Meet GracieCLASS OF 2015
Gracie is in her senior year at Bishop Guertin. She loves that she gets to share her high school experience with her sister, Elizabeth, who is a sophomore.
Aside from the family connection at school, Gracie has been able to make friends easily and considers her friends and school community as a part of her family and home. She highlights, “I just love showing potential students around our campus and meeting new people!” She also has a passion for softball and is proudly a member of the Varsity Softball Team. When not on the softball field, you can usually find Gracie in a classroom filled with members of her championship Mock Trial team. Her team practices mostly after school, and they spend months preparing and studying specific cases. After a lot of hard
work, Gracie is now ranked one of the top mock lawyers in the state! On top of that, for the last two years she has traveled to St. Louis, Missouri competing in the FIRST Robotics World Championships with the
highly successful Bishop Guertin FIRST Robotics Team “811”. Extremely passionate about the sciences, Gracie hopes to study Forensics Science
after high school and subsequently attend a medical school in order to become a medical examiner. Gracie’s infectious smile and spunky personality makes her a favorite in the Student Ambassador Club and in the Bishop Guertin high school community.

Meet JacksonCLASS OF 2016
Jackson is a junior at Bishop Guertin High. As a New Hampshire native, Jackson credits his 6’4’’ height to his mother, who played basketball for Syracuse University, a Top 100 National University.1
Academically, Jackson is enrolled in a number of Honors and Advanced Placement courses and plans on majoring in Engineering or Computer Science. Outside the classroom, he keeps busy as a member of the Student Ambassador Club, serving as the Admissions Tour Guide and a shadow host to prospective students. He also plays trumpet in the Cardinal Marching Band and Concert Band. You might catch him marching during city parades, in formation during a half-time field show or performing during a holiday concert. Besides being musically inclined, Jackson stays active
as a member of the Bishop Guertin Boy’s Basketball team. He finds the athletic program at school is both challenging and rewarding. He notes, “One of the best
parts of being on an athletic team is the fans!” The student section, referred to as ‘The Nest’, is present at all home games and is loud and proud
of the sportsmanship and teamwork of the Cardinals. Although he finds the academics to be rigorous, he believes it’s the passionate teachers and great community that makes Bishop Guertin feel like a home away from home.

Pre-Arrival SchedulingWhether you are pursuing your high school diploma or spending a semester or year as an exchange student, it is best for you to know in advance what you will be studying at Bishop Guertin. The UTP team will arrange pre-arrival interviews and testing, either in-person in your country or via Skype, to ensure that you can make the most of the courses offered.
Arrival Pickup Management and Transportation ServicesFrom the moment you arrive in the United States, our UTP team will ensure that your transportation needs are met. We will arrange airport pickup and transfer to your homestay. Throughout your program, the UTP team works together with the school and your host family to be sure transportation is provided to and from school.
OrientationInternational students will join Bishop Guertin students in their regular orientation activities. However, the UTP team will organize a special orientation for international students, including important information sessions. There will also be fun activities to help you feel right at home from the moment you arrive.
Day-to-Day SupportStudying in another country brings challenges beyond just the language barrier. The UTP office is the information point for all international students at Bishop Guertin. Our Student Services team is physically present on a daily basis at the Bishop Guertin campus.
AdvisingThe UTP team works in conjunction with all Bishop Guertin faculty to advise on how to effectively work with international students. This ensures that students do not miss out on valuable academic resources and recreational opportunities. We work hard to keep you informed about what is current in the school.
Progress ReportsThe UTP team will send periodic progress reports back to each student’s parents, giving them a sense of comfort. These reports are a valuable resource, which allows parents to see their sons and daughters progress academically and socially while they are away from home.
Insurance PlanOur international students maintain adequate health insurance coverage through IMG Global. Students have 100% coverage in-network and access to many options for U.S. healthcare providers. UTP assists both host families and students in finding the proper provider in any given circumstance, as well as assistance with all necessary claims after a visit to a medical professional.
Global Ambassador ClubThe Global Ambassador Club is a student organization run by the UTP team at Bishop Guertin High School. Club members are American students who help international students by organizing orientation and other extracurricular activities. They also take part in workshops in the Language Foundation classes and support the international student body where they can.
Tutor MatchingIn addition to regular support from Bishop Guertin teachers, students who are having difficulty with a particular subject can be matched with a peer tutor who is a member of the Bishop Guertin National Honor Society. Peer tutors are current Bishop Guertin students who make themselves available in order to mentor and instruct other students in subjects in which they excel. Located in the Bishop Guertin Academic Support Center, students can utilize this resource during their free periods throughout the school day. If a student requires additional academic support, our Student Services team is happy to help students connect with one of several experienced tutors that work with our program.
Homestay Program We have a large network of local host families who take pride in welcoming international students into their homes. The Homestay Program is an exceptional opportunity for international students to sharpen their English language ability by immersing themselves in daily conversations with typical American families. Our Student Services team works diligently to review each student application. They then determine which of our host families can best help integrate students comfortably into American society. By matching our students with the most compatible host families, we ensure they have a comfortable and safe home-environment in which they can succeed both academically and socially.

“I felt right at home with my host family in New Hampshire, and I enjoyed the variety of courses offered at Bishop Guertin such as physics and photography. I also joined the athletics team and felt a real sense of camaraderie as many students supported the teams. I experienced all aspects of American school life, and outside of the classroom I visited Boston and explored life in the USA. Every part of my experience here was one to remember, from the friendly students to the crazy hockey games. Everyone was quick in accepting me into friend groups, family and school, and these memories will stand the test of time. I highly recommend Bishop Guertin to anyone for a great experience.”

Home Life and Accommodation Living with a host family while you study at Bishop Guertin will offer you the best insight into true American lifestyle.
Our host families are carefully selected from our large local network. They provide a safe, comfortable place to stay and act as a home away from home during a student’s time with us at Bishop Guertin. Living with a family not only allows students to practice their English even more, but it also gives them the opportunity to gain a unique insight into the American way of life.
Students usually stay in a ‘typical’ American home, which may consist of two stories, two or more bedrooms and more than one bathroom. There will also be common living space and a kitchen. You may receive your own bedroom or you may share with a host brother or sister.
A home in New Hampshire usually has a yard to relax or play sports in and typically there will be a park and shops nearby. Every home is different, so every homestay experience will be unique. Generally, with the homestay program, the more effort the student makes to participate in the life of his or her host family, the more enriching their experience will be.
At HomeThrough our homestay program, your breakfast and dinner are provided during the week. On the weekends, you are provided with breakfast, lunch and dinner. Any special dietary requirements will be noted. Your host family may even take you to an international supermarket or help you find some foods from your home country. Dining as a family is a very important aspect of many American households, and this time with your host family will be a big part of your cultural experience in the States.
At SchoolStudents at Bishop Guertin eat their lunch in a large school cafeteria. You will be able to choose from many different options, which change throughout the week. You’ll be able to sit with your friends and enjoy lunch together on your break between classes.
