  • GENERAL SECTION1. The Association Executive Committee for the Junior Livestock Show and Fair will consist of five members. Three

    of the members of the committee shall be members of the board of directors of the association and two of themembers of the committee shall be members of the association that are elected by the membership at the annualmeeting. The two members that are elected from the association membership shall not be board members. TheExecutive Committee shall have a General Chairman, A General Superintendent, and an Assistant GeneralSuperintendent whose positions are filled by board members that are elected by the membership at the annualmeeting. The Executive Committee shall serve as the representative of the board of directors and its authority islimited to the duration of the annual livestock show. The “duration of the annual livestock show” shall be definedas: From the first scheduled event through the cleanup and disposition of the animals on Sunday after the sale.

    2. The Association Executive Committee has the final and absolute right to interpret these rules and regulations andto arbitrarily settle and determine all matters in regard hereto. An exhibitor who violates any of the following ruleswill forfeit all privileges, premiums, or ribbons. They are also subject to such punishment as the ExecutiveCommittee may order.

    3. The Association Executive Committee has the final and absolute right to cancel the contract of the carnival and/orvendor(s) if they are found to be selling or giving away any drug or sexual related or objectionable items to anyyouth/minor of Kleberg or Kenedy Counties.

    4. All protests must be in writing and be accompanied by cash, certified check or money order deposit of $125 whichwill be forfeited if protest is not sustained. Such protest must state plainly the cause of complaint or appeal andmust be delivered to the Livestock Show General Superintendent. Any protest not officially filed within 24 hours ofthe alleged incident will not be considered. These cases are referred to the Executive Committee which will havefull power to act and from whose decision there can be no appeal. Judging procedures will not be interrupted forprotest investigation. The General Chairman shall be in charge of protest hearing once convened. The GeneralSuperintendent shall receive the written protest and deposit from the protestor and request that the GeneralChairman convene a hearing to hear the protest. The General Superintendent shall also perform all of the dutiesof the General Chairman in the General Chairman’s absence. The Assistant General Superintendent shallperform all of the duties of the General Superintendent in the General Superintendent’s absence. A protesthearing must be convened within four hours from the time that the written protest and deposit were received by theGeneral Superintendent unless extenuating circumstances prevent the hearing being convened within this timeframe.

    5. An Executive Committee member or Board member must recuse him or herself if a protest or any discussion thatis brought forward involves a family member be it individual or committee member.

    6. No one will be allowed to stay on the Show grounds overnight except the cook off participants (only during thecook-off events), carnival employees, and the night watchman hired by the Association. The coliseum and horsebarn will be closed to all exhibitors and visitors at midnight on check-in day. For the remainder of the show, thebuildings will be open from 5:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The General Chairman may grant access to staff for auctionset-up and other valid reasons. Livestock may not be fed, handled, or disturbed after closing time.

    7. An official Livestock Show Photographer will be designated for two (2) year term by the Board of Directors. TheQueen’s Contest, Horse Show and Pee Wee Division Committees are responsible for securing a photographer fortheir respective divisions. The official show photographer will have exclusive rights to backdrop and ring pictures. All other photographers in violation will be asked to remain in bleachers while taking pictures

    8. Judges for the horse show, farm shop, livestock and poultry divisions MUST be selected on or before August 1st byDivision Superintendent/Assistant Superintendents, and approved on or before the August meeting by the board ofdirectors. If no judge is presented by a division for approval by that time, one will be selected by the Board ofDirectors. In the event original judge selected withdraws from obligation, the superintendent shall replace thejudge with another judge and the boards approval.

    9. All rules and regulations pertaining to the show must be finalized on a date specified by the board approximately90 days after the previous year’s show. All proposed rule changes must be submitted, in writing, to the recordingsecretary within 60 days after the previous year’s show. The Board will also meet within 30 days of the livestockshow to go over Pros and Cons of the previous show.

    10. Any balance owed to the Livestock Show Association from an exhibitor and/or exhibitor’s parent or legal guardianwill be deducted from the exhibitor’s check or scholarship payment.

    11. The Kleberg-Kenedy County Junior Livestock Show never has ownership of any project. Therefore, the Kleberg-Kenedy County Junior Livestock Show is not responsible for injuries, death or damages to any project.

    12. The Kleberg-Kenedy County Junior Livestock Show begins with the first scheduled event.13. Exhibitors names will be announced solely for results purposes and not prior to or during competition.14. Check-in for all livestock and poultry divisions for the annual livestock show will be on Wednesday before the sale.

    Steers, Lambs, Goats and Swine will be allowed to stall their animals starting at 10:00 a.m. with official weightsand check-in beginning at 3:00 pm and ending at 6:00 p.m. Horses, Rabbits, and Poultry entries will check-inbeginning at 3:00 pm and end at 6:00 pm. All livestock trailers must be removed from the show grounds aftercheck-in.

  • 15. All entries must comply with the general Rules and Regulations as well as all division rules. Failure to comply withthe above mentioned rules will result in disqualification of entry.

    16. The Association Show Office shall be identified as being in the custody of the Association’s bookkeeper/administrative assistant. The current mailing address is P. O. Box 648, Kingsville, Texas 78364-0648.

    17. Only the name of the exhibitor, club they are a member of, awards, and information pertaining to that livestockproject or farm shop project may be displayed in the exhibitors area during livestock show.

    18. Any concerns of any section of Rules, or complaint of any rule, or a complaint of exhibitor must do the following: 1)contact the superintendent of that division with your complaint, and in turn he/she will contact the President, 2)must have a written complaint or appeal within 24 hours of contacting superintendents, and 3) the Board will thentake the matter under review and the person or persons will be contacted on the boards ruling.

    19. Any exhibitor found not complying with the rules and regulations of the Kleberg Kenedy County Junior LivestockShow may not be allowed to show in any division he/she has entries in. No entry fees will be refunded to anyexhibitor found in violation of show rules and regulations.

    20. At least one board member shall attend and oversee each livestock show event to ensure the rules are followed.

    ELIGIBILITY SECTION1. With the exception of the Adult Homemaking Division, Livestock Judging, and the Cook-Off, only bona fide FFA,

    FCCLA, and 4-H members of Kleberg and Kenedy Counties are eligible to show and sell in the Kleberg-KenedyCounty Junior Livestock Show and must be attending Elementary, Jr. High, or High School in Kleberg or KenedyCounty or must reside in Kleberg or Kenedy County while attending an Elementary, Jr. High, or High Schooloutside of Kleberg-Kenedy county. Eligibility is monitored by County Extension Agent 4-H Youth Developmentand/or FFA/FCCLA Supervisor. A list of eligible students will be given to division superintendents. Non-eligiblestudents will be notified by their organization supervisor.

    2. All exhibitors will be under the supervision of the General Superintendent, but the organization will in nocase be responsible for any loss or damage that may occur to animals, projects or persons.

