HistoryOur journey started on 17 January 1920, when our founding father, Peter Mathias Røwde, started making rubber products to combat the harsh Norwegian climate. In fact, the very first product we made was inspired by the needs of local farmers: The classic rubber boot was perfect for battling rain, snow and wet conditions.

Soon, Viking boots were used by fishermen, foresters and all kinds of explorers. They walked through mud, stood steady on rocks and rambled through cold winter days. 95 years later, our product range has grown to satisfy more needs, but we’re still true to our founder’s initial idea:If it works for people in Norway, it will work anywhere.

EthicsViking, as a company, affects and touches many lives. We employ a lot of people in our production facilities both in Asia and in Europe; and we transport our products across the globe. In other words, our actions have an impact on workers’ rights, human rights, and the environment. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is self-imposed. It is something that we have taken to heart, and followed since we moved some of our production to the Far East. We have invested in production facilities and labour resources. We do not shop around for the cheapest labour rates or cheapest materials – instead we build long-term relationships with the communities and the people who work for us.

Children feet are not fully developed until the child reaches 8 years and still then they grow up to a size per year or more. During this time of development choosing the right foot-wear for your child is important to prevent damages or injuries.

Remove the inlay sole from the shoe Measure the child’s foot when it stands on the in lay sole on solidground. If the foot still has 10 mm space from the front of the big toe to the end of the inlay sole, the fitting is correct. If the space is 15 mm or more the shoe is too big, if 5 mm or less the shoe is too small.

UGC®Ultimate Grip Concept

UGC® – Viking’s own sole technology with focus on perfect grip. A soft rubber mixture of 60 shore creates the foundation.

Soft rubber, stability and shock absorption – these are the three primary factors that determine how our UGC® sole works. Not only are they key factors, the main forces exerted to a shoe work within these frames – creating and relying on one thing: grip.

Today UGC® covers a wide range of topographies, terrains and varying climate conditions. UGC® can be used for high or low performance. Still, a hunting and trekking boot will have other characteristics when compared to a trailwalking and hiking shoe/boot. They require different flexibility. UGC® can also be adapted to fit wet and snowy conditions.

BOA® CLOSURE SYSTEMThe Boa® Closure System consists of an interwoven wire cable that runs through the entire shoe and is attached to a wheel. When you turn the wheel the cable is tightened all around the foot in a single movement and then the shoe fits the foot perfectly.

GORE-TEX®Viking Footwear was one of the first European companies to utilize GORE-TEX® technology in a wide range of technical footwear-products. GORE-TEX® consists of a membrane with an outer- and inner lining. It is waterproof, windproof and breathable, keeping feet dry and comfortable.

There are four different GORE-TEX® technologies:

GORE-TEX® Surround™ Product TechnologyShoes with SURROUND™ Product Technology have a special GORE-TEX® laminate lining that is integra-ted into the shaft and surrounds the foot – from above as well as below. Together with the open sole construction, this creates an absolutely waterproof and all-around highly breathable shoe.

GORE-TEX® Extended ComfortWe use this material in trekking and trail footwear and footwear used in moderate to warm conditions. The material is known for optimal heat conductivity.

GORE-TEX® Performance ComfortThis material offers optimized climate comfort for moderate weather conditions and a wide range of outdoor activities. Highly breathable and completely waterproof.

GORE-TEX® Insulated ComfortThe membrane is waterproof and a warm insulation ensures warm feet. We use this material in shoes and boots built for winter conditions.

NATURAL RUBBERA rubber boot may look simple, but it’s been through a complicated, handmade process. Some models consist of up to 40 parts. By the time a rubber boot reaches the stores it will have been through more than 50 different operations.

Natural rubber is a natural material extracted from the rubber tree. It is an ideal material for making waterproof footwear, because it has the advantage of retaining its softness and flexibility at both high and low temperatures. Grip, waterproofness, traction and abrasion resistance are some of the properties we use it for.

WOOL BLENDFootwear with this symbol is lined with a wool/polyester blend. The curly fibres of the wool trap air, creating a layer of insulation, to keep feet warm. An exceptional quality of wool is that it continues to insulate even when wet.

WASHFootwear with this symbol is machine washable at 30oC. Just put them in the was-hing machine (no fabric softener, no tumble dry) and they are as good as new!

PU = POLYURETHANESince there are millions of tiny air bubbles in the material it is very lightweight and act as a very good insulator. PU makes shoes more comfortable and maintains its shape – when it is compressed, it rebounds back to its original shape.

EVA = ETHYLENE VINYL ACETATEEVA is a widely used material, especially popular in midsoles. It is produced in different densities and is shock absorbing. EVA is very light and has high insulating properties.

Siliconated rubber spongeThis symbol indicates that the boots are delivered with a sponge for protection of the material.

Shoe boxSome models are sold loose and some come in a box. This symbol indicates when they come in a box.

LWR - LIGHT WEIGHT RUBBERIn Viking’s Light Weight Rubber boots, the rubber is combined with a new material which is less dense than normal compounds, making the final mix lighter than traditi-onal rubber compounds. Still it is hard wearing and durable.
