Through collaboration with our VolkerHighways, VolkerLaser and VolkerGround Engineering businesses, we provide an in-house, integrated service covering a range of works associated with our building projects.

Office and mixed-use buildings VolkerFitzpatrick’s building division is a specialist in the construction, planning, design management and fit out of high quality office and mixed-use buildings.

Much of our construction and refurbishment work is on projects in London, where our teams have built a reputation with our clients for delivering innovative solutions to overcome the very particular and unique challenges of working in busy locations.

During 2018, VolkerFitzpatrick was awarded a contract to construct the new Rolling Stock Yard office development, close to the King’s Cross regeneration area, while outside of the capital, we started work on a 70,000ft2 state-of-the-art office unit at Foundation Park in Maidenhead.

VolkerFitzpatrick is becoming increasingly involved in the design and construction of mixed-use buildings, combining residential, retail and leisure facilities. In 2018, we commenced a project to design and construct Essoldo House - a new, mixed-use building on London’s King’s Road in Chelsea. We also began work to refurbish and extend 77 Coleman Street, an office, retail and leisure development in central London, incorporating a new main entrance and public street, which creates a commuter thoroughfare to Moorgate underground station.

During the year, VolkerFitzpatrick commenced a contract to create the new National Maritime Systems Centre in Portsdown Technology Park in Portsmouth, transforming it into a UK Centre of Excellence for Maritime Mission Systems. This contract adds to VolkerWessels UK’s growing portfolio of activity within the defence sector, alongside our airfield and marine infrastructure work in this field.

VolkerFitzpatrick commenced a design and build contract to construct the Rolling Stock Yard office development, replacing a previously demolished building close to the King’s Cross regeneration area in central London. Combining the expertise of the VolkerFitzpatrick team in delivering high-end projects in the restrictive London environment, with the specialist piling capabilities of VolkerGround Engineering, the new 57,000 ft2 office building will comprise a part eight storey and part nine storey concrete structure, featuring high quality office space, a café, cycle storage, refuse stores, shower facilities and a high specification reception area, as well as roof level patio.

VolkerFitzpatrick is delivering a design and construct project on London’s busy King’s Road in Chelsea to construct a new, mixed use building - Essoldo House.

When completed, the building will include street level retail units, a three-screen boutique cinema and three levels of bespoke residential accommodation – including one, two and three bedroom apartments.

Located on an 800m2 site in this prominent area of central London, the project demonstrates VolkerFitzpatrick’s expertise and capability in constructing high quality buildings in logistically challenging and high profile locations.

Among the projects delivered by VolkerFitzpatrick during 2018, is the first of four distribution centres at the Midlands Logistics Park in Corby, in collaboration with VolkerHighways and VolkerLaser, and a design and build contract for the construction of an industrial unit in Milton Keynes - Magna Park 520 - followed by the internal fit-out for end-user, retailer H&M.

VolkerFitzpatrick’s Building division delivered a design and build contract to construct the first of four high-quality major distribution centres at the Midlands Logistics Park in Corby.

The 850,000ft2 building comprised three floors of office space, two satellite hub offices, 120 loading docks, detention basins and a large, 550-space car park.

VolkerHighways and VolkerLaser collaborated to provide an integrated delivery offer on the project. VolkerHighways carried out the surfacing of the 2,500m2 permanent access road, the junction at the site entrance, footways and a 7,000m2 car park, as well as providing road markings. Specialist business, VolkerLaser, delivered the roundabout works for the site.

The VolkerFitzpatrick team have subsequently negotiated and commenced construction of the second of four units that make up the overall Midlands Logistics Park masterplan.

During 2018, we completed the construction of the architecturally striking Battle of Britain Visitor Centre in Uxbridge for the London Borough of Hillingdon, and we also began work to create a state-of-the-art media study centre for the University of Roehampton, incorporating a film studio, editing suite and cinema and lecture space.

In the first quarter of 2018, VolkerFitzpatrick completed a complex project at CrossRail’s Tunnelling and Underground Construction Academy (TUCA) in Ilford, East London, to construct a simulated working station environment for trainee engineers - including a platform, track, train, tunnel and working signalling controls. VolkerFitzpatrick had originally been appointed back in 2011 to construct the TUCA facility building.

2018 saw VolkerFitzpatrick complete a design and build project to create a new visitor centre to house an extensive exhibition next to historic Battle of Britain Bunker in Uxbridge for the London Borough of Hillingdon.

The architecturally striking 2,000m2 facility is set across two levels and comprises a 519m2 exhibition space housing full-scale model aircraft, model-making and workshop rooms for school visits, a library, 95 seat auditorium, meeting and conference facilities. There is also a café, reception area, car parking and landscaped areas.

Completed in just 52 weeks, the steel frame structure and metal deck upper floors are built on top of a reinforced concrete ground slab and piled foundations. The exterior is a combination of cladding and curtain walling and the interior received a full fit out, including mechanical, electrical and audio-visual systems.
