Via La Moda was founded by Master Craftsman Hanspeter Winklmayr and Mr Walter Hauser, in 1989.

Located in Johannesburg, South Africa’s business capital, Via La Moda was able to tap into a rich pool of talent from which to mould a team of artisans and have access to world class infrastructure in a country that is a premium source of exotic leather skins.

The iconic Via La Moda Showroom positioned above the manufacturing site has since become a landmark retail destination, off ering an unparalleled assortment of exotic luxury leather handbags and accessories crafted to exacting standard

Hanspeter WinklmayrA graduate of the Vienna Fashion School in Austria, Hanspeter not only studied the art of leather craftsmanship but was also handed down specialist skills from a family dynasty dating back over 300 years.

Walter HauserWalter Hauser, from Vienna, Austria, has been in the manufacturing industry in South Africa since the 1970’s. A Cabinet maker / Carpenter by trade, Walter’s focus has always centred around exceptional quality and the highest design standards.

Heritage

The eponymous Via La Moda brand forms the cornerstone of the product off ering. The luxury goods house manufactures products structured to suit varying segments of the market, pivoting on authentic craftsmanship.

The 1691 Collection is a tribute to the Winklmayr dynasty and represents the broadest off ering of catalogued articles split across categories ranging from Large ladies handbags to essential business accessories.

Via Veneta Provoque, evolved from Hanspeter’s intuitive desire to preserve the dignity of the precious leather he worked with. This was achieved by crafting a collection that is aff ordable without sacrifi cing quality and design aspects. Following months of research and development the concept of an all limited edition Exotic handbags accessories range was released to the market.

The Via Veneta Provoque Untamed Collection represents a marriage between African nature and traditional continental craftsmanship.

Aesthetics that play on the off erings of a natural environment are

combined with a heritage of crafting methods developed over centuries in Europe. The result is an exclusively conceptualised design with a discerning clientele in mind yearning to express their individual style.

Via Veneta Premium. A range of authentic designs featuring an assortment of bags crafted in genuine leather with an ever-changing variety of colours and fi nishes. Manufactured to the same standards applied across the higher ranges, this is a more accessible article that appeals to the modern woman.

The Via La Moda Showroom. Originally conceived as an exposition point for demonstrating ideal display and merchandising techniques, it gradually evolved into a premium shopping destination for clients seeking craftsmanship and a range of superior accessories over more common off erings.

Brand Structure

Via La Moda products are made in a wholly owned manufacturing facility located in Johannesburg, South Africa. All stages of the production process are personally monitored and measured to ensure consistency. All stages from sourcing of raw materials through prototyping and production to final storage are directly managed. At the Via La Moda workshop Modern imported machinery is operated by trained technicians working alongside traditional artisans reflecting a marriage of art and science at work.

Our Facility

Respect for leather lies at the heart of the products proudly produced at Via La Moda. One of the tenets of the brand is the concept LEBEN EINHAUCHEN, “the breathing of life”. This is reinforced by the belief that “every hide deserves respect” and evidenced in the responsible sourcing of exotic skins.

OSTRICH LEATHER is uniquely soft, pliable and improves the more you handle your accessory. Itis recognised by a unique pattern enhanced by the feather quills. Highest level organic tanning methods are applied to further enhance the natural attributes of ostrich leather.

NILE CROCODILE skin is one of the most luxurious of the exotic leathers off ered by Via La Moda and owes it’s rarity to the revered reptiles from which it is drawn. Crocodile accessories are the most sought after in international fashion collections.

Via La Moda is fully supportive and complies with the initiatives of CITES, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species.

Via La Moda makes use of Burmese as well as Reticulated PYTHON skins. Pythons have an unusual patterned skin and are tremendously durable lending themselves to a diverse range of applications.

Other genuine leathers are sourced through unique agreements and subsequently imported from worldwide tanneries that ensure materials are both innovative and exclusive.
