Dear Parents / Carers
What an incredibly busy past few weeks we have all had here at the
school. This has included the Noongar Walk to Forrestdale Lake, Book
Character Dress Up Day, Faction and Interschool Athletics Carnivals,
Dale Fest Music Festival, SCITEC and World of Maths incursions, and
numerous Assemblies. Well done to all our staff and students who have
kept a very strong focus on their teaching and learning programs
throughout this time as it has been quite disruptive. I would also like to
thank all our parents who have done their very best to be flexible and
cater for all of these events within their own busy schedules whilst also
supporting the school.
Next term from week 3, 23 October, we are excited about establishing
a 0-3 Years Playgroup every Monday from 9:00-10:30. This is a great
opportunity for our community and to promote Forrestdale PS.

The Cloud 9 Club Spreads Happiness throughout Armadale
The Cloud 9 Club was formed in Room 5 last term as part of our mental health and wellbeing program. We have been learning that through random acts of kindness we can spread a little happiness in our corner of the world and that giving to others without expecting anything in return is actually a way of increasing our own happiness and self-esteem. Since forming the club, we have started practising kindness in our school. You may have received a bottle of water, a bag of stationary, a voucher for Subway, an uplifting message in a card or a ‘free hug’. But last week it was time for us to go on our biggest mission yet. We wanted to spread some happiness outside of our school, in our local community – the City of Armadale. Our first stop was Opal Aged Care. The residents and carers were all gathered in the function room waiting for us and we put on a little show with three upbeat songs. After our performance, we greeted the residents with biscuits and flowers. We witnessed some beautiful exchanges and there were a few hugs and kisses from the grandmas and grandpas! We gave the carers candles and cards, thanking them for taking such good care of the elderly citizens of our community. It was on to Minnawarra Park next, where we hid 75 little rocks with inspirational messages in the gardens. We hoped others will have fun discovering these hidden gems and maybe re-hide them in other places around Armadale, like the WA Rocks movement. We wrote messages like ‘Life is tough, but so are you!’ and ‘Wonderful things are about to happen!’ We spent the rest of the day walking around the block, giving out homemade cards and gifts to everyone we met, smiling and waving and spreading Cloud 9 cheer. You can read about some of our experiences below. We noticed that people who are touched by kindness often feel compelled to be kind too. So your act of kindness can be passed on from one person to the next and you never know – that act of kindness may make it all the way back to you one day! We would love for you to join us in spreading happiness and welcome new members of the Cloud 9 Club. Don’t forget – anybody can be kind, at any time of the day, anywhere!
“I saw a lady who was crying on the phone
and I thought she was having a bad day and
needed something to brighten her day. So I
gave her a bunch of flowers and she tried to
pay us but we said it was for free. Then she
started crying even more and said ‘This is
what I needed today’. I felt like we picked the
right person at the right time and I’m glad I
found her.” – Taylor
“My favourite moment was when I gave the
police officers a big bag full of goodies. I said
it was a delivery for the Cloud 9 Club and
thanked them for making our community safe.
They seemed very surprised and glad that we
noticed them. One policeman ran back into
the building to get us pop-out hats and
stickers. He said that he could give out free
things as well!” – Amelia
“We saw a group of ladies outside the courthouse and we gave them some hair clips
with flowers on them. The lady I gave a hairclip to said ‘Oh, I’m going to look pretty tonight!’ and she was very cheerful when I
gave the present. – Kingston
“When we were at the park we saw cameras
around so we thought something special was
happening and my mum told me it was the
Mayor of Armadale. When I gave him a
cupcake and told him it was from the Cloud 9
Club he was very happy and surprised. He said
that the community would be a happier place if
everyone was like the Cloud 9 Club.” – Kaitlyn
“We saw a ranger near a tall building. We gave a
gift with a card on it and said it was a little
something from the Cloud 9 Club. He had a big
smile and read the card. Then he said that he
wanted to do something kind today as well. He
said that instead of taking dogs to the pound
today he was going to bring them home. That
made us feel very happy.” – Jaiya and Chloe
FORRESTDALE PRIMARY SCHOOL CHOIR PERFORMS
AT THE DALE DISTRICT MUSIC FESTIVAL
On the 8th of September our school choir participated in the Dale District
Music Festival. This year ten schools performed throughout the day and the
massed singing which is when all schools sang songs together was
outstanding. Our choir performed with great skill and enthusiasm and were
very warmly received by the audience. I would like to take this opportunity
to congratulate the choir on their polished performance, they were a credit
to our school.
School Banking
There will be NO School Banking on Tuesday 10 October
2017.
Banking will resume the following week.
ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING
☻I don’t care if you get it right or wrong, you can make as many mistakes as you want.
We don’t call them mistakes, we call them learning experiences.
☻There are 4 steps to be successful in life in anything you do.
Step No 1 Get into Action, you just have to get into action and start doing something. Step No 2 is make mistakes because it is OK to make mistakes. Step No 3 is correct your mistakes. Step no 4 is “Just keep going.”
☻Practice makes perfect is not true because if you practice the wrong thing, you will continue to do
the wrong thing. We should say “Practice makes progress” and progress means we are getting better and better.
☻There are 2 types of people in the world, winners and learners. Never think of yourself as a loser,
you are a learner.
☻We all have 2 inner voices that talk to us in our head. One is called the negative voice but you
don’t want to listen to the negative voice. You want to develop a Positive voice.
☻When ever you do things in life you want to do it with 100 passion, 100% commitment, 100%
enthusiasm. You don’t want to go through out you life doing things half heartedly.
☻Always have a go. You can’t die from embarrassment.
☻If you don’t do well in exams, all it means is you do not know how to study correctly.
☻FAIL stands for First Attempt In Learning. Celebrate your failures because it means you are
“giving it a go” and you will learn from your mistakes. Mike Mathews World of Maths
