Thank you for your support of the 2018 New Zealand Rugby League National

Secondary Schools Tournament. This is a New Zealand Rugby League event

sanctioned by the New Zealand Secondary Schools Sports Council, and is being

run in conjunction with Papakura High School. We envisage a highly successful

tournament, and are pleased to have you and your team as a part of this event.

The tournament will be run as a five-day tournament from Monday, September 3

to Friday, September 7.

This information pack has been compiled to welcome you to the Papakura and

Parking: Buses and mini vans to arrive at Papakura High School and park along

Willis Rd, Alpha Street.

Assemble: 8.45 am Manuhiri to assemble by school front gate, on Willis Rd for

powhiri to take place in front of the Marae.

Time: 9.00 am Powhiri commences

Dress: School Uniform – Number 1s

All players and staff must be at Monday’s welcome at Papakura High School,

commencing at 9.00am. This will be followed by an introduction in the Papakura

High School Hall. Team Staff to assemble at back of hall as after short intro Team

staff will head to a separate room for the managers meeting.

The Match Officials photo will be taken at 11am. Once the draw is confirmed a

schedule will be sent out. You may need to wait while we shoot schools that are

to play before you. We appreciate your patience.

Please line up in height order from tallest to shortest. It is up to you whether

2018 again sees the New Zealand Rugby League (NZRL) acknowledge the spiritual

and educational significance of the cultural aspects of Rugby League and

Secondary Schools in New Zealand through Haka.

We encourage and respect the contribution to the tournament of pre-match

cultural salutes. To aid us with effective management of these on-field, and to

enable us to watch these as part of our recognition process, all schools are

required to register their intention to perform a haka or similar on arrival of the

tournament. We will then acknowledge and celebrate these at the tournament

awards Thursday afternoon.

To all Team Managers,

New Zealand Rugby League will be seeking feedback via surveys from the players at the

2018 National Secondary School Tournament.

The information collected will assist NZRL in gaining a greater understanding of the

players and their Rugby League experiences.

Copies of the surveys will be handed out to the Team Managers at the meeting on

Monday 3rd September.

Those that are completed and returned to the Operations Centre (Pulman Park) by end

of play Thursday 6th September will go in the draw for some Kiwi’s apparel.

More information will be shared at the team managers meeting.

NZRL will provide a laundry service for each school throughout the duration of the

tournament. The laundry process will work as follows:

• Team Manager brings their dirty kit to the Operations Centre following their game

from Monday through Thursday, where they sign into the building and drop the kit

off.

• The kit is then collected, washed and dropped off in the morning.

• The Team Manager signs back into the Operations Centre in the morning and

collects the washed kit.

It is very important that dirty kit is dropped off to the Operations Centre as quickly as

possible following each game.

It is with great pleasure that the NZRL and key partners will provide the following to

each participating school:

Pulman Park is an exclusive international sports, recreation and function facility.

Just minutes from the Papakura town centre and local accommodation, the park

is easily accessible and an ideal location to hold the 2018 Secondary Schools

Rugby League Tournament. Containing 8 playing fields, the entire tournament will

be run at this location during tournament week.

There is plenty of parking if you choose to drive to the venue; otherwise it is about

a seven-minute walk from the Takanini train station.
