The teachers were delighted to meet you all and to have the opportunity to talk about the pro- grams they have planned for this year. I hope that you all found the evening beneficial. Thank you to the parents that have volunteered to take on the role of P&C class parent this year. You will be an important liaison person for parents and the class teacher. UPDATE OF STUDENT/PARENT INFORMATION We are currently updating all of our student/parent information for the year. It is essential that we have current contact information for each family and therefore if any of your details have recently changed please contact the school immediately so that we can amend our records. These details are very important particularly if your child should become ill while at school or miss the bus etc. These updates must also include the details of the emergency contacts that you have provided. EXPRESSION OF INTEREST (EOI) - MOVING INTO YEAR 7 IN 2019 All Year 6 students should have now received an Expression of Interest - Moving into Year 7 in 2019 form. The form is to be completed by families of ALL Year 6 students in preparation of moving into secondary school. If your child was away when the form was given out, you can pick up another form from the Primary Office. As required by the Department of Education, your child’s designated high school has been already entered on the form, according to the address we have on record. If your address has changed, please contact the office with details including proof of address. Please note that all students are to return this form regardless of whether you choose a government or private secondary school. Please forward your completed form to the Primary office no later than Friday 16 th March 2018. P&C WELCOME PICNIC Just a reminder, you are all invited to attend the P&C Welcome Picnic this Friday from 5:30pm on- wards. This event is a very relaxed and informal affair and a fabulous way to wind down after a busy week. Come along with your children and enjoy a picnic on the grass while meeting and chatting with other wonderful Warrawee families. Please note that teachers are not responsible for supervision at this P&C event. Supervision of all children is their parents’ responsibility. PRESENTATION OF YR 6 LEADERSHIP BADGES At the 3-6 assembly on Friday afternoon, 16 March, commencing at 2:00pm we will be presenting leadership badges to our Year 6 students that will be taking on leadership roles and responsibilities this year. Parents are warmly invited to attend this assembly for this special occasion. PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS Parent / Teacher interviews are being planned for weeks 10 and 11 this term. An online booking schedule will be available to you soon to assist with this process. Further information will follow short- ly. NO STOPPING ZONE AT THE TOP OF FINLAY ROAD We have been advised by a parent that the area just down from the corner of the Pacific Highway and Finlay Road (opposite the school, where there appears to be some parking spots), is considered a No Stopping Zone. The Council Ranger has advised us that photos will be taken of cars parked there and the car owners will be fined. Apparently it also carries demerit points. ROAD SAFETY AROUND OUR SCHOOL As you know the surrounds of our school are very busy places in the mornings and in the afternoons as the roads are congested with both car and pedestrian traffic. Please exercise caution and follow all road rules when you are driving or parking around the school, in order to keep our children safe. Road safety education is a priority for us at Warrawee and we regularly revise road rules and pedes- trian safety in class and it would be helpful if you could reinforce these rules at home as well. These constant reminders from school and home are greatly appreciated. We wish all our students the best of luck in the pool. CONGRATULATIONS Congratulations to Max DV who successfully trialled for the Zone Cricket Team. He will now trial for the combined cricket team. NO NUTS, PEANUT BUTTER OR NUTELLA Also just a reminder that we have a number of students with allergies to various foods and who are anaphylactic so please avoid nuts, peanut butter and Nutella in lunchboxes and remind students that we do not share food at school.

NEW KINDY PARENT SURVIVAL TIPS As a new kindy mum myself this year I was given these survival tips and thought that I would share them with you:

Plenty of sleep

Kiss and drop quickly

Praise all their efforts

Let them be responsible

Let them fail every now and again

Ask them if they’ve had a happy day, but don’t expect them to give you too many details.

Be positive

Have a great week!

P&C NEWS

WELCOME-BACK PICNIC As announced in the last Warraweekly, our school welcome-back picnic is on this Friday evening (March 2nd) from 5.30 p.m. It’s just an informal affair: a simple fun opportunity for Warrawee families to connect with old friends (and make new ones!) at the end of the week as we all settle back into the new year. Bring a picnic, a rug, and something to drink (as the evening is being held on school grounds and children will be present Department regulations insist we must request please no alcohol!) – or grab a $2 BBQ sausage and bread from the sausage sizzle stall – the sausages have been generously donated by Turramurra Gourmet Meats, so all proceeds will go directly to your P&C.

