Brother Eli Ruiz took part in designing
and building the platform for Mother
Mary. The Living Rosary was held in the
courtyard after the 8:00 am Mass Satur-
day, October 19th.
2 November 2019 Grand Knight’s Message
Our Faith in Acon October Council acvies focused on Life (”Pennies from
Heaven” baby bole drive, Special Needs (Intellectual Disabilies “Tootsie
Roll”) drive and Respect Life Rosary at a Planned Parenthood locaon), Com-
munity (preparing and serving “Soup Kitchen” meals at a church kitchen), and
Family (serving the Parish Pancake Breakfast) in addion to scheduled Council
and Orange Chapter meengs.
St Josephs “Pennies from Heaven” baby bole drive raises funds to help families of ex-
pecng Mothers. We raised nearly $9000. Thanks to Walt Hill for chairing this drive. St
Josephs Special Needs drive was held 19/20 October. Thanks to Don Palmer for pre-
senng our Pulpit Appeal and for chairing this drive. We raised nearly $4000. Thank you,
brothers, for coming to help both Pennies from Heaven and Special Needs drives.
Brother Knights Mike Spillman and Rodd Kliner lead the October pancake breakfast. The
breakfast was a success. A total of 198 meals served, with 128 omelets and omelet com-
bos across the 198 meals. Thank you to the brother knights who planned, purchased, prepared, served, and cleaned-up this breakfast. Our charitable program is possible thru successful service to our parish at events such as the pancake breakfasts and Lenten Fish Dinners.
The topic of Safe Environment is being discussed at Council and Chapter Meetings. As Chapter leadership strives to plan steps to satisfy the Diocese of Orange Child and Youth Protection guid-ance, I encourage every knight to become familiar with the Knights of Columbus training that may be accessed at www.kofc.org/safe . The Blue Start button is available to all members. Certain of-ficers are required to complete the “Green” button training. There will be more information on Safe Environment training and screening that is applicable to brother knights who participate in pro-grams, activities, and events at which minors, the elderly, and the disabled are present.
Looking ahead to November, the parish will hold a Ministries Fair on 10 November, the same date as our Pancake Breakfast. Knights will staff a booth to share with parishioners our founders’ vision and our Council activities. On 17 November Fr. Miguel will be installed as Pastor of St Joseph par-ish.
Lastly, I want to say, Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families from the Officers of Council 10287. We have a lot to be thankful for and I am grateful for the abundant Blessings Our Lord has graced upon me and my family.
Your Humble Servant in Christ,
Hugh Lynch

COUNCIL MEETING MESSAGE – NOVEMBER 2019
Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
As Thanksgiving approaches at the end of the month, I like to take stock of all the things I’m thankful for.
It’s easy to say family and friends, those are blessings; and we sometimes take them for granted…but how about the little things in life. It might be that smile you get from person who hands you your cup of coffee in the morning, it may be relishing the crisp air on an autumn day. It may be a simple stroll in the park marveling at God’s nature abounding. Maybe the joy of helping an older neighbor with a chore. All little things to be thankful for.
When I think about helping older neighbors, I often wonder just how many members have taken ad-vantage of help that they might need as they age. Some won’t be able to do the simple activities of daily living. They’ll need assistance, and with our mobile society may not have a relative nearby to help. That’s where our Knights of Columbus Long Term Care Insurance plan might help.
Many people don’t know how a long-term care insurance policy helps cover the costs of care when the policy holder has a chronic medical condition, a disability or a disorder such as Alzheimer’s disease. You can receive care in your home, a nursing home, an assisted living facility, or an adult day care center.
LTC insurance helps protect all those assets you’ve worked so hard for over the years: your house, IRAs, savings, investments. They could all be wiped out with even a short stay in a nursing home. The web-site: https://longtermcare.acl.gov/costs-how-to-pay/costs-of-care.html says that Home Health Care costs about $22/hour, Assisted Living Facilities about $4,245 per month and Nursing Home $85,000 per year. More expensive areas of the country are more than that. Without LTC insurance many families
would face a serious financial crisis.
Most people aren’t eager to talk about long term care; but it’s important to have a plan. Many people want to wait until they are in their 60s or 70s before they start to consider long term care. But at younger ages it’s more likely you can qualify…and the price is less expensive when you’re younger.
I can help design a plan to fit your needs…and your budget. With that you can have peace of mind that you will get the care you need, when you need and where you want it.
Let’s talk and see how you can protect your assets.
Vivat Jesus! Best Regards,
KEVIN J. GARZA, FICF

MATER DOLOROSA RETREAT
Mark your Calendar! Our weekend for our won-
derful retreat in the Sierra Madre foothills will
be January 17th through the 19th 2020, and I
wanted to share it with you so that you could
put it on your calendar. I know, it seems a long
time away, but you would be surprised how fast
it creeps up on us!
Also, have you given any thought as to who you
would invite this coming year to the 2020 retreat
as we discussed at the St. Joseph’s Group Meet-
ing on the 2019 retreat? It is very important that
you invite at least one person so he can experi-
ence a rewarding retreat like you did in 2019!
God Bless,
Tom Woore
Pennies from Heaven started
Weekend of Sept 28 & 29 when
the baby bottles were given out to
the parishioners to take home and
return them with their donations
on the weekend of October 5 & 6.