    3. All exhibitors must be neat, clean, appropriately dressed, and well groomed. Good grooming for boys shall includea haircut which ensures no hair hanging over a dress shirt collar, in the face, or below the middle of the ear. Sideburns must be kept neatly trimmed and not extend below the ear. Beards and mustaches are not allowed. Boysare expected to shave as often as the situation dictates in order to maintain good grooming habits. Goodgrooming for the girls shall include a modest hair style which does not cover the eyes. These guidelines will beused by the division superintendents which will approve all exhibitors before their entries are accepted. Theguidelines are to be followed during the entire show. Failure to comply with this rule will result in the exhibitor notbeing allowed to participate in the show.

    4. Exhibitors in the show must not use or have in their possession any tobacco products, drugs, or alcohol.

    ENTRY SECTION1. Application for entry: All Entries shall be submitted online by November 1st by the exhibitor or parent/guardian

    along with entry fee. Incomplete entries will be disqualified. Fees are non-refundable or transferable. Late entrieswill be allowed but must submitted online before December 23rd and will be charged a late fee as shown in EntryFee Schedule in addition to the regular fee. There will be no late entries accepted after December 23rd. The nameof the exhibitor will not be in the catalog if the November 1st deadline is not met. In all cases, the right is reservedto reject or accept conditionally any application for entry. (Exceptions to these dates are Livestock Judging, CookOff and Poultry Orders as these divisions have entry deadlines different in the division rules).

    2. Acceptance of the Certification statement within the online entry process, regarding proper withdrawal time ofdrugs, chemical, or feed additive equates agreement by the exhibitor and their parent/guardian. All sale moniesshall be held until drug tests are completed and monies will be returned to the buyer of any animal that has beencondemned by the USDA and/or FDA.

    3. The showing of any animal that has been administered any quantity of diuretic, unapproved growth stimulant orother unapproved medication, or that has not been properly withdrawn from approved drugs is prohibited. Theshowing of unethically fitted livestock is prohibited. Unethical fitting means any attempt to alter the naturalappearance, conformation or weight of an animal by any unnatural means.Penalties for improper use of medications or unethically fitted livestock will be prescribed by the Kleberg-KenedyCounty Junior Livestock Show Board of Directors or the Executive Committee based on the severity of theviolation. Any market animal that requires medication with a withdrawal period to be administered on the showgrounds will be ineligible and removed by the exhibitor from the grounds.

    4. The entry forms must have the exhibitor’s valid name and social security number (SSN) or Individual Tax IDNumber (ITIN) which can be validated by the association with the Social Security Administration or the IRS.Validation will be completed prior to the entry check in date for all projects that could potentially sale at the show.

  • If validation of the name and SSN is not able to be accomplished prior to check-in, the project will NOT be allowedto check-in to the show.

    5. An exhibitor will NOT be allowed to check in their project if they or a member of their immediate family has anoutstanding balance due to the association.

    6. All Exhibitors must be Quality Counts certified through their respective Texas 4-H or FFA program by entrydeadline. Exhibitor’s Quality Counts certification number is required at time of online entry. Failure to comply withthis rule will result in disqualification. Quality Counts certification numbers will be verified through Texas AgrilifeExtension Office and/or FFA advisors.

    VALIDATION SECTION1. The validation process may include but not limited to ear tags, tattoos, nose print, photographs, DNA

    sampling, or other means as determined by the Board of Directors. The Grand Champion and Reserve GrandChampion of each division, and at least one other sale animal randomly selected from each division may havetheir validation confirmed before premium monies are paid.

    2. ALL Market and Pee Wee animal projects that are required to be validated MUST be validated on the date or datesAND at the time or times AND at the location or locations as determined, voted on and set by the Board of Directors. Failure to meet these requirements will result in no animal being validated under any circumstances.

    3. ALL Market and Pee Wee animal projects that are required to be validated MUST be present at the validation on thedate or dates AND at the time or times AN D at the location or locations as determined, voted on and set by theBoard of Directors. Failure to meet these requirements will result in no animal being validated under anycircumstances.

    4. There is no limit to the number of Market animals that may be validated in each division or divisions. There MUSTbe at least one (1) Market animal of a division validated for each immediate member of a family if validation is done

  • for animals that may be showed by other immediate family members. Each immediate family member MUST havean entry and an animal for each division.

    5. A validation fee of five dollars ($5.00) will be assessed to every Market Steer, Swine, Goat and Lamb that anexhibitor has validated. A validation fee of three dollars ($3.00) will be assessed to every rabbit validated on the 1st

    validation. This validation includes breeder rabbits and bred does for the purpose of kindling the market rabbits. The validation fee will be collected at the time of validation. The validation fee will be waived if the Market animal hasbeen validated with a State or Major Validation Tag.A. All breeding cattle MUST be present at steer validation on date or dates AND time or times AND location or

    locations as determined, voted on and set by the Board of Directors, to verify possession or ownership. TheBeef Superintendent will require a copy of the registration papers to be filed at the show office on registeredanimals. Non-registered animals will be ear tagged.

    BEEF SUB-SECTIONA. All steers are to be owned and in possession of the exhibitor as of validation date. B. All exhibitor names and validation information will be recorded at validation.

    STOCK HORSE SUB-SECTIONA. All horses will be validated on date or dates set by the board.B. All exhibitors names and validation information including photos will be recorded at validation.

    LAMB SUB-SECTIONA. All lambs are to be owned and in possession of the exhibitor as of validation date.B. All exhibitor names and validation information will be recorded at validation.

    SWINE SUB-SECTIONA. All swine are to be owned and in possession of the exhibitor as of validation date.B. All exhibitor names and validation information will be recorded at validation.

    POULTRY SUB-SECTIONA. All broilers will be validated at the time of pick up.B. All exhibitor names and validation information will be recorded at time of pick up.

    RABBIT SUB-SECTIONA. All breeder rabbits (bucks and does) to be exhibited at the show as a breeder rabbit must be validated on date or

    dates set by the board. In addition, any doe bred for the purpose of kindling the market rabbits must also bevalidated on date or dates set by the board. Two superintendents/assistant superintendents will be present atany and all validation procedures.

    B. Meat pens will be validated at a central location or other locations as deemed appropriate by the Superintendenton date specified by board.

    GOAT SUB-SECTIONA. All goats will be validated on the date or dates set by the board.B. All exhibitor names and validation information will be recorded at validation.

    6. State or Major Validation tags applied on or before the last Kleberg Kenedy County Junior Livestock Show (KKCJLS)County Validation date for that specie will be honored as proof of possession and will serve as the validation tag forthe KKCJLS and those animals will not be required to attend the KKJLS validation date. Exhibitors moving toKleberg or Kenedy County before the entry deadline must present proof of State Validation transfer into KlebergKenedy County and provide a notarized letter from their previous FFA Advisor or County Extension Agent statingand proving that the animal being transferred to Kleberg/Kenedy County has not been shown in another countyshow. In addition, the notarized letter from the previous Agriculture Science Teacher or County Extension Agentshould include the date of state validation. Transfer animals that were validated in the state validation program ofanother county on a date later than the last KKCJLS validation date for that specie, those shown in another countyshow, or those not able to prove transfer of state validation to Kleberg or Kenedy County are ineligible for entry inthe KKCJLS.

