QFS sets to expose students to more than just equity investing. Rather, we want students to gain a foundation in currencies, commodities, interest rate products, derivatives, credit, and more through a variety of different investment philosophies.

MEMBERSHIPQFS is split into general members, portfolio team members, and an executive board. Our general meetings are designed to be informative discussions about a particular asset class or investment strategy each week. We also host portfolio team meetings, where team members pitch their unique investment ideas and are able to receive feedback from the rest of the team. Currently, we run a long short equity, global macro, quantitative, and a multistrategy portfolio.

MISSIONThe Stern Business & Law Association (SBLA) strives to help NYU students gather the necessary legal knowledge to become leading businessmen and lawyers.

HISTORYSBLA was founded to connect practicing lawyers, corporate executives, law professors and law school students with undergraduate students. Many of SBLA’s members have gone on to the best law schools, such as Harvard and Yale. SBLA is also a proud recipient of the “Most Improved Club of the Year” Stern Inter-Club Council Award in 2013 for its contributions.

MEMBERSHIPThe membership requirement is attendance of at least 2 SBLA events per semester.

EVENTS

SBLA Supreme Court Tour SBLA attended a tour at the New York Criminal Court led by a court official who spoke to members about the court system. SBLA was then taken to see an actual trial, where mem-bers had the opportunity to observe attorneys’ arguments and witness testimonies.

SBLA NYU Law Open ClassSBLA reached out to different NYU Law professors who teach business/law related courses, such as trade secret law, bankruptcy and business crime. Students had the chance to sit in on an NYU Law class in order to gain the experience of learning in an actual law classroom.

SBLA Blueprint LSAT WorkshopEvery year, SBLA invites people from Blueprint to discuss their experiences in law school and approaches to taking the LSAT. Students received guidance on obtaining a high score by practicing LSAT questions with a professional and learning more about the law school admissions process.

MISSIONStern Cares is dedicated to the promotion of sustainable social impact through service projects and development of the entrepreneurial spirit. Stern Cares’ goal is to give back to the community and to cultivate a new, socially minded generation of leaders.

HISTORYStern Cares was established in September 2003 and ratified as an official Stern Inter-Club Council organization in May 2004.

MEMBERSHIPStern Cares has members stemming from all majors with one common interest: to give back to the community and create sustainable impact.

EVENTS

New York Cares DayEach semester, Stern Cares provides 40-60 student volunteers to revitalize the NYC public parks and buildings. Stern Cares partnered with firms to paint school murals, restore gar-den beds, plant flowers and trees, and repair park walkways.

PB&J with Bowery Mission Food PantryUndergraduate students worked with professionals to make 500 PB&J sandwiches to donate to Bowery Mission. Stern Cares invited 5-10 professionals to complete ten minute rotations to network with students.

Citymeals-on-WheelsThis event enabled Stern Cares members to partner with professionals to deliver warm meals to senior citizens in NYC. Stern Cares consistently receives positive feedback from professionals who can give back to the city while meeting service-oriented students.

MISSIONStern Political Economy Exchange aims to leverage the extensive global network at New York University to provide engaging opportunities, developing awareness for students while simultaneously connecting the global community.

HISTORYSPEX was started five years ago by Mary Liu and Adria Sai-Halasz as Stern’s first international club. SPEX has three branches in New York, London, and Shanghai.

MEMBERSHIPSPEX members come from both the Business and Political Economy Program and B.S. (mostly marketing, finance, and global business) programs, across all four years.

EVENTS

China’s SlowdownSPEX invited Professor Joseph Foudy to help make sense of China’s “new normal” growth. Will the country’s economic growth continue to slowly diminish, or will it face a “lost de-cade” of economic stagnation or even decline? Government policy will decide much of this, and there are few reasons to be optimistic.

Political Economy Industry Introduction SeriesIn partnership with OSE, SPEX hosted Stern’s first-ever political economy IIS in March. The event highlighted public and private sector career paths in the industry, busting myths about the “right” jobs to take. Attendees also had the opportunity to speak with a panel of experts from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, PwC, Moody’s, and more.

MISSIONStern Real Estate Group is an NYU Stern undergraduate club that promotes real estate education, recruitment and professionalism. Many members have gone on to work for elite real estate financing and service firms around the world. Stern Real Estate Group aims to foster a greater understanding of the real estate industry for students through professional resources, networking and mentorship.

EVENTS

WorkshopsSREG hosts technical real estate workshops throughout the year, including but not limited to basic RE terminology and concepts, ARGUS training courses, and elementary to ad-vanced Excel Modeling Classes.

Networking EventsSREG frequently organizes networking events of various sizes for students to begin build-ing their networks. Our annual RE Alumni Mingle hosts over 120+ while private, corporate events allow students to meet professionals in a more intimate setting.

Weekly SpeakersEvery Monday, SREG hosts a real estate professional, typically an alumnus, to discuss his/her education, career experience and view of the market. Students also get the chance to speak directly with these real estate experts.

