INTRODUCTION

PlanningOur dedicated planning department ensure that Kilsaran is fully compliant with relevant authorities. This includes waste, water and emissions permits and licences.

The majority of new, and extensions to existing aggregates extraction sites require Environmental Impact Assessments. Over the past twenty years alone Kilsaran has compiled and submitted over 30 Environmental Impact Statements in support of planning applications for quarrying. This is indicative of the Company’s commitment to planning legislative compliance.

LogisticsKilsaran owns and operates a vast network of vehicles in Ireland and the UK on a daily basis.

Our logistics team utilise satellite navigation systems to provide real time information to customers when required. Co-ordination between our production facilities within Kilsaran’s extensive network of locations ensures that resources can be deployed and continually adjusted to ensure optimum service and productivity for all of our sites.

Energy ManagementKilsaran were one of the first building products supply companies in Ireland to be certified under the International Standards Organisations Energy Management System, ISO 50001.

Our ISO 50001 Energy Team continually monitors and identifies areas where we can achieve greater efficiencies. Recent improvements include the modification and upgrading of the concrete curing chambers at a number of our manufacturing facilities. Improving the insulation in these curing chambers and switching from gasoil to natural gas not only saves energy but has also improved the quality of the products produced.

Haulage and delivery is a large part of our business and the system has proved successful in identifying energy saving opportunities, leading to a more efficient and sustainable operation.

We carry stocks of Portland cements and GGBS in all plants. This provides us with the flexibility to produce sulphate resisting concretes that can be used in aggressive chemical environments as an “off the shelf” product. All of our aggregates are produced to I.S. EN 12620 – Aggregates for Concrete, which are independently certified by the NSAI and continuously monitored to ensure compliance. All aggregates used in concrete production are within the limits set out for chemical contents and physical requirements. This means Kilsaran are in a position to produce concrete for all environments, including freeze-thaw, from all our concrete plants.

Kilsaran is able to supply a spectrum of concrete ranging from controlled low-strength material (CLSM) to high strength structural concrete. Our technical team are in daily contact with customers providing solutions such as accelerating/retarding concrete, slip-form technology, PQ Technology (high flexural strengths), water proofing technologies, fibre reinforced technology, high workability technology just to name but a few.

DurabilityUsing current national and site specific standards, Kilsaran compose mixes to meet required exposure classes. Durability is achieved by ensuring proper compaction of the concrete and the minimum cover to reinforcement is maintained.

SustainabilityConcrete is one of the most sustainable building materials in terms of both energy consumed during manufacture and its inherent properties in use.

FireConcrete provides the best fire resistance of any building material. It is a non-combustible material that does not emit toxic fumes, smoke or drip molten particles like other building materials.

Kilsaran have the most advanced concrete production plants and equipment along with a modern fleet of over 200 concrete trucks operating nationwide.

Our production capabilities are in the region of 2 million cubic meters of ready mix concrete per annum from 20 dedicated concrete plants around the country.

Moisture ingress through rain, flooding or condensation can also devastate a wooden structure.

MASONRY PRODUCTS

Kilsaran has 100+ years of aggregate in reserve throughout Ireland with an annual capacity in excess of 12 million tonnes.

Kilsaran’s capability is impressive not only in terms of its scale and

organisation but also in our capacity to deliver primary, secondary or

recycled aggregates to customers both domestic and commercial.

The aggregates produced are a combination of crushed rock, sand

and gravel. These are suitable constituents for use in ready mixed

concrete, masonry products, paving, mortar and blacktop as well

as a wide range of other products. They can be used in multiple

applications from civil engineering to domestic driveways.

All our quarries are third party accredited to I.S. EN13242 and are

certified to supply S.R.21 Annex E “Guidance for specifying aggregates

for unbound granular fill (Hardcore) for use under concrete floors

and footpath”. As part of this certification a full geological, chemical

and petrographic assessment is conducted by an independent

Geologist. This helps ensure that our customers have full confidence

in the products supplied.