    LIVESTOCK & POULTRY GENERAL SECTION1. All animal entries must comply with the Texas Animal Health Commission rules. These rules may be obtained

    through the Texas Animal Health Commission. All animals, excluding broilers, will be weighed using a certifiedscale.

    2. All Livestock and poultry must be in possession of and under the daily care of the exhibitor and kept inKleberg/Kenedy Counties after validation requirements. If an exhibitor takes the project out of the county for anyreason during the feeding period, the project must remain in the care of the exhibitor or immediate family memberspossession. A limited list of some examples of out of town needs are as follows: a) Veterinary care, b) hooftrimming, c) prospect shows, and d) education clinics.

  • 3. All animals and poultry will be passed on by the sifting judge. Animals must be healthy, of show quality andcondition. Animals showing signs of sickness may be sifted on the recommendation of a veterinarian. All siftedanimals must be removed from the show grounds immediately by the exhibitor, or the association will contractremoval at the exhibitor’s expense. The exhibitor will be ineligible to participate in KKJLS for a period of one (1)year.

    4. The General Superintendent or Division Superintendent will make stall or pen assignments.5. All livestock, poultry, and rabbit exhibits must be in their assigned stall or pen and ready for exhibit at the end of

    check-in.6. Each exhibitor must furnish feed and care for their exhibit. All exhibitors are expected to keep pens/stalls clean.

    Failure to do so may cause money to be forfeited and removal of animals from the show. Inhumane treatment oflivestock and poultry will be appropriately treated by show official up to and including being banned from futureshows.

    7. All exhibitors must be present in person with their livestock or poultry projects for the weigh-in, (animals will beweighed one time only with scale monitor in clear view of exhibitor, parent, and Division Superintendent) sifting,judging, sale order, sale, and any other time their livestock or poultry projects are called for during the show exceptwhen excused by the General Show Superintendent. Any exhibitor not present when called to show may not beallowed into the ring. Excluding poultry and “legally’ handicapped exhibitors, only exhibitors and their projects will beallowed in the holding pens and the show ring. The Executive Committee, after hearing the reason that an exhibitoris unable to show their project, may grant an exemption from showing their project if sufficient facts show that theexhibitor has had a death of an immediate family member or the exhibitor has medical reasons by evidence of adoctor’s note why they are NOT able to attend the show.

    8. Removal of Exhibits: No animal or articles on exhibit may be removed from the grounds without a special permitfrom the General Superintendent. All animals must remain in place until released by the General Superintendent. Violation of the rule will cause forfeiture of all premiums earned by the exhibitor.

    9. Any animal which becomes unruly and appears to be jeopardizing the safety of exhibitors will be removed from thering or tied to the fence at the discretion of the superintendent of that division.

    10. Any device or appliance used for clipping, blow drying, cooking, lighting, etc. outside the main coliseum buildingmust be a GFI protected circuit. All clipping and blow drying will be restricted to designated areas decided by showofficials. Absolutely no extension cords will be allowed to stretch across any roads or wash racks. Trim tables, trimchutes, head rails, blowers, and clippers must be used in designated areas only.

    11. The livestock judging superintendent or assistants may use any livestock project that has been exhibited in the show(with the exception of Grand or Reserve Grand or any animal with a state validation tag) for the contest. Theexhibitors agree to this upon entering their project in the show.

    12. The decision of the judges will be final in all cases, except where mistakes, fraud, misrepresentation, or collusion notdiscovered at the time of the award is proved. In such case, the General Superintendent, or such referee as he mayappoint, may make decision, or the case may be referred to the Executive Committee, from whose decision therecan be no appeal.

    13. All Division Superintendents will forward a list with the placing order to the General Superintendent immediately aftertheir particular division has been judged. All supporting documents for the placing of the division shall not beallowed to leave the location in which the judging has taken place until turned over to the General Superintendent.

    14. All entries must merit the premium awarded.

    POULTRY DIVISION1. Premiums: Ribbons for First through Tenth Place: Grand Champion and Reserve Champion Pen of Commercial

    Broilers.2. Classes: There will be one class of commercial broilers.3. All broilers for the county show will be ordered by the poultry superintendent each year at the appropriate time and

    only these same broilers will be allowed to be entered in the County Show. All broilers shall originate from a hatcheryfree of pullorum disease and fowl typhoid or have a negative pullorum-typhoid test within 90 days before exhibition inorder to comply with the Texas Pullorum and Fowl Typhoid Control Act of 1977. All broilers will be banded with anumber band and the numbers will be issued to the exhibitor at the time that the broilers are picked up. The bandsmust remain on the boilers and the exhibitor must present their number banded broilers at check-in and for the showor the entry will be disqualified. Any signs of tampering will disqualify the entry. Broilers without uniquely numberedbands will be disqualified. Family pens will be allowed if the exhibitors are siblings or step siblings. Other familyrelationships will not be allowed. Birds shall be ordered during entry process.

    4. All broilers must be owned and in possession of the exhibitor at least 5 weeks prior to the show.5. Each exhibitor may enter only one pen of broilers. A pen shall consist of three birds.6. Each exhibitor may present only three birds for sifting. The sifting judge may allow a substitute to be presented if

    one of the three birds is damaged.7. All birds must be clean and free of external parasites or be sifted.

  • 8. Diseased birds will be barred from the show.9. Exhibitors must place their name and organization on the box or cage that is used to transport their broilers to show.10. At the discretion of the judge, birds must be “show quality” or they will be sifted.11. Upon completion of Poultry Division judging and sale order placement, exhibitors will be required to remove two

    broilers from the show barn, leaving one (1) broiler for display in the show barn. The exhibitor is responsible forremoving the two extra broilers from the Show Grounds. Exhibitors will be allowed ONLY one (1) broiler on theShow Grounds after judging and sale order placement is complete.

    MARKET LAMB DIVISION1. Each exhibitor may enter one ewe or wether lamb.2. There will be five breed classes. The classes will be Dorper, Southdown, Finewool, Finewool Cross, and Medium

    Wool. Lambs will be classified as to breed class by the sifter/classifier at check-in. The decision of thesifter/classifier is final and not subject to protest.

    3. There will be a minimum weight of 90 pounds except Dorpers and Southdowns, and their minimum weight will be 80pounds. Lambs must have no permanent incisors in view, at time of check-in. Lambs will be weighed one time only.

    4. Lambs must be shorn slick to ½ of an inch or less of the skin above knee and hock joints before arrival on the showgrounds. The wool can not be longer on any part of the body and head than any other part, except on Southdownsand Finewools, wool may be left around the ears and topnotch of these breeds. Shearing will be allowed outside thecoliseum.

    5. Lambs will be broken into weight classes at the discretion of the division superintendent.6. No painting, powdering, or artificial coloring is allowed.7. The top ten Lambs in each class will be placed and awarded ribbons.8. The show will award $100.00 to the exhibitor of the Grand Champion lamb and $50.00 to the exhibitor of the

    Reserve Champion lamb if those lambs were bred and originated from flocks in Kleberg-Kenedy Counties. Breedersof the Grand and Reserve Champion lamb will be awarded a plaque if those lambs were bred and originated fromherds in Kleberg or Kenedy Counties.

