CARE OF THE COURSE Every member should be proud of our course and observe the following Rules: q Replace all divots, then use the sand that is provided on the golf cart to fill any voids.

If the divot can not be replaced, fill the entire divot and level off with your foot. The divot sand is for tees, fairways and rough.

q Walkers are encouraged to carry and use sand bottles. Sand bottles are available outside the golf shop.

q Putting Green Care includes the following: Properly repair all ball marks on putting surfaces; avoid scuffing greens with shoes; do not lay cigarettes or cigars on the greens; do not place golf bags on the putting surfaces or fringe; remove and replace all flagsticks carefully.

q Enter and exit bunkers at their lowest point; rake all marks and footprints; leave rakes outside the bunkers. Never climb the steep grass faces or sides of bunkers.

q All cigar and cigarette butts, drinking cups, paper, etc. should be disposed of in the receptacles provided on the golf course.

q Park golf cart on cart paths around greens and tees – all four tires must be on the path. Drive on cart path with all four tires on the path.

q Cart traffic should adhere to all cart traffic signs and stakes posted during inclement weather or heavy wear areas in the turf

PACE OF PLAY The Golf Committee endeavors to improve the speed of play and therefore the enjoyment of all members and their guests when playing our course. If all individuals and groups would concern themselves with maintaining their position with the group in front of them, a consistent pace will be maintained. A total of two hours or better for each 9-hole round, or a total of four hours for an 18-hole round, is considered sufficient time to complete a round comfortably. If a group should fall behind, it is their responsibility to regain position. If they fail to do so in a reasonable amount of time, the Professional Shop is instructed to inform the group of the actions necessary to correct the pace of play. If the group does not then regain their position to the group in front of them, and results in complaints by members, further action will be taken by the Golf Committee. Members are responsible for their guests’ pace of play.

At that time, the golf course, practice areas, putting green, swimming pools, tennis courts and outside dining areas will be closed. No one will be able to resume play until the all-clear signal is given.

RAIN-OUT POLICY In the event the golf course becomes unplayable, the guest green fee and cart fees will be adjusted as follows: If five (5) holes are completed, the 9 Hole Fee will apply If thirteen (13) holes are completed, the 18 Hole Fee will apply This policy does not apply to outings.

COURSE CLOSURE The General Manager, Golf Course Superintendent or Golf Professional may delay opening, close the course, or limit the use of golf carts at any time due to inclement weather or unsafe playing conditions.

A local guest is defined as one who resides in Gaston County or an adjoining county (Mecklenburg, Lincoln, Cleveland, or York, SC). A local guest is restricted to being a guest no more than once every calendar month. It is the responsibility of members to check to see if their guests have played with any other member of Gaston Country Club during the same month. 1. A Hole-in-One is official if it is made in any event sponsored by the Club, regardless of the format. 2. A Hole-in-One is official at any other time if the following conditions are met: a. The Ace is made at Gaston Country Club; b. At least a 9-hole round was played; c. At least one other individual was present to attest the achievement; d. The Hole-in-One was made by a Golf Member (children of golf members are not eligible). 3. Disbursement: a. A bar will be made available for all those in attendance. The maximum money to be used

Ace-Maker in Golf Shop Credit. c. In the event that a hole-in-one is scored late in the evening, the toasting of the feat will be

scheduled for the following day. PRACTICE FACILIT IES The driving range is open for the season January 1 to December 31 (Weather Permitting). The range will generally be open as follows: 11:00 a.m. Monday, and 7:30 a.m. Tuesday-Sunday & Holidays. The range will close at dusk on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The range will close 1-1/2 hours before dusk on Wednesday and Sunday to clean pick for maintenance the next morning. Please call the Golf Shop for specific times. Range memberships are mandatory for all golf members ($150 per season with no cost to children under age 16). q Appropriate golfing attire, as outlined under “Golf Attire” within the rules and

etiquette are expected of all players using the practice areas. q The turf areas will be limited to spaces designated between ropes. The artificial grass

mats are to be used by all members on Mondays, extremely wet days, and winter months.

q Range balls are for exclusive use on the Practice Facilities and are not to be used on the Golf Course at any time.

q Players are not to go forward of the immediate teeing area to retrieve their “missed” shots, or any other balls lying in the field.

Page 12: 2016 MEN S GOLF HANDBOOK - Gaston Country Club MEN_S GOLF... · 2016 GOLF COMMITTEE Golf Chairman & Board Liaison Dr. Kevin DiBella Vice Chairman Chris Whelchel Lane Cann Danny Denton

12

q Practice is discouraged on the golf course. Practice that impedes pace of play or causes damage to the golf course is not permitted. The Golf Professional may sanction special practice sessions on the course.

q Players may not hit balls before the opening times or after the closing times. USGA HANDICAP SYSTEM The following are some factors of the USGA Handicap System that you should be aware of, along with information on how this system is handled at Gaston Country Club. q A player must make every effort to record complete and accurate scores and make

certain that they are posted at the conclusion of each round played. q Scores on all courses, at home and away, must be reported by the player, along with

course and slope ratings. q All scores posted must be those properly adjusted using the USGA Equitable Stroke

Control Formula as posted in the Golf Pro Shop. q If a member fails to post a score within 48 hours of completing their round, or submits

an incomplete scorecard, the score will be posted by the Professional Staff as the lowest differential score of their last 20 records.

q If 13 or more holes are played, the player shall post an 18-hole score. If 7 to 12 holes are played, the player shall post a 9-hole score. In either case, the scores for the unplayed holes shall be recorded as par plus any handicap strokes that the player is entitled to receive on the unplayed holes. Example: A male player at GCC with a course handicap of 29 stops playing after 16 holes due to darkness. Hole 17 is a par 4 and is the number 12 handicap hole. The player will record a bogey 5 for the 17th hole (par 4 plus 1 handicap stroke that he is entitled to receive). Hole 18 is a par 5 and the number 10 handicap hole. The player will record a double bogey 7 for the 18th hole (par 5 plus 2 handicap strokes that he is entitled to receive). The player adds the strokes just calculated to his 16-hole total and records that as his 18-hole score.

q 9-hole scores are saved in the handicap computer and will be combined to generate 18-hole scores.

q Scores in both Match Play and Stroke Play, including those made in multi-ball competition, shall be used.

q The handicap recording season for Gaston Country Club is year round, so all rounds must be posted.

Page 13: 2016 MEN S GOLF HANDBOOK - Gaston Country Club MEN_S GOLF... · 2016 GOLF COMMITTEE Golf Chairman & Board Liaison Dr. Kevin DiBella Vice Chairman Chris Whelchel Lane Cann Danny Denton

13

q The Professional Staff will designate which rounds need to be posted as a “tournament” round per USGA and CGA recommendations.

The Handicap Committee has the responsibility and duty of making certain that each player has a Handicap Index reflecting ability. The Handicap Committee has the authority to adjust a Handicap Index under any circumstances that it feels necessary to do so.
