OriginIn 1906, a group of industrialists concerned about quality, certification and research in the wool textile sector decided to found a supporting association for competitiveness of companies named Acondicionamiento Tarrasense. Those industrialists knew how to anticipate needs for business collective solutions and laid the foundations of the current concept of Leitat

Over the years and thanks to the work performed, the entity evolved both to the extension of its activities and to the name that is currently identified with the brand known as Leitat.

During these years, our vocation in offering services to companies and entities has remained unchanged, whereas the activities developed, the organization and our internal work system have changed significantly specializing in different knowledge areas allowing the search for the best technology solutions for companies.

The results obtained lately show that the bet developed by Leitat towards knowledge generation and transfer to the productive fabric is an effective model for economic growth in a fast, efficient and sustainable way, creating at the same time new areas and models for talent development and personal performance for all employees.

The first part dealt with issues as the company seen as an incubator to create new companies and the corporative entrepreneurship as the great opportunity for the companies to create them. The importance of innovation as one of the three points of the strategic model of a company was stressed out, as well as internationalization and specialized diversification. Finally, the participants talked about the sectors of greater innovation in the ports: security, information systems, operative efficiency, alternative fuels, sensorization and the transport models. The second part dealt with the view of innovation as a change based on knowledge generating value, noting eight tendencies to innovate: collaboration, entrepreneurship, reuse, commitment, ubiquity, limits, opening and speed. The Program Advanced was pointed out as a new form of innovation for business growth based on talent, internationalization, occupation and digital connectivity. There were also presented other tools as CaixaImpulse and the program RRI-TOOLS, based on the knowledge triangle (business, training and research), to which the society is incorporated to carry out responsible innovation and research.

23

REGROUNDCOLLOIDAL IRON OXIDE NANOPARTICLES FOR THE RECLAMATION OF TOXIC METAL CONTAMINATED GROUNDWATER AQUIFERS, DRINKING WATER WELLS, AND RIVER BANK FILTRATIONS

The main objective of the presented innovation action is the first application and near-market replication of a novel water nanogeotechnology for the immobilization of toxic metals in groundwater aquifers, drinking water wells, and river bank filtration sites. The basic concept of our technology is the creation of an adsorptive in situ barrier for the immobilization of toxic metal contaminations. This barrier is made of iron oxide nanoparticles, which are injected into sediments as colloidal suspension, forming stable deposits there. Over the last 6 years, we have developed

a novel technology for the injection of iron oxide nanoparticles (NPs) into groundwater contaminant plumes. The feasibility of this approach has been successfully tested in lab experiments and a scientific field application.