    MARKET GOAT DIVISION1. The exhibitor can enter only one market goat.2. Goats may be any breed or cross breed, wether or doe.3. Goats will be divided into weight classes at the discretion of the division superintendents and assistants.4. Any goat which weighs under 50 pounds will be sifted. Goats will be weighed one time only.5. All goats must be dehorned with the exception of a doe prior to arrival of check-in.6. Goats must be shorn slick to ½ of an inch or less of the skin above knee and hock joints before arrival on the show

    grounds. Shearing will only be allowed outside the coliseum.7. Water buckets will not be allowed in exhibitor’s pen unattended.8. The show will award $100 to the exhibitor of the Grand Champion Market Goat and $50 to the exhibitor of the

    Reserve Champion Market Goat if those goats were bred and originated from herds in Kleberg-Kenedy.9. All goats are to have a county or state validation tag at time of check-in. All other tags are to be removed prior to

    check-in except USDA scrapie identification tag.10. The Goat Division will award a Division Champion and Reserve Division Champion for Lightweight, Middle Weight

    and Heavy Weight Division.

    PEE WEE GOAT SHOW1. The Pee Wee Goat Show is open to Kleberg-Kenedy County youth ages 4-8 (who are ineligible to participate in 4-H

    or FFA because of age or grade level). All exhibitors should attend a supervised educational workshop and must bea member of 4H or Pre 4-H and/or FFA or Pre-FFA group.

    2. Goats may be any breed or crossbreed, wethers or kid doe. Goats must be carrying all milk teeth, in good generalhealth at time of validation.

    3. At county validation all tags must be removed with the exception of USDA scrapie identification tag and will bereplaced with a County tag. This may be an immediate family validation. However, each exhibitor involved musthave an entry in the Pee Wee Goat division.

    4. Validation will be held on the 2nd Saturday of December, time and location to be announced.5. On show day goats must be in good general health. The show will begin as quickly after check-in as possible.6. Pee Wee will be Showmanship Classes only. 7. An award will be given to a Grand and Reserve Junior and Senior Showman. Junior ages are 4-5 years of age;

    Senior ages are 6-8 years of age. Each exhibitor will receive a blue ribbon. Exhibitors will be judged onshowmanship skills only.

  • 8. All goats will be released at the conclusion of the show.9. Pee Wee Junior ages are 4-5 of age; Pee Wee Senior ages are 6-8 years of age. Age of exhibitor will be their age

    at day of all Pee Wee Goat Division shows.

    SWINE DIVISION1. Hogs will be divided into 5 breeds.

    A. Crossbreeds - sire and dam are of different breedsB. DurocsC. HampshiresD. Yorkshires E. O.P.B. - all other pure breedsHogs will be broken into weight classes at the discretion of the division superintendent.

    2. Each exhibitor can enter only one market hog.3. Either barrows or gilts may be shown.4. Sifting and classifying will be done at weigh-in. The decision of the classifier as to breed class is final and not

    subject to protest.A. All hogs must grade US No. 1 or 2 and be of show quality or will be sifted.B. All hogs must weigh 230 pounds to 275 pounds or will be sifted. The Swine Superintendent will allow 3 pounds

    over or under the established weights to compensate for scale variances.C. All hogs must be free of parasites or will be sifted.D. All hogs will be weighed one time only. No reweighs will be allowed.E. All hogs must be washed and clean before weighing or will be sifted.

    5. First place hogs in each breed weight class will compete for Breed Champion. The 2nd place winner in the classwhich produced the Breed Champion will compete with the remaining 1st place hogs of that breed for ReserveBreed Champion. The 5 Breed Champions will compete for Grand Champion. The Reserve Breed Champion fromthe breed that furnishes the Grand Champion will compete with the remaining Breed Champions for Reserve GrandChampion hog.

    6. All hogs in each class will be placed and awarded ribbons.7. The show will award $100.00 to the exhibitor of the Grand Champion hog and $50.00 to the exhibitor of the Reserve

    Champion hog if those hogs were farrowed in Kleberg-Kenedy Counties. Breeders of the Grand and ReserveChampion Hog will be awarded a plaque if those hogs were bred and originated from herds in Kleberg or KenedyCounties.

    PEE WEE PIG SHOW1. The Pee Wee Pig Show is open to Kleberg-Kenedy County youth ages 4-8 (who are ineligible to participate in 4-H or

    FFA because of age or grade level). All exhibitors should attend a supervised educational workshop and must be amember of 4H or Pre 4-H and/or FFA or Pre-FFA group.

    2. Hogs may be any breed or crossbreed, gilts, barrows, boars allowed.3. Validation date and location will be announced at the November meeting.4. On show day hogs must be in good general health and should weigh no more than 150 lbs.5. An award will be given to a Grand and Reserve Junior and Senior Showman. Junior ages are 4-5 years of age;

    Senior ages are 6-8 years of age. Each exhibitor will receive a blue ribbon.6. All hogs will be released at the conclusion of the show.7. Exhibitors will be judged on showmanship skills and condition of project.

    RABBIT DIVISIONMARKET RABBITS

    1. Exhibitors will kindle their market pen entries.2. Rabbit market pens will be divided into the following breeds (and varieties):

    A. New Zeland - all American Rabbit Breeding Association (ARBA) approved varieties.B. CalifornianC. Other ARBA Commercial Type body profile rabbits (meat rabbits). Meat pens shall consist of three rabbits, all of the same breed and variety.

    3. Exhibitors may breed their own does or purchase bred does. All does must be the bona fide property of the exhibitorprior to the validation date of the doe. The target breeding date is 100 days prior to the show with an ideal kindlingdate of 70 days prior to the show.

    4. Each exhibitor is limited to one pen. Participants failing to successfully kindle 3 fryers may exhibit 1 or 2.

  • 5. Meat pen entries eligible for the sale shall consist of 3 purebred rabbits of same breed and (variety) each fryer maleor female shall weigh 3.5-5.5 pounds with -0.04 on the bottom end only. Age limit is 10 weeks. Rabbits will beweighed one time only.

    6. At the time of weigh-in, all rabbits will be sifted by the Sifting Judge as per current ARBA (American Rabbit BreedersAssociation) standards. The rules are listed in the ARBA Standards of Perfection booklet under “General Faults”, “Disqualifications from Competition”, and “Standard & Guide for Judging Meat Classes”. Any sifted market pen mustbe removed from the facilities immediately.

    7. The top ten pens of each breed class will be placed and receive an award. Blue and red ribbons will be awarded atthe discretion of the judge. Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion pens will receive an award.

    8. Sale order for market rabbit pens will be determined by class place. 1st place pens in each class will be judged todetermine the Grand Champion pen, the 2nd place pen in that class will be judged against the remaining 1st placepens, etc., until all pens have been placed.

    9. The market pens will be judged according to the following four factors, in order of their importance: (1) Meat type, (2)Condition, (3) Uniformity, (4) Fur; as outlined in the current Standards of Perfection booklet published by the ARBA.

