LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

Humber College is located within the traditional and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit. Known as Adoobiigok, the “Place of the Alders” in Michi Saagiig language, the region is uniquely situated along Humber River Watershed, which historically provided an integral connection for Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat peoples between the Ontario Lakeshore and the Lake Simcoe/Georgian Bay regions. Now home to people of numerous nations, Adoobiigok continues to provide a vital source of interconnection for all.

Student CommitmentWe want you to know that we are committed to your success.

To limit the spread of COVID-19, we had to change how we delivered our courses and programs in 2020. We provided students with new technologies, virtual academic services and financial supports.

No matter what happens, here is our commitment to the incoming class of 2021–2022.

WE WILL:

Give you a great learning experience

Online or in-person, your courses will cover your program’s key learning outcomes. They will help you build on your knowledge and integrate your education into your professional and personal life. Your professors will design your courses with activities and tasks that inspire thinking and creative applied learning experiences.

All courses are designed using a common set of principles: simplicity, usability and accessibility. We will also ensure that you can easily find information about your courses and program.

Help keep you connected

You can expect opportunities for meaningful interactions with your professors, Humber staff and your classmates. Your professors will connect regularly with you, and in many programs you will work on collaborative projects with your peers. Our student success team is available to help you navigate our services and supports, or just to chat about how you are doing.

We will provide you with clear, transparent and timely communications through conversations, emails and our social media channels.

Foster an environment of wellness, kindness and inclusion

We know that every student at Humber has their own story to tell and their own set of unique circumstances. We will work to understand your needs and to connect you with the right supports.

We will continue to expect that all members of our community interact in respectful ways that support Humber’s commitment to equity and diversity.

Do our best to be flexible

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, we will all need to adjust and adapt. We know that in needing to adapt quickly and in trying out new approaches, we will likely make some mistakes. When that happens, we will acknowledge them, learn from them and work together to fix them.

We will continue to seek out your feedback and keep you informed of any impacts on your studies or our services.

Teaching and Learning During COVID-19Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Humber has focused on our mandate of providing rich, career-focused education that prepares graduates for success.

Quality learning experiences and exceptional supports are foundational to a Humber education, whether it is delivered online or in person.

Online course delivery at Humber is flexible and convenient, allowing students to reach their educational goals through a variety of faculty-crafted and inspired digital experiences.

The digital classroom:

• allows students to interact and collaborate with their peers,

• empowers students to contribute to class dialogue,

• encourages different methods of digital content creation,

• helps students develop their digital fluency skills,

• connects students to their professors and social networks outside of their class,

• enables a degree of self-paced learning, and

• allows students to participate in a meaningful educational experience that is meant to be active and engaging.

A variety of resources and supports, including humberonline.ca and a student learning kit, are available to guide and support students in their online courses.

At the time of this publication, Humber intends to deliver all programs in their regular format for the 2021–2022 academic year. As the COVID-19 pandemic evolves, we may need to alter our 2021–2022 plans to follow the guidance of public health agencies and keep our community safe. For regular updates on Humber’s response to COVID-19, please visit humber.ca/updates.

I knew they would know what I was going through. As Indigenous people we are very in tune with ourselves and our culture. Without that, we don’t have the same guidance and support. They knew exactly where I was coming from.”

@humberfscs and @humbercollege should hire me to tell people why they should choose Humber...It’s my home away from home. It’s my sanctuary. It saved me and in the process helped me to rediscover my authentic self.

Today marks the end of my varsity basketball career. Five years competing at this level has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. Through blood, sweat, tears, giving birth to my son, a broken nose, torn meniscus, multiple concussions, so many black eyes I couldn’t even keep track of, and a LOT of winning... I wouldn’t change a thing and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

So TODAY I didn’t walk away with a gold medal around my neck...instead I walked away with so much more: multiple championships, lifelong friendships, incredible memories, three post-secondary academic credentials, my son, my fiancé and my family.

This Hawk Momma is OFFICIALLY RETIRED!
