MESSAGE FROM THE TOUR PRESIDENT Another season comes to a close, the 36th for the Hamilton Halton Junior Golf Tour supporting junior golf development in the Hamilton Halton regions. The “Golf Standard” for junior tours! My tenue as tour president has been a rewarding experience. I cherish the memories we have experienced together and know that our tour organization is in great hands going forward. As my term as Tour President expires at year end, I hand the reigns to Brent Warriner to lead our team. His passion for the game and its traditions is unwavering as we continue to evolve our organization with exciting new initiatives and partnerships to adapt to the everchanging landscape of golf and the industry. I look forward to assisting you with the transition into your new role. You can count on my continued support of our tour in the years to come. The tour provides a means for me to express my passion for the game and my mission to grow our junior golf programs thru the region, the province, and nationally to insure golf remains an integral sport in the choice for our youth sporting participation that carries forward into their adulthood. One of my greatest joys is seeing the expressions and emotion exhibited by our youth from the many facets golf exposes them to. I’ve seen it firsthand with my children, who may never be golf competitors but so very much enjoy, a well struck golf shot, a 20 foot putt that drops into the cup, and an especially well struck drive that travels farther than they have ever hit it before. All of which, is the elixir for us who enjoy this game and what it represents in our lives and the friends and acquaintances we have experienced it with. Regrettably, we had a sad start to our season on hearing of the passing of James McDowell, HHJGT Tour Founder, on May 20 at the age of 77. Jim will forever be remembered for his dedication, ambition, and efforts towards the development of the Hamilton Halton Junior Golf Tour in 1984 as a forum for junior golfers to compete, develop, and hone their golf skills with an opportunity to play and experience a number of fine golf course facilities while fostering new friendships and memories. As we close or 36th tour season, your legacy will forever be woven into the fabric of the junior golf scene in the Hamilton and Halton regions. A continued focus for our organization is golf education with an emphasis on rules knowledge and an awareness of pace of play. We have established a participant policy where we require all HHJGT participants to obtain R&A Level 1 rules certification. With the rules change initiatives commencing at the beginning of 2019, all of the HHJGT participants were required to be newly certified for competition. We continue to see the benefits of rules education with fewer rule discrepancies, a greater understanding of the rules and their application while maintaining good pace of play aligned with our experiences from the previous two tour seasons. Our pace of play was tracked for each group at each event and we were encouraged that our policy continued to reinforce the benefits of the rules training and education by maintaining average round times of less than four hours and thirty minutes. Thank you to Deb Eldridge, our Tour Coordinator, all of the Board members, the golf facilities and their professional staff and volunteers for their service to the tour throughout the 2019 season. It’s my pleasure to recognize Deb Eldridge on her induction into the Ontario Golf Hall of Fame in the amateur golf category this past May for her many achievements and impact she has had on the game of golf across Ontario, Canada, and on the international stage. Please visit https://gao.ca/2019/01/21/ontario-golf-hall-of-fame-class-of-2019-announced/ for her story. Congratulations Deb on this wonderful recognition and honour, we are fortunate to have you on our team! The 2019 tour exhibited great competition in closely contested races across all our divisions. I was very pleased with the level of competition and more importantly the fine etiquette and conduct of our tour members throughout the 2019 season.

This year the Girls Division was dominated by two competitors, Zhana Navato and Vanessa Lin. The Girls division point standings entering the seventh and final tour stop at Eagle Ridge Golf Club was quite close. A victory by either competitor would earn them the prize of junior tour champion. With a victory at the final tour stop, Zhana Navato prevailed as the 2019 HHJGT Girls Champion. Congratulations Zhana! In the Bantam division, a closely contested competition throughout the season, Grant Li, outlasted the competition with a victory at the final tour stop, Eagle Ridge Golf Club, to capture the honour of 2019 HHJGT Bantam Boy’s Champion. Also, Grant represented our tour at the annual Humber Cup, Ontario Junior Tour Teams Championships, contested at Shelburne Golf & Country Club. He won the under 15 years age competition individual crown, Congratulations Grant on the double win! Finally, in the Junior boy’s division, it was the consistent performance coupled with a tour stop victory at Heron Point Golf Links that enabled Liam Mosher to capture the HHJGT Junior Boy’s Championship title, and ownership of the coveted HHJGT Champion’s Jacket. Congratulations Liam! Recognition and appreciation for our continued partnership with Andrew Vento, Program Coordinator, Humber College Professional Golf Management Program. Representing the PGM Program from Humber College, Nathan Park, was a fixture on the first tee at many of our tour stops this season and was the presenting sponsor of our final banquet at Eagle Ridge. We hope to continue this relationship moving forward where both sides benefit equally from this partnership. We are truly thankful to ClubLink’s generous offering of four great golf venues for our Tour this season. Additionally, thank you to Willow Valley GC, Flamborough G&CC, and King’s Forest GC, your professional staff and management teams for use of your facilities in support of the tour. Taylor Leibow has been a long-time supporter and wonderful partner of the tour over the years providing us a meeting room venue during the winter for our Board of Directors meetings and generously providing annual accounting services to the tour whose support is critical to our non-profit tour. Thank you to the parents and guardians that bring our competitors to each tour stop. On behalf of the players and the Tour, we greatly appreciate your support. In conclusion, I would like to wish all our junior tour members a safe and prosperous off-season and we look forward to seeing you in 2020. For those members moving on, we appreciate your participation and sharing experiences in helping to make our Tour the “gold standard of Junior Tours.” Hoping you all achieve your future goals and aspirations. Thank you to the Board of Directors for your support and guidance during my final year as Tour President. Your enthusiasm for the Tour and support of junior golf development in the Hamilton & Halton regions is inspiring and I appreciate your commitment to the Tour and support of our mandate. I look forward to working with you in our 37th year of the Hamilton Halton Junior Golf Tour supporting the growth and development of junior golf in the Hamilton and Halton golf communities. Best regards, John Najev President, Hamilton Halton Junior Golf Tour

2019 QUALIFYING DAY REPORT

Qualifying day was once again on the first Sunday of June (June 2, 2019). The weather was reasonably good, with only the last few groups experiencing a little rain. Our qualifying numbers were much lower this year with only 16 Bantams and 38 Juniors, for a total of 54 players. Girls did not have to qualifying as we only had 5 register, and they were all accepted. Thanks again to Chedoke Golf Club and head professional, Marc Arnett, for their support as hosts to our qualifying round. We wish to thank the Tour Directors who offered their time with starting (Deb Eldridge & John Najev), registration (Garry McKay & Ruth Giles), scoring (Garry McKay & Rick Bahula) on course (Bob Kendall & Bruce Heagle) rules officials (Brent Warriner & Ian Giles). Thanks to Deb Eldridge for computer scoring. We would like to thank Paul Oehring, Titleist representative, for his contribution of Titleist two ball packages that each qualifying day player received.