    10. The show will award $100.00 to the exhibitor of the Grand Champion market rabbit and $50.00 to the exhibitor of theReserve Champion market rabbit if those rabbits were bred and originated from rabbits in Kleberg-Kenedy Counties. Breeders of the Grand and Reserve Champion market rabbit will be awarded a plaque if those market rabbits werebred and originated from herds in Kleberg or Kenedy Counties.

    11. By the third day after each doe has kindled her kits, the Superintendent or designee must be notified. There will onlybe one person assigned to receive the notifications. This person’s name, phone number and email address will belisted on the doe validation form. The superintendent/assistant superintendent will visit to inspect the kits withinthree weeks. Upon inspection of the kits, the tattoo of the doe that kindled the market rabbits will be cross-referenced against the doe validation form to ensure the doe has been validated.

    12. The Superintendents can tattoo during a spot check at their discretion.13. Market Rabbits do not participate in the resale process. Therefore, exhibitors must remove all rabbits from the show

    barn at the conclusion of the livestock show sale. Any rabbits remaining in the cages the morning after thecompletion of the show will result in the exhibitor being fined $50.00.

    BREEDING RABBITS1. All breeding rabbits must be recognized Commercial Type body profile breeds (meat breeds). They must meet

    weight and breed standards as outlined in the “Standard of Perfection” booklet published by the American RabbitBreeders Association (ARBA).

    2. Each exhibitor will be limited to one entry in each breeding class with a maximum of six entries in the breeder rabbitshow.

    3. Class changes or substitutions will not be allowed after the entry date.4. At the time of weigh-in, all rabbits will be sifted by the Sifting Judge as per current ARBA (American Rabbit Breeders

    Association) standards. The rules are listed in the ARBA Standards of Perfection booklet under “General Faults”,“Disqualifications from Competition”, and “Rabbit Breed Standards”. Any sifted breeder must be removed from thefacilities immediately.

    5. Grand Champion male and female breeding rabbits will receive an award and $30.00. Reserve Champion male andfemale will receive an award and $20.00. An award will be awarded to the best overall breeding rabbit of the Show. Premiums of $10.00 for first and $5.00 for second place will be awarded.

    6. Intermediate breeders shall be under 8 months age and adhere to ARBA breed weight standards. Validation datewill be set by board of directors.

    7. All breeder rabbits must be removed from the show barn at the conclusion of the livestock show sale. Any rabbitremaining in the cage the morning after the completion of the livestock show will result in the exhibitor being fined$50.00.

    PEE WEE RABBIT SHOW1. The Pee Wee Rabbit Show is open to Kleberg-Kenedy County youth ages 4-8 (who are ineligible to participate in 4-

    H or FFA because of age or grade level). All exhibitors should attend a supervised educational workshop and mustbe a member of 4H or Pre 4-H and/or FFA or Pre-FFA group.

    2. Rabbits will be New Zealand, Californian, or other ARBA approved Commercial Type body profile breeds (meatbreeds).

    3. The age limit of the rabbit is 10 weeks.4. Each exhibitor will be allowed to show only one rabbit.5. An award will be given to a Grand and Reserve Junior and Senior Showman. Junior ages are 4-5 years of age;

    Senior ages are 6-8 years of age. Each exhibitor will receive a blue ribbon.6. All rabbits will be released at the conclusion of the show.7. Exhibitors will be judged on showmanship skills and condition of project.

  • 8. The exhibitor will be placed in the appropriate age group based on the age of the exhibitor the day of the PeeWee Rabbit Show.

    STOCK HORSE FUTURITY1. All yearlings are to be born between January 1 and June 15th of the year prior to the show.2. All animals and exhibitors will be subject to screening by a committee.3. All exhibitors must be either a 4-H or Vocational Ag member.4. All animals must be in the possession of the exhibitor for 90 days prior to the show and will be the responsibility of

    the exhibitor to prepare for show.5. All yearlings will be judged on showmanship at halter, body condition through feeding and grooming for show.6. Exhibitors must be in complete control of their animal and only the exhibitor may handle their animal in the

    show/pen arena or be removed.7. The show will award $100 to the exhibitor of the Grand Champion Stock Horse and $50 to the exhibitor of the

    Reserve Champion Stock Horse if those horses were bred and originated from herds in Kleberg-Kenedy Counties. Breeders of the Grand and Reserve Champion Stock Horse will be awarded a plaque if those horses were bred andoriginated from herds in Kleberg or Kenedy Counties.

    BEEF CATTLE DIVISIONMARKET STEERS

    1. Each exhibitor can only enter one market steer.2. Steers will be divided into the following divisions:

    A. American Breeds and their crossesB. British Breeds

    These animals must exhibit physical characteristics of purebred Angus, Red Angus, Shorthorn, Hereford, orPolled Hereford.

    C. Exotic – All other breeds and their crosses3. There will be a minimum weight of 1000 pounds. Steers will be weighed one time only on the official show scale.

    Weight classes will be determined by division superintendent and assistants.4. All steers will be sifted and classified by a single classifying/sifting judge.

    - Steers will be classified by their predominate breed characteristics into one of the three divisions. If a steerclasses out of American or British division, they automatically roll down to Exotic division.

    - Steers will be sifted based on the following:Quality and health

    Hair - steers will be clipped to have no more than ¼ inch of hair on any part of the body except the tail at check-in. The tail switch may be ratted, balled, or bobbed off.

    - All steers must be dehorned, with the exception of secondary horn growth.- All steers must be shown at halter. The exhibitor must be able to control the animal.- The decision of the sifter/classifier is final and not subject to protest.

    5: Pumping steers with any substances is prohibited. Steers may be drenched after weigh in to maintain the health ofthe animal.

    6. No tie outs for beef cattle will be assigned. Exhibitors will be allowed to remove beef projects from the barn atexhibitor’s discretion, but must return to barn as soon as possible. Grooming will be allowed up to the time theanimal is called to the show ring. The exhibitor who is late for their class may not be allowed in the show ring. It isthe exhibitor’s responsibility to be on time for their class.

    7. No parent or handler will be allowed in the show arena during the steer show unless requested by show officials. Exhibitors and cattle must fully exit the show arena before a parent or handler can take control of the animal,including re-haltering or changing of halters.

    8. The show will award $100 to the exhibitor of the Grand Champion steer and $50.00 to the exhibitor of the ReserveChampion steer if those steers were bred and originated from herds in Kleberg-Kenedy Counties. Breeders of theGrand and Reserve Champion steer will be awarded a plaque if those steers were bred and originated from herds inKleberg and Kenedy Counties.

    BREEDING BEEF CATTLE1. Premiums of $50.00 for first place will be paid in the Heifer and Bull classes. The exhibitors of the Grand Champion

    Heifer and Bull will receive an award.2. All animals are to be validated as stated in the validation section.3. No more than two entries per exhibitor per class.

    If there are 3 or more head of a particular breed, those animals will show separately in their respectivedivision. Each of the breed champions will then compete for the division champion.

    6. All breeding beef animals must not be missing more than two middle temporary incisors. If a question of doubtexists on the age of the breeding animals, the sifting judge will tooth the animals to determine age. The decision ofthe sifting judge will be final.

