A brief about Reduction In Force (RIF) Survey

❑ Annual Data collection for teacher dismissals or removals due to the board’s decision (IL School Code 105 ILCS 5/10-20.26)

❑ District level data collection

❑ Submission deadline: Oct. 15, 2020

❑ The RIF Survey data collection and rules are same from the previous years.

2020 RIF Survey

▪ IL School Code Section 10-20.26 on report of annual teacher dismissals.

▪ District level data on teacher dismissal, rehiring, and positions lost due to the board’s decision on reduction in force to decrease the number of teachers employed or to discontinue any type of teaching service.

▪ Report on both tenured and non-tenured teacher.

▪ Report on FTE (Full Time Equivalent) number.

▪ If district issued any non-renewal notification to any teacher during the spring, district needs to complete the survey.

▪ RIF does not include voluntary leaving such as retirement or moving to other district.

RIF Survey: Section A

▪ Indicate whether district issued any non-renewal notification to any teacher during the spring of 2020. If Yes, district needs to complete the survey (Section B).

• Report full-time equivalent (FTE) number in the five categories (questions) for both Non-Tenured and Tenured teaching positions.

▪ If any category is zero, enter 0.

▪ Allow up to 1 decimal place.

If entered more than 1 decimal,

error message pops up.

▪ Data description for each

Audit Check before submission

▪ The summation of numbers on Questions 2 through 5 (numbers of recalled, not rehired and positions lost) usually equals the number reported on Question 1 (number of dismissals).

▪ If the summation numbers do not match, error message pops up (examples below). Please correct the error by clicking “Cancel” button.

▪ Once you complete data entries, click on ‘Save & Submission’ button on the bottom.

▪ It requires district administrator’s approval for submission to ISBE.

Submission Status

• Upon a complete submission, the RIF survey status changed to “ISBE Received’ on the screen.