MISSIONThe Stern Tisch Entertainment Business Association’s mission is to bring together a diverse and talented group of students from both the Stern and Tisch schools. HISTORYFounded in 1997, STEBA has aimed its efforts towards programming that provides students with opportunities to learn about and make contacts and connections in the entertainment industry. STEBA and the faculty of these schools worked together to develop the cross-school minor, Business of Entertainment, Media, and Technology.

An Evening with HBO’s VP of Program Planning and Scheduling, Andy GoldmanNew York University’s Andy Goldman led a discussion with HBO and shared his own expe-riences in the Film and TV industry, specifically dealing with premium cable.

CBS Marketing PanelSTEBA organized a panel with representatives from the CBS Marketing Team who dis-cussed their work and gave attendees insight into past and present ad campaigns.

SVS Speaker Series: Bain Capital VenturesAs a part of our recurring Speaker Series, SVS brought to campus Stephanie Weiner, an analyst at Bain Capital Ventures. Stephanie previously co-founded Dorm Room Fund, and spent time at Insight Venture Partners and Blackstone. Her talk with students covered tan-gible advice on how to further an entrepreneurial or venture capital career, and insight into her own experiences as an undergraduate in the VC world.

SVS Speaker Series: Indicator VenturesThe first installment of SVS’s Speaker Series saw Jonathan Struhl, Managing Partner and co-founder of Indicator Ventures, speak to students about his extensive digital marketing background and venture investing experience in the areas of AR/VR and consumer apps.

Young VC PanelLast semester, SVS held a panel with three young venture capitalists from Stripes Group, ff Venture Capital and NYU Innovation Venture Fund. The panelists spoke about their varied personal experiences breaking into the industry to what undergraduate students can do to prepare themselves for potential careers in VC.

MISSIONStrategic Venture Society aims to provide students a community to discuss and learn about venture capital from experienced professionals in the industry. SVS offers students access to a continually expanding network for professional insight and advancement. The ultimate goal of SVS is to provide students with the foundation they need to be knowledgeable about VC, and spark an interest in the intersection between entrepreneurship and investing.

HISTORYFounded in the past year, Strategic Venture Society has had a short but meaningful histo-ry. In the past few months, as a member of the Stern Inter-Council Club system, SVS has brought experienced venture capitalists to campus and begun fostering a long-lasting com-munity of students interested in private market investing.

HISTORYThis club was started by a group of three students who have been dedicated to fostering a Latin American business community in Stern. ULABA was recently accepted into the Stern Inter-Club Council system as a trial club in April 2016.

MEMBERSHIPMembership of ULABA requires attendance to six general meetings and events, including those hosted with other Stern clubs. ULABA also has a system of Honorary Membership, attained when members attend more than the six meetings mentioned above.

Key Players - Advice from Lat Am Leaders: Finance-Accounting (and other industries) This series’ objective is to bring speakers from different industries who have Latin Ameri-can/Hispanic backgrounds and/or work within groups or companies that focus in LatAm markets to talk about their experiences.

In N’ Out - Where is Latin America going? From Chile to Venezuela: An economic outlook of the regionThis will be the beginning of our series on introducing the overall LatAm region and indus-try to Stern. We will explore the outlook of Latin America’s overall economy and how this is affecting businesses in the region, as well as multinational companies with ties to some of these countries.

ULABA MentorshipThis is an opportunity to connect underclassmen with upperclassmen who can provide guidance from their past experiences with Latin American Business. This event would have a series of follow-up meetings to fully achieve the objectives of our mentorship program.

5th Annual USWIB Conference: Unleash Your AspirationsThe 5th Annual USWIB Conference featured panels and workshops covering topics such as entrepreneurship, finance, consulting, fashion, marketing, and more. Attendees also got the chance to meet and interact with professionals in our intimate coffee chats and career fair.

Mystery BankingUSWIB’s Mystery Banking panel features panelists from many areas of finance, such as asset management, investment banking, and sales and trading. Panelists speak about their current roles, day-to-day responsibilities, and past experiences – all without revealing their employer. At the end of the event, panelists reveal their bank. This provides members with an unbiased view of what career path may interest them.

He for USWIBThis new initiative is geared towards including male Stern students in the discussion of gender discrimination in business and society. The event educates our male peers on the importance of being a male ally.

MISSIONThe Undergraduate Stern Women in Business mission is to promote female students’ personal and professional development by providing networking and social interaction opportunities with NYU Stern students, faculty, administrators, alumni and female business leaders. By laying the foundation of a powerful network of female business leaders, USWIB creates a supportive community and forum, in which diverse experiences, perspectives and resources can be shared amongst members.

HISTORYUSWIB was founded in 2008 by two Stern female undergraduates and has continued to grow and thrive since its inception. After winning “Best New Club” at Stern shortly after its founding, USWIB won the Stern Inter-Club Council “Best New Initiative Award” for its first business conference in 2012. To this day, the conference remains USWIB’s biggest event of the year. In 2015, USWIB won “Club of the Year” and continues to show the impact it has on the Stern community.