    7. All females 24 months of age and older on the day of the show must be palpated "Safe-in-calf" at least 30 daysprevious to the show. A certificate from a veterinarian certifying that cow is "Safe-in-calf" and approximate term ofgestation on date of palpation, will be presented at check-in. Certificate is not needed if cow has calf 4-6 months oryounger at side.

    8. No animal will be allowed past the sifting judge without age and breed being verified.9. All breeding bulls must have a permanent bull ring in their nose. Heifers and bulls with horns must have them

    tipped, cleaned and smoothed. Exemption: longhorns due to being a characteristic of the breed.10. Bulls must not have exceeded their 24 month birth date. Heifers must not have exceeded their 30-month birth date.11. No parent or handler will be allowed in the show arena during the breeding beef show unless requested by show

    officials. Exhibitors and cattle must fully exit the show arena before a parent or handler can take control of theanimal, including re-haltering or changing of halters.

    12. For the safety of the exhibitors, the beef cattle superintendent along with the beef cattle committee will split largeclasses as they deem necessary.

  • HERDSMAN AWARDSHerdsman Awards – A five (5) person Herdsman Selection Committee shall be appointed by the President of the

    association each year to serve for the following year’s show and shall be made up of three (3) division superintendents orassistant superintendents and two (2) association members in good standing that are willing to serve on the committee. This committee shall have as many meetings as they deem necessary during the annual show to obtain enoughinformation as to the qualified recipient of each award. An award will be presented in Beef, Swine, Poultry, Lamb, Rabbit,Stock Horse, and Goat Divisions to the 4-H club or FFA Chapter and to the individual exhibitor that does the best job ofkeeping their project and area in the most showmanship fashion during the entire show. The Herdsman SelectionCommittee’s decision must be made and reported to the livestock show office by 10:00 p.m. on Friday.

    SHOWMANSHIP CONTESTThe purpose of this contest is to make showmanship an education activity and to emphasize to 4-H and FFA members

    the value of proper showmanship techniques.1. An award will be awarded to Grand Champion Showman and Reserve Champion Showman of the Junior,

    Intermediate, and senior exhibitors of each of the divisions of Beef, Swine, Rabbit, Lamb, Goat and Farm Shop. Allexhibitors will be judged on who does the best job showing his or her project.

    2. All exhibitors of Beef, Swine, Rabbit, Lamb, Goat and Farm Shop projects will be evaluated on their showmanshipabilities as exhibited during the judging of their project in their respective classes. All livestock exhibitors will berequired to wear numbers while exhibiting their project.

    3. Division superintendents, working with their committee members, will determine the method to select showmanshipcontestants within their respective divisions.

    4. A Junior, Intermediate and senior division will be established. The Junior division will consist of exhibitors 8-10years of age. The Intermediate division will consist of exhibitors 13 years of age and under. The senior division willconsist of exhibitors 19 years of age and under. Ages are as of September 1st.

    5. The judge for the showmanship contest will be one out-of county judge that is familiar with proper methods ofshowing livestock. The Farm Shop Judge will be one out-of-county judge that is familiar with proper presentation offarm shop exhibits.

    6. All exhibitors must exhibit their own project at all times in the showmanship contest, unless otherwise directed by thejudge during the contest.

    YOUTH HOMEMAKING DIVISIONDIVISION1. Rules and Regulations: All entries must comply with the general Rules and Regulations of KKJLS. Please refer to

    the General Section and Eligibility Section of Kleberg-Kenedy County Junior Livestock Show Rule Book, as well asthe Youth Homemaking Division rules. Failure to comply with the rules will result in disqualification of entry orentries. In addition, failure to comply with individual homemaking project section rules, will also result indisqualification of entry or entries, and said disqualifications may occur at any point from check in to pick up.

    2. Age Divisions: All age divisions are decided by exhibitor's age as of September 1st prior to the stock show. Age divisions are: Juniors (8-10) Intermediate (11-13) Senior (14-19)

    3. Sections or Categories: Cakes, Cookies, Candy, Yeast Breads, Sewing, Mixes Plus, Preserved Foods, QuickBreads, Photography, Recycled, Canvas Arts, Creative Arts, Industrial Arts, Decorative Arts, Sugar Free Desserts. Please refer to the Individual Section Rules to ensure your project is placed in the correct section or category

    4. Entry: All entries and fees will be processed online according to Entry Section. Exhibitor may enter as manycategories as he/she likes, but only one entry per category per exhibitor is allowed. Placing an entry in the wrongcategory is grounds for disqualification. Review category rules carefully! There will be NO switching of categories atANY TIME. There will be no refunds if an exhibitor decides to cancel an entry in any category. In order to becompetitive, all categories/sections must have at least three entries per age division, if there are fewer than threeentries, your entry will be placed in the next closest appropriate category or placed in a miscellaneous category.

    5. Entry Fee: See Entry Fee Schedule on page 5.6. Validation: Two validation dates (to be announced via KKJLS website) will be offered for Homemaking exhibitors. At

    this time, each project MUST have two copies (4x6 WHITE index cards) of recipes for their food projects,instructions for their sewing, canvas, creative, decorative, industrial or recycled projects, and/or instructions for theirphotography projects. Validation will take place at a central location to be determined and on two dates to bedetermined prior to the start of the stock show season. The date, location and times will be shown on ValidationSchedule published by Association. It is always a great idea to make a copy of your homemaking entry card tokeep on file. The two copies of the 4X6 white index cards should contain a title, materials or ingredients, andprocedure. Please use front and back of index cards and use as few index cards as possible. If more than onecard is used, please clip them with a paperclip and number the cards. Examples on Agrilife Extension website.

  • 7. Check in:Entries must be carried by the exhibitor to the JK Northway on Monday evening from 5:00pm to 8:30pm onthe Monday immediately prior to stock show. Entries must be the work of the exhibitor and constructed or madewithin 365 day of the end of the previous show. Entries must fit through a single doorway, be completely assembled,and carried by the exhibitor without the use of a dolly or assistance. Wheels are allowed on projects only if they arepart of the original design and permanently affixed to the project. No outside items such as Bar-B-Que pits, picnictables, outside furniture, bird baths, etc. are to be entered in Youth Homemaking. Those are covered under theFarm Shop Projects. All non-food and non-photography projects are required to turn in a portfolio at check in. Aportfolio is a single page containing only three pictures. Picture one is of the materials, picture two is a mid-pointphoto, and picture three is a photo of the final project. This is your chance to let the judges know how long it took todo your project, and/or describe any changes that might have not been listed on your original project index cards. Your face nor name can appear anywhere on the portfolio or project. Sewing projects must also attach a copy oftheir pattern. Please note: no parent or exhibitor will be allowed in the exhibiting area during check-in, judging ortabulating unless they are a Youth Homemaking superintendent, part of the Youth Homemaking committee, orappointed tabulator.