CLASS PARENTS We still need class parents - if you’re interested in helping out in this important and rewarding way please send an email to [email protected]. For those who’ve already put their name down, or who are thinking about it and would like to know more, come along to one of two information sessions being held in in the Band Room on Monday, 5th March – 9:15 am or 7:00pm.

TRAFFIC & PARKING Traffic issues and road safety concerns continue to be foremost on everyone's mind, and so it’s worth noting the changes in the road rules around schools:

Please slow down and show consideration when driving and park-ing around the school and children – failing to do so will quickly become very, very expensive.

P&C AGM – MONDAY 26TH MARCH 7.00 P.M. Our AGM will be held on 26 March 2018, and in accordance with changes made to the by-laws last October all nominations for the position of President, Vice President (x2), Secretary, and Treasur-er, must be received by the P&C Secretary by 14 days prior to that date – Monday 12 March. Everyone is welcome to attend, but to be eligible to vote you must be a valid member and have attended at least one general meeting since the 2017 AGM.

BENDIGO BANK Bendigo School Banking has started for 2018, if you’d like to open a bank account for your child, please pick up a form from the Of-fice. Your child needs to drop off their banking to the Office on a Tuesday morning before the first bell. Your child’s bank pass book will be returned to their classroom on a Wednesday.

David Bradley P&C President

UNIFORM NEWS SCHOOL HAT Due to unforeseen circumstances, there has been a delay on our hat delivery. Apologies to all the families waiting, especial-ly to our kindergarten students. We have been informed the hats will be here early March. If you could please continue wearing a plain hat until this time, that would be greatly appre-ciated. HAT ORDERS If you have ordered a hat, it will be temporally labelled and delivered to your child’s class. Once your child brings their hat home please make sure they are clearly labelled with a per-manent laundry marker. MAIL ORDERS Please note the Uniform shop no longer accepts cheque pay-ments. Forms are available in both school offices and on the website www.warrawee-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/forms-notes. All orders will be processed and delivered to your child’s class. Please assist by filling in ALL details on the form – especially your child’s name/class and sizes of items required. Kylie Southwell Uniform Shop Manager

SCRIPTURE AND ETHICS AT WARRAWEE IN 2018

Parents and caregivers in NSW public schools have the right to have their children receive instruction in their preferred religious persuasion, where authorised teachers of that persuasion are avail-able. A Special Religious Education (SRE) program is available at Warrawee Public School and is run by authorised volunteers of approved religious persuasions. The approved SRE programs for 2018 are:

Option 1: Catholic Option 2: Protestant (Including Anglican, Baptist, Uniting and As-semblies of God denominations) Option 3: Jewish Option 4: Hindu Option 5: Baha’I

Additional information about the SRE programs on offer can be obtained from the SRE providers. Contact details of SRE program coordinators can be provided by the school if required.

Students continue in the same SRE arrangement each year unless a parent/caregiver has requested a change in writing. That is, students stay in the same Scripture class chosen on their enrolment form, unless we are advised otherwise.

SRE participation notes (on yellow paper) are going home Monday February 12 and Tuesday February 13, to selected students. Notes have been given to students who we require more information from or to confirm their decision to opt-out of SRE. Please use this note to nominate the SRE program you wish your child to attend or indi-cate you wish to withdraw your child from SRE.

If you did not receive this note but would like to confirm your child’s arrangement, copies are available on the school website (http://www.warrawee-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/forms-notes).

Only after the yellow note has been returned to opt out of SRE (Scripture), will a further note be sent home with information about Special Education in Ethics Classes being offered at Warrawee. This sequence is Department of Education policy (December 2016). The Ethics note will be sent home on Friday February 16, and received from Monday February 19. Please return Eth-ics notes to the Primary and Infants offices.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer Ethics classes for Kin-dergarten students who have opted-out of our SRE programs. We will advise you if another volunteer teacher becomes avail-able and this situation changes.

Students who opt-out of SRE but do not choose Ethics or are not offered a place in Ethics due to limited spaces will be supervised in activities including reading, private study or completing homework.

At any time, you have the right to change your SRE nomination or to withdraw your child from the nominated lessons. A note to the Principal will affect this change.

Regards,

Scripture and Ethics Coordinators