Kilsaran also produce and supply high polished stone value (PSV)

aggregates to the road surfacing market which are third party

accredited I.S. EN13043.

Boasting the most modern fleet of road surfacing equipment in Ireland, the Road Surfacing and Contracting division offers unrivalled expertise in the supply and laying of superior quality bituminous road surfacing materials.

Assisting clients in achieving the most appropriate solution to their

needs is a source of pride to our team.

Our Customers include Civil Engineering contractors working on

road, motorway and airfield projects, local authorities and major

developers. We also work in conjunction with our clients and

consulting engineers to provide technical advice.

The Road Surfacing Team

The highly qualified road surfacing team all have backgrounds in

civil engineering and have a wealth of knowledge and experience

in road surfacing, pavement design, earthworks, drainage, traffic

management, road markings and all related areas.

Kilsarans manufacturing experience with contractors and material

providers (including in-house) enables us to consider the impact of

our projects, in terms of whole life of the products used throughout

the chain of custody.

With experience working on high profile projects where compliance

with the most up to date specifications are essential, we approach

our projects collaboratively with a view to ensuring that all stake

The Paving and Walling division of Kilsaran is operated from a world-class manufacturing and display facility. Our paving and walling products are used extensively in the commercial sector ranging from permeable driveways and residential paving projects to commercial landscaping solutions for extensive streetscapes, retail developments and social housing renovations with leading project planners, specifiers and architects. Serving both the Irish and UK markets, our paving plants have an

annual production capacity of in excess 2.5 million square metres.

Kilsaran supply Ceresit-Ceretherm External Wall Insulation systems by Henkel along with an extensive range of building mortars to construction professionals.

Research & DevelopmentInnovative, application-related research and development are key

features of Kilsaran’s business operations. Understanding the needs

and concerns of our professional users is a central factor in product

and system solution development. To fulfil these needs, Kilsaran

and Henkel strives to develop and implement new technologies

and to share these solutions across all business sectors.

Technical support and Project System Design are primarily carried

out by the Kilsaran technical team with the back-up from Henkel for

large scale projects on call when required.

Kilsaran offers construction industry specialists a comprehensive

range of External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems (ETICS)

for façade insulation on both new build and retrofit projects, with

the advantage of compatibility of all its components. Our Ceresit

Ceretherm systems significantly optimize the energy consumption

of the building, reduce noise and moisture penetration. Moreover,

with Ceresit VISAGE plasters and paints the façade becomes a main

design element of the building all fully compatible with Ceresit

ETICS systems.

Our systems are tailored to varied needs some feature additional

properties such as exceptionally quick installation or the highest

impact resistance. The exciting Visage range of wood, metal and

stone finishes affords architects the opportunity to develop façade

designs in contrasting effects and colours in a cost effective and

sustainable way.

Our Technical & Laboratory staff are highly experienced in the area of materials technology and come from civil engineering and chemistry backgrounds amongst others. This gives us the advantage of having a wide range of skills when dealing with quality and technical work.

Kilsaran’s Technical division operate a number of laboratories

where we continually develop, test and monitor the quality of our

own constituent materials and manufactured products. We have

and continue to invest heavily in our laboratories. Because of our

investment policy we have the most advanced testing equipment,

facilities and software in the country today. This includes a Gradex

3000 computerised sieve analysis machine, a bespoke Laboratory

Information Management Software system and a fully integrated

Compliance Management System.

Our materials testing laboratories were granted accreditation to

the international quality management standard I.S. EN ISO/IEC

17025 by the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB). Since this

accreditation the technical team have increased the scope through

additional accredited tests and laboratories.

Our team continually monitor all our laboratories, and each of

the accredited laboratories are independently audited each year.

Kilsaran currently hold the largest number of INAB accredited

laboratories in the country (scope 241T).