    8. Judging: Judging will take place on Tuesday beginning at 9:00am. Only the judges, section chairman, divisionsuperintendent, and tabulators will be allowed in the meeting room while judging takes place. Superintendents willmonitor all judging. All entries will be judged by two judges per category, per age division. Awards: Once all entriesare judged, entries will receive a Blue Award (90-100 points) or a Red Award (80-89 points). In addition, onedivision winner per category per age level will be chosen and awarded a rosette. Once Rosettes are chosen, thosewishing to be judged for Grand Champion are placed on a table, and five new judges are brought in to judge for theGrand and Reserve Champion. At this point, each entry has their previous two judging cards removed and filed foruse after judging. The entries are then given five new judging score cards. These score cards correspond with theentry. For example, a cake will be judged using "cake" scorecard, an industrial arts project with an "industrial arts"scorecard and so on. The five judges will independently judge using corresponding scorecards. Judges will thenturn in their score cards for each entry. After tabulation, an assistant will then enter all scores into a spread sheet,where scores will be averaged. In the event of a tie, there is a tie breaking system in place, utilizing a certain sectionof the scorecard. The entry with the highest average is our Grand Champion. The entry with the second highestaverage is the Reserve Grand Champion. The Grand and Reserve Grand Champion will sell in the "Auction Sale". The rosettes may sell in the Silent Sale during the stock show. Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion arerequired to sell. Rosettes that are allowed to sell at the Silent Sale are NOT considered as an entry that is sold atthe stock show "Auction Sale". Please refer to the general rules - exhibitors will only be able to sell one entry fromall entries at the stock show "Auction Sale".

    9. Viewing of entries:. Viewing of entries will begin at 6:00pm on Wednesday. Youth Homemaking Exhibit will beopen until 8:00pm on Wednesday, open 9:00am-7:00pm on Thursday, and open from 9:00am-3:00pm on Friday. Allitems will be removed by exhibitors on Friday from 3:00pm-5:00pm. All items must be picked up and disposed ofoff-site. Please note there is a $50 disposal fee for all items not picked up between 3-5pm.

    10. Silent Sale: Those entries receiving Rosettes will be responsible for reading their form attached to their rosette. This form will inform exhibitor of when they need to be available for pictures, what is expected for the silent sale, andwhen to be available for the silent sale. If an exhibitor chose at registration to participate in the silent sale, it isunderstood they will sell that item if they are chosen a rosette winner. In the event that a participant is chosen as arosette winner, and they chose at registration to NOT participate in the Silent Sale, an alternate may be chosen if thesuperintendent and her committee deem it qualified to sell; meaning it must be of quality to sell and have a scorecomparable to the rosette winner (not off by more than two points and must be a blue ribbon). In addition, a childreceiving multiple rosettes (they shall only sell one rosette at the silent sale), their categories may be filled by analternate, which is up to the discretion of the superintendent and provided that the next higher score is of quality tosell and within two points of the rosette winner and awarded a blue ribbon.

    11. Pick up: All entries MUST be picked up on Friday from 3:00pm-5:00pm. All entries must be disposed of off-site. DO NOT use stock show dumpsters to dispose of your items. Any entries found in stock show dumpsters will bedocumented and will not be allowed to show in the Youth Homemaking division the following year or will be fined a$50 disposal fee. Any items not picked up will be charged a $50 disposal fee.

    12. General project rules/information:a. Recipes become the property of KKJLS and may be used for publication. b. No items requiring refrigeration may be used. c. No non-edible embellishments may be used (no cake boards, napkins, doilies, lollipop sticks, paper cones,

    cupcake liners, etc). d. Project must be prepared, built, constructed, painted or photographed within ONE calendar year of the

    previous stock show. e. No alcohol may be used in ANY recipe. f. No mixes may be used in any projects other than Mixes Plus category. Mixes are defined as cake mix,

    pudding mix, icing mix, pancake mix, muffin mix, cookie mix, etc.g. No canned biscuits, canned crescents, pre-made cookie dough, pre-made pie crusts, phyllo dough, etc may

    be used in any recipes.

  • h. With the exception of preserved foods, all food items must be displayed in containers provided by the stockshow. Please make sure your recipes fit in the containers provided by KKJLS.

    INDIVIDUAL RULES FOR EACH HOMEMAKING CATEGORYCAKES1. Must be displayed as an entire item (whole…not cut) in adherence to the recipe.2. Judged on recipe, texture, flavor, color, appearance, etc.3. No mix of any kind.4. Must be displayed without cake board or any non-edible embellishments, in container provided.5. Containers provided may be: 10" round (bundt and layered); 13x9x2 (stay in pan); 13x9 (cake to be removed from

    pan or a ½ sized jelly roll pan, cupcake container (4)).

    MIXES PLUS1. Must be displayed as an entire item (whole…not cut) in adherence to the recipe.2. Judged on recipe, unique use of ingredients, flavor, appearance, texture, and color.3. May be a cake, cookies, bar, bread, sugar free, muffin, cupcake, etc.4. A mix is used as the base of the recipe with various ingredients to enhance the flavor and/or appearance. Mix is

    defined as cake mix, brownie mix, biscuit mix, cookie mix, etc. NO refrigerated biscuits, refrigerated cookie dough,frozen rolls, phyllo dough, etc. may be used.

    5. Must be displayed without cake board or any non-edible embellishments, in container provided.6. Container provided will vary with the type of recipe used. (see cake, bread, muffin, cookie, candy to see size of

    containers)

    PRESERVED FOODS1. Must be preserved within a calendar year of prior show, and might be jerky, salsa, jelly, jams, sauce, etc.2. Judged on flavor, texture, color, and adherence to recipe.3. MUST be displayed in a sealed canning jar or other vacuum sealed container provided by exhibitor.4. Two sealed jars or vacuum sealed containers MUST be provided. Both jars or containers MUST have a label with

    the date of canning clearly marked, as well as the type of food it is. Jars or containers with broken seals will not bejudged and will be disqualified.

    QUICK BREAD1. Must be displayed whole in adherence to the recipe.2. Judged on flavor, texture, crust and adherence to the recipe.3. May be loaf, muffins, rolls, or any bread that fits into a container provided by KKJLS.4. May not contain yeast, therefore no refrigerated biscuits, crescent rolls, or pre-made frozen dough of any kind may

    be a part of the recipe.5. Must be displayed in container provided by KKJLS.6. Container sizes for loaves will be a disposable loaf pan (app 1 ½ pound), muffins will be placed in a muffin container

    displaying four, biscuits/rolls will be displayed in plastic containers, and other containers may be provided if anunusual recipe presents itself, but that is up to the discretion of the superintendent and the Youth Homemakingcommittee.

    YEAST BREAD1. Must be displayed whole in adherence to the recipe.2. Judged on texture, flavor, color, crusting, and use of yeast in adherence to the recipe.3. No refrigerated biscuits, rolls or other premade dough may be used in this recipe.4. Must be displayed in the container provided by KKJLS.5. Container sizes for loaves will be a disposable loaf pan (app 1 ½ pound), muffins will be placed in a muffin container

    displaying four, biscuits/rolls will be displayed in plastic containers, and other containers may be provided if anunusual recipe presents itself, but that is up to the discretion of the superintendent and the Youth Homemakingcommittee.

