Doak Walker Scholarship

The 2017 winner of the Doak Walker Scholarship is John House, son of Carolyn and Dwayne House. John is currently a freshman at University of Texas, Austin.

This scholarship was established by the HP Sports Club to provide scholarship tuition assistance to HPHS senior student athletes on a need basis.

Past recipients include David Bohac and Tim Riley (2000), Johnny Flores and Blake Dickenson (2001), Chris Ryan and David Seifert (2002), Lauren Havens and Katherine Peterson (2003), Beth Hahn and Tim Jett (2004), Pete Chapman (2005), Holt Martin (2006), Davis Cole (2007), Bonner Morren (2008), Max Malone (2009), Kyle Reynolds (2010), Jack Davis (2011), Brady Burgin (2012), Stephen McMa-nus (2013), William Wright (2014), Dudley Simms (2015), and William Wessman (2016).

Christianne Beshara Scholarship

The Christianne Beshara Scholarship was created in 2002 by mem-bers of the HP Class of 2001 to honor the memory of their special classmate. Past awardees were Tessa Morgan (2003), Meaghan Burk (2004), Natalie Zieman (2005), Rozanne Jett (2006), Keally Harvin (2007), Claire Rhodes (2008), Michele Davis (2009), Lindsey West (2010), Claire Smitham (2011), Allie Bergeron (2012), Maggie Dooley (2013), Madelein Morren (2014), Emma Bailey (2015) and Katherine Nash (2016).

The awardee of the 2017 scholarship is Grace DeJean, daughter of Michelle and Dean DeJean. Grace is currently a freshman at SMU, studying engineering.

Ronald Kahn Marks Scholarship The Ronnie Marks Scholarship has been set up to memorialize a great supporter of

HP sports. It will assist the children of HP coaches with tuition. This year’s recipients include Michael Dearman, who is attending The University of

Mary Hardin-Baylor and studying Pre-Med; Michael is the son of Stephanie and Michael Dearman. The other recipient is Michael Piehler, who is attending Bethel University in Minneapolis, MN. Michael is the son of Mindy and David Piehler.

Previous winners include Braedon Hiles, Daniel Holden III, Alexander Cole, Jacob Hiles, Grant Baker, Quin Baker, Megan Piehler, Daniel Sutterfi eld, Tayler Pollock, Kyle Callahan, Jacob Howeth, Rachel Allen, Janie Clark, Matthew Piehler, Tommy Callahan, Ali Kyle, Jeff Howeth, Katie Clarke, Thomas Pollock, Christie Kyle, Brittany Callahan, Ashley Allen, Meagan Callahan, Colby Kennedy, Jon Mark Howeth, and Devyn Marzuola.

Presidential Scholarship

The HPSC Presdential Scholarship honors the hard work of the past presidents of the HP Sports Club and their desire to provide tuition assistance to a deserving HPHS senior. The seventh reward recipient is Will Reichert, son of Darian and Dave Reichert. Will is currently a freshman at Texas A&M.

The fi rst six recipients were Stephen Mackintosh (2011), Cliff Davis (2012), Erinn Wright (2013), Derek Cahn (2014), Brooks Burgin (2015) and Kemp Sauer (2016).

LADY SCOTS COACHES

Head Coach Nicole Fleming is in her 12th year of coaching/teaching and in her fourth year at Highland Park. She is here by way of Duncanville where she served as a Varsity Assistant and JV Coach for eight years. In her tenure, Duncanville enjoyed record success with 105 straight wins and three consecutive trips to the State Tournament, win-ning in 2012 and 2013 and as runners-up in 2014. While at Highland Park she has led the Lady Scots to the playoffs the last three years. In her first two years the Lady Scots were classified in the 6A division. The Lady Scots placed second in district, were bi-dis-trict champs, and area finalist with an overall record of 20-11 for the 2014-2015 season. In the 2015-2016 season the Lady Scots finished third in district and were bi-district finalist with an overall record of 17-13. The Lady Scots captured a District

Championship, the first since 1999, in the 2016-2017 season with a 13-1 district record and an overall record of 23-9, they were bi-district champs and area finalist. Coach Fleming graduated from Tatum High School and then attended Angelo State University, where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and a minor in Biology. She received her Master’s in Health and Human Performance with a focus in Athletic Administration from A&M Commerce. She teaches Physical Education/Fitness at HPHS and fifth grade Physical Education at MIS. Nicole married her wonderful husband John, last year and he is a dedicated Lady Scot fan!

Coach Samuel Standridge is in his first year at Highland Park High School. He is the coach for the JV Gold Girls basketball team and teachesSophomore English Standard and TAG. Before joining the Lady Scot basketball program, Coach Standridge graduated with his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in English from the University of Texas at Arlington where he also worked as writing tutor. After finishing his M.A. in the summer of 2014, Coach Standridge spent the fol-lowing three years teaching Junior English and coaching the JV Girls bas-ketball team at Rowlett High School.

Coach Beth Tallant is in her eleventh year as a teacher and coach in the Texas school system. The 2017-2018 season starts her second year with the Lady Scot basketball pro-gram as the Varsity Assistant. In addition to her basketball duties with the Lady Scots, Coach Tallant assists with the girls’ track and field pro-gram and is a special education World History and Math teacher. Prior to Highland

Park, Coach Tallant was at Sherman High School where she was the Head Girls Basketball Coach and Girls Athletic Coordinator for four years. Tallant graduated from Denton High School and received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana where she played four years of basketball and served as a graduate assistant coach.

Coach Kelsie Tipping is in her fourth year as a teacher and coach. She graduated from Blooming Grove High School and earned her Bachelor’s degree from Texas State University in Exercise and Sports Medicine.Coach Tipping’s coaching assign-ments include Freshman Volleyball and JV Basketball. She teaches Algebra I at HPHS.
