2016 Impact Report
1
Dear Neighbors,
This year marks the Foundation’s 10th anniversary and in that time we have served countless neighborhoods and enhanced the lives of those who make our communities strong. 2016 was an incredible year. We re-launched with a new mission, vision and name - the Joy in Childhood FoundationSM - to reflect our continued commitment to providing simple moments of joy to sick and hungry kids.
In looking back at the accomplishments of the past decade, one word consistently comes to mind: joy. It is the sentiment of joy that will guide us in the next decade. In 2016, the Foundation distributed more than $1.5 million in grants to more than 170 charities in the U.S., including food banks, children’s hospitals and other organizations. Nationally, our partnership with Feeding America® culminated with $1 million in giving through member food banks, BackPack and School Pantry Programs. We also established an exciting new national children’s health partnership to kick off in 2017 with Starlight Children’s Foundation®. They bring more than 30 years of expertise brightening the lives of seriously ill children through entertainment, education and technology.
We are fortunate to have tremendous support from our franchisees, employees, guests and corporate partners, who helped raise a record $4.3 million this year through various fundraising efforts. A new corporate program, in partnership with the National DCP, brought unprecedented vendor giving. Our guests generously gave during our Community Cups® & Community Cones® in-store fundraising campaigns with $1.3 million raised. And, our Regional Chapters raised an additional $1.5 million by organizing more than 25 events.
Our employees and franchisees continue to demonstrate their dedication to the cause by serving their communities year-round. This commitment culminates with our Annual Week of Joy event. More than 1,400 volunteers joined together to pack 351,025 meals for children and families at 70 food banks across the country.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to the Joy in Childhood Foundation and its mission. The opportunity to provide joy to children who need it most is truly life-changing work.
With Joy,
Nigel Travis Chairman and CEO, Dunkin’ Brands Group Inc.

Regional Chapters Formed
Structured as a national grantmaking foundation with a volunteer Board of Directors and eight
Regional Chapters that fundraise and award grants in local communities.
Rich Family Foundation becomes first corporate partner with a $200,000 grant over two years.
“It’s difficult to feel joy when you are hungry or hurting. The Joy in Childhood Foundation is not just a new name for us, it’s a new brand and new focus to provide moments of joy to kids who need it most - those facing sickness and hunger.
Our mission aligns with the Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins brands, which are built on a heritage of fun and providing people with moments of joy.
The Joy in Childhood Foundation is built on the energy, support and contributions of the whole Dunkin’ Brands community - from my fellow franchisees and their restaurant managers and crew members to employees, guests, vendors and community partners.”
- Konse Skrivanos, Franchisee, Joy in Childhood Foundation Board Member

Twelve-year-old JJ has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair along with a computer to communicate. Many therapies were tried with frustration, yet none had a more profound impact on him than equine therapy through the Healing Touch Therapeutic Riding Center.
“There are very few activities that JJ can actually participate in so, combined with the massive therapeutic benefits, horse riding has also given him a huge sense of pride and accomplishment. The fact that he’s getting intensive therapy at Healing Touch - that he’s so excited to participate in - is a joy to watch.”
- JJ’s mom
The Joy in Childhood Foundation supports Healing Touch Therapeutic Riding Center, a Florida-based organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children in our special needs community.
This organization was nominated for a grant by Gary Heckel, Dunkin’ Donuts franchisee in Florida and former Joy in Childhood Foundation Board member.
