2019-2020ANNUAL REPORT

Page 2: 2019-2020 ANNUAL REPORT - Gross Catholic High School

This Annual Report comes at the end of a year like no other. These

unprecedented times have been filled with tremendous challenges and

uncertainties. And yet, through it all, Gross Catholic has remained strong.

We have not been discouraged. We have not been defeated. This

community has risen above. Sustained by our faith — in God and in each

other — we have forged ahead and accomplished much. The impossible

has become the possible and our blessings are abundant.

All we have done and all we continue to do is not achieved in solitude.

Along with God’s graces we rely on the strength and support of the entire

Cougar family. As you continue to learn about our outstanding students,

our proud and successful alumni, and our wonderfully supportive

community, know that we are truly grateful for all we have been given.

Know that we remain committed to our mission as a Catholic school.

Our mission has been, and continues to be, quite focused and will be our

pillar of strength for years to come. With the support of this community,

we will continue to “develop Christian leaders through educational

excellence”. And to that end, we remain faithful, compassionate, and

driven. Finally, please know that going forward we will remain focused on

establishing a strong and lasting legacy — a legacy that models for the

rest of the world what it truly means to “be a leader”.

Thank you and God bless!

Dr. Dorothy A. Ostrowski

At Gross Catholic, we value leadership in faith. Mary as the model of love, empathy and discipleship brings the presence of Jesus to life within others and ourselves. We demonstrate this value by building a solid foundation in faith and by living our Catholic values in the Marianist tradition. As educators at Gross Catholic, we help our students search for meaning; stimulate the practice of personal values and enable them to recognize and welcome the sacred with simplicity, humility, prayer and love.

Authentically Faithful. • 100 students attended Marianist LIFE

(Living in Faith Experience) meetings throughout the year.

• All students participated in a class retreat to express and share their faith with their fellow students.

• All students and staff celebrate weekly all-school Mass and quarterly reconciliation.

We value leadership within our community that is dedicated to supporting each other. By praying with one another, we enrich our faith and strengthen our ability to meet the challenges of our ever-changing world. We demonstrate this value by being a welcoming, inclusive and supportive community. We inspire our students – inside and outside the classroom – to respond to a call for service, justice and peace with humility, sensitivity and compassion.

Purposefully Compassionate.• During Marianist Founders Week, the Cougar

Family raised over $2,000 to support 16 students for one year at the Marianist Our Lady of Nazareth Primary School in Nairobi, Kenya.

• Our students performed over 11,000 hours of service in the community during 2019-2020.

• We awarded 1.65 million in scholarships and grants to over 80% of students in the 2019 - 2020 school year.

At Gross Catholic, we value working toward a greater good, educating our students for life and developing them into agents for change. We demonstrate this value by fostering individualized growth by educating the whole person, providing innovative excellence in academics, offering opportunities to cultivate personal talents and nourishing a desire to work hard to acquire skills that will equip students to be lifelong learners and Christian leaders.

Academically Driven.• 100+ College Preparatory Courses.

• 17 Honors and Advance Placement Courses.

• Nearly 60% of faculty hold advanced degrees.

• AdvancEd Accredited.