    COOKIES AND CANDY1. Place as many cookies or pieces of candy as possible to make it look attractive. Must be at least six.2. No doilies, cardboard, napkins, sticks, paper cones, etc. are allowed in the container.3. Judged on texture, flavor, uniformity, color, and adherence to recipe.4. Must be displayed in container provided by the KKJLS. Containers available are approximately 6x4x4 rectangular,

    8X8 square, or container approved by the superintendent and committee (allows for changes in sizes of containersavailable for purchase).

    SEWING1. Items made exclusively on a sewing machine.2. For example: machine quilted, machine appliqued, combination, small wall hangings, clothing, doll accessories,

    baby clothing, blankets, pillows, pillow cases, pet apparel, etc.3. Judged on originality, quality of workmanship, color, harmony, degree of difficulty, etc.4. Entries must be on a hanger and enclosed in plastic to protect the project from damage.5. One page portfolio must be present.

    CREATIVE ARTS1. Projects are created from scratch, hand-stitched, hand-strung, or hand-made. For example: hand-stitched quilts,

    embroidery, cross-stitch, latch hook, macramé, crochet, beading (jewelry, necklaces, bracelets, earrings) or otherhand-made accessories.

    2. Judged on originality of design, harmony, color, quality of workmanship, and degree of difficulty. 3. One page portfolio must be present. 4. Entries must be placed in plastic to protect it from damage. Place on a hanger when appropriate5. Project must be carried by exhibitor and fit through a single doorway.

    DECORATIVE ARTS1. Projects that are made from existing items and simply embellished with paints, fabrics, ribbons, etc. For example:

    Floral arrangements, wreaths, decorative picture frames, painted step stools, etc. 2. Judged on originality of design, harmony, color, quality of workmanship, and degree of difficulty. 3. One page portfolio must be present. 4. Entries must be placed in plastic to protect it from damage. Place on a hanger when appropriate. 5. Entries must be able to be carried by exhibitor, in judging condition and completely assembled, fit through a single

    doorway. INDUSTRIAL ARTS1. Any project using power tools and machinery. Typically made of wood, metal, plastic or leather.2. Judged on originality of design, harmony, color, quality of workmanship, and degree of difficulty.3. Entries must be able to be carried by exhibitor, in judging condition and completely assembled, fit through a single

    doorway. No large outside items such as fire pits, swings, bar-b-que pits, picnic tables, outdoor furniture, etc will beallowed to be judged against other Youth Homemaking projects.

    4. One page portfolio must be present.

    RECYCLED ARTS1. Any project that is completely composed of recycled materials. All items must be recycled items. It could include old

    tires, small furniture, pallets, old paper goods, juice wrappers, etc. Only allowable purchased items can be: paints,glue, thread, etc.

    2. It must take on a new life. For example: an old end table could become a dog bed; feed sack could become anapron; old tire could become a stool.

    3. Entries must be able to be carried by exhibitor, in judging condition and completely assembled, fit through a singledoorway. No large outside items such as fire pits, swings, bar-b-que pits, picnic tables, outdoor furniture, etc will beallowed to be judged against other Youth Homemaking projects.

    4. One page portfolio must be present.

    PHOTOGRAPHY1. Photos may not be larger than 8X10 and must be vacuumed, dry or flush mounted with no mat, and placed in a

    plastic sheet protector.2. There are no restrictions on subject matter, other than restrictions listed in general rules: no alcohol, tobacco, etc.

    Photos must be in good taste. Exhibitors name or face may NOT appear in the photo or on the photo.3. Reminder: photo entries are required to have the same project instructions as all other homemaking projects. (i.e.

    title, brief description of when, where, and why photo was taken, what if any, special effects were used, etc.)4. The type of camera used is to be noted on the card.5. Judged on subject matter, composition, impact and technical merit.

  • CANVAS ARTS1. Artwork done exclusively on art paper or canvas and created by exhibitor.2. Mediums utilized may be crayon, ink, pencil, charcoal, watercolor, oil, pastels, etc.3. One page portfolio must be present.4. Artwork must be enclosed in plastic for protection, and if using paper, it must have a cardboard insert to protect it

    from damage.

    FARM SHOP DIVISION1. All farm shop exhibits are to be completed, painted, and dry prior to bring to the show. At the time of judging, all

    exhibits must be free of decorations and visual aids including but not limited to: Firewood, coolers, televisions,propane tanks, coverings. Power supplies for trailer lights and project operations shall be permitted.

    2. Exhibitors may enter one project in each of the EIGHT classes, but no exhibitor may enter more than one project in asingle class.

    3. All farm shop exhibits will be checked in to the show by each/all of the exhibitors for each project on Tuesdaybetween 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Exhibitors not present are deemed ineligible and shall be removed from the entryupon check in.

    4. Entries will be divided into Intermediate and senior sub-divisions.A. Intermediate exhibitors are defined as ages 8-13 as of September 1.B. Senior exhibitors are defined as ages 14 and up as of September 1.

    5. Entries will be categorized into the appropriate classes for judging.A. Trailer Class

    6. There will be a Champion and Reserve Champion in large metal division (Class A&G), small metal division (Class B-E), wood division (Class F) and tractor restoration (Class H). The judge will score and rank all projects in each of theeight classes in the intermediate division and each of the eight classes in the senior division. The judge will select afirst and second place project from each of the eight classes in the intermediate division and each of the eightclasses in the senior division. The Grand Champion of the show will be chosen from one of the division championsand will receive an award. The Reserve Grand Champion of the show will be chosen from one of the divisionchampions and will receive an award. All blue ribbon winners will receive a cash award of $30.00. The decision ofthe judges will be final in all cases, except where mistakes, fraud, misrepresentation, or collusion not discovered at

  • the time of the award is proved. In such case, the General Superintendent, or such referee as he may appoint, maymake decision, or the case may be referred to the Executive Committee, from whose decision there can be no

    appeal. The following scores will be used to award ribbons:

    7. Farm shop exhibits may be individually or group constructed by bona fide 4-H, FFA and/or FCCLA members. Ateam project will be limited to four members. All team member names must be submitted at time of entry. Anyproject constructed by a group consisting of one or more seniors, will be entered in the senior division.

    8. All exhibitors must be stationed by their farm shop project for questioning by the judge during the judging of theexhibits. The exhibitor must come back to answer questions by the judge if he/she is showing a project. There willbe no penalty for the exhibitor not answering questions if he/she is showing their animal. (Ex. Swine). Plans, photos,and bill of materials shall be displayed on the project in such a manner that no additional floor space is required.

    9. All exhibitors will use appropriate measures to ensure the safety of everyone. Precautions will include, but are notlimited to: Any project containing sharp edges and/or points will be padded.The Farm Shop superintendent and the Farm Shop committee will make the final decision on the safety precautionsneeded of each project. Safety devices will be removed during the judging only.

    10. The over-all Grand Champion and over-all Reserve Grand Champion will sell in the “Auction Sale”. Projectsconsisting of more than one team member will have sale price at auction divided among the number of membersexhibiting the farm shop project.
